Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, July 07, 2020

You know how your heart melts whenever a pup raises its eyebrows? That's no accident. While research on non-human animals has long suggested that facial expressions are involuntary, it turns out dogs may be different, and like humans, able to control their facial expressions to get what they want.

Well, my wife certainly.

He's got her wrapped around his paw and is most definitely using facial expressions to do so.

This is no different than drug dogs that alert because their handler doesn't like black people.

Stupid headline.

What's "harsh", exactly?

#4 | Posted by Angrydad at 2020-07-07 07:01 AM | Reply

My dog has especially espressive eyebrows and he communicates very effectively with me using his eyes and his eyebrows. When he wants something he just sits right in front of me string directly into my eyes. Most of the time I know what he wants because he operates almost like a clock. He knows exactly what time dinner is and when he is supposed to be taken out for a walk.

We've always had at least three dogs. The two big ones (70 & 80 lbs) have incredibly expressive eyebrows. How can I possibly turn them down for anything when they get 'the look' on their faces? LOL

The little guy (rescued off the street one bitterly cold night) comes in a room and sits and stares. A little more guess work is involved. The funniest thing he does is when my wife and I are eating. He'll sit, staring, but not directly at us. Sort of a "I wouldn't bother you, BUT if you happened to have a bite for me I'm right here ready to help."

I'm always amazed when people believe humans are the only conscious, thinking animal on this planet.

You know what the harsh truth is about good dogs? They die and leave a hole in your heart.

#10 Ain't that the truth! I just don't have it in me anymore to rescue/adopt and eventually have another one cross the bridge. Spent most of my adult life adopting large breed, difficult to adopt rescues.

We are a pretty arrogant species. That might be changing soon.

There are other way to look at it.

1st. It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

2nd. When your heart is broken it is broken open you have room for more love!

This is true. Regardless. The loss is tremendous.

2nd. When your heart is broken it is broken open you have room for more love!

This is also true. New love will fill your heart. Helping it heal.

It's still quite the rollercoaster.

The article explains it.

"the faces your dog makes are less about the food you have in your hand and more about getting you to do what it wants."

You'd have to be phenomenally pig-headed -- which of course Deplorables are -- to not think they can alert to get what they want too.

Because you don't know what you're talking about which is certainly not anything new.

geeesus, mother Mary and Joseph,

You've turned a pleasant thread about man's best friend and polluted it into a race issue.

We get a thread that was a nice deversion from the crud going on in the world and you choose to make it about race by making stuff up. ( Dogs will be dogs )

"you sound like one of those dummies"....who see race issues where there isn't one.

There's a word for people like that and people reading this will know what that is.

Have a Nice Day !

"In the first 9 months of 2011, dogs alerted (and police searched) 14,102 times, and drugs were found only 2,854 times"a false alert rate of 80%. Those results, they say, are surprisingly consistent " in 2010, the false alert rate was 74%." en.wikipedia.org

Snoofy that only discusses drugs not found. Data shows the dogs are so sensitive they hit on cars because the occupants recently smoked dope. They can smell a single seed From 15 feet away. And also just because they didn't find drugs, doesn't mean there wasn't drugs.

"Data shows the dogs are so sensitive they hit on cars because the occupants recently smoked dope."

Data also shows dogs can exhibit the behaviors their handlers want them to.

Just because it's no longer in the car means nothing to the dog. It still picks up the scent.

He's not making the dogs racist at all. What a fundamental misreading of what Snoofy's said. BTW, what he said is accurate and is backed up by the article this thread is based on. This is a good read/opinion piece on the subject:

www.washingtonpost.com

Or

"Among cases (Ferguson Police Department) in which a suspect was bitten by an attack dog and the suspect's race was recorded, what percentage were black?
A hundred per cent."
www.newyorker.com

Both should open some eyes and challenge some preconceived notions about Police dogs and their true effectiveness.

Think of how many dogs were killed to break this animal into a domestic stuffed animal? I'd make faces too if I was a slave animal. They waste food while people starve. They promote selfish anti-human behaviour. Ever heard someone say they love a dog more than people-sick.

#32 | Posted by Brennnn at 2020-07-07 11:49 PM | Reply

Dogs can smell fear www.sciencefocus.com Put two and two together. This goes along with Yav's linked New Yorker article in post #31. If the dog's owner or handler is afraid of black people, then the dog will be able to smell that its owner or handler is afraid while confronting a black person, and the dog might respond by attacking the black person.

Agreed.

After all, cats' Meows are an attempt to sound like a baby. They have learned over the last thousands of years that it gets our attention. They don't Meow at each other.

I'd be a little upset if dogs hadn't learned to communicate with us as well.

Everyone who has a dog knows the dog trains you a lot more than you train the dog.

Since you see racism in everything. I've got your new cause.

Time to go after "piano man" Billy Joel or maybe Elton John.

They play on something that has 52 white keys, but only 36 black keys.

Clearly, proving ( to you anyway ) that if you play the piano you're a racists.

Damnit man. Don't let them get away with this !!

Dogs manipulate you. Cats don't have to... they are of the Borg collective...your choices ARE what they want you to do... resistance is futile... etc etc etc. Cats take full credit for dogs drinking out of the toilet.

The name Snoofy causes him to alert, just like his handlers want.
He's even decided I'm Chinese, just like his handlers want.

According to 23 and Me, I am 1% from Macao. Maybe that's what he's smelling, just like those dogs that smell drugs but then there's no drugs 80% of the time.
