"We're very much going to put pressure on the governors and the schools to reopen," Trump said at a White House event Tuesday on school reopenings. "Open your schools in the fall," the president told attendees, who were seated close together despite the fact that very few were wearing masks.

Here in FL there's one of these from-on-high-orders from the Desantis regime.

Let's see what the parents have to say when August rolls around.

Here in FLORIDA:

"Local health officials can override the commissioner's directive if it is not safe to open schools, due to COVID-19, but Monday's announcement makes it clear that districts have to prepare to open their doors to all students in August."If locally they are not able to open, we will work with districts on the continuation of their Instructional Continuity Plan (ICP) or determining alternative options," she said in a follow-up email. www.tallahassee.com

The GOP is a Death Cult.

Victims of the virus have already trended down to age 50 and up.... apparently Trump wants it to go lower.

We're going to actually see truancy officers refuse to follow orders.

Ain't going to happen here.

This sort of nonsense is why Texas is flirting with Blue. Donald Trump seems bound and determined to push it all the way there by recommending that Texans gladly kill their children for his sake.

This is the sort of thing that makes me want to tear down a statue. Does Trump have one of himself somewhere? I'll be glad to piss on it before it falls.

Wonder what happened to that....

It went belly up with Betty DeVos.

Who, it should be mentioned, just got public funding of private schools. The goal? Most likely to try to destroy public schools by siphoning off money to fun private Jeebus H acadamies.

Demented Donnie can't wait to kill the children. His Florida minion Governor DeSantis wants to open them in the middle of a pandemic in a few weeks. These people are certifiable maniacs.

This is why many seniors are shying away from voting in November in Florida because of trump. They're dying off too.

#14 | Posted by jvel777 at 2020-07-08 03:42 AM | Reply

Lap Dog DeSantis wants Florida schools all opened up in August, here in Broward our Superintendent of Schools has already spoken out with a loud No! The whole idea is based on politics not science, the reason we are in this mess in the first place is that politicians like Trump and DeSantis don't listen to scientists they just follow politics and not very well at that. WE have steadily increasing cases of COVID19 and these a******s want to risk the health of students, teachers, bus drivers, etc. and then the kids will bring the virus home to Mom, Dad and Grandma. Trump and Desantis don't give a crap, they just want things to seem more normal in November. That is all this lunacy is about. I have a feeling that other large school districts are going to say no too.

DANNI...

Listened to an interview yesterday with the Broward Co. (Ft. Lauderdale) soop. Impressive guy, seems to be trying as best he can to get as many people on board by having them buy-in and help dictate the new directions for schools. That approach can be positive, as opposed to Bunker Boy's absurd "Let er rip!"

There aren't a whole helluva lot of folks who want to gamble with their kids lives.

The term psychopath was used by a Harvard psychiatrist to describe Trump last night, who pointed out that the man has already killed people. In other words, Trump was certified as a maniac.

Gosh. If only we had an example of what could happen if we don't coordinate our responses to the virus and open schools haphazardly.

If only we could read.

I've been amazed at the number of facebook posts I've been seeing from people demanding schools be reopened.

All citing evidence that children don't get it as often as adults and have less severe disease.

What concerns me is what the latter says about the former. We probably have no idea how prevalent the virus is in children because they're tested the least owing to the very high rates of asymptomatic or low grade disease.

Throwing all the kids back together in August/September may result in a much much MUCH higher rate of spread from household to household with asymptomatic/mild cases in children being a stealth (if you will...) spreading.

If I did have school age kids, I'd be damned if I gamble with their lives on the advice of trump!

But its fine for you.

I suspect that an unintended consequence of the pandemic will be the development of new and revolutionary ways of educating children in America in ways nobody could have predicted. Just as the traditional '9 to 5' office job is getting a complete make-over, expect the same for education.

what a f***in monster. Even if kids dont get the whole enchilada, the disease can produce long lasting damage and consequences for their health. Imagine living with scarred lungs for the majority of your life because a psychopath was in charge when you were a little kid.

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

In Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and many other countries, SCHOOLS ARE OPEN WITH NO PROBLEMS. The Dems think it would be bad for them politically if U.S. schools open before the November Election, but is important for the children & families. May cut off funding if not open!

------- is threatening to cut funding for not opening schools.

Just wanted to point that out.

BTW anyone who has ever had a child knows clearly that schools are virus factories. One kid gets sick and suddenly the sickness sweeps through the school and voila parents get sick.

The sickest I have ever been was when my 5 or 6 year old brought home a stomach bug. The bug went right through our family, knocking all of us off our feet for a couple of weeks, the kids mother was in the hospital for a week.

All that to say, that it is incredibly irresponsible to force children into this situation. Of course, this is from the scum bucket who is breaking our relationship with WHO in the middle of a pandemic. Again, I wonder what will happen when the WHO develops a vaccine.

Not to mention the potential for explosive growth over the autumn/early winter by this being spread around in schools and sent home with asymptomatic to mild disease carriers.

RECIPE FOR DISASTER: Week 14

- Pull out of the World Health Organization in the middle of an expanding pandemic
- Order the CDC to edit protocols to suit a president who's walked away from us and this pandemic
- Remove our government's primary expert on infectious diseases from now-seldom WH briefings
- Force schools to open schools with germ-magnet children back inside buildings where they can bring COVID in and spread it back to the general public. Threaten to withhold federal funds from school districts if they refuse.

Do the above as we enter flu season and continue to pretend we aren't in the middle of a pandemic.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Trump has been reduced to sacrificing the lives of children (((not the first time))). Throwing them into the lion's den, so to speak.

There's no doubt about his ulterior motives, even though there's not enough time left for an economic recovery to help him get re-elected.

I don't even care why or whose fault it is. True evil resides within this man!

The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) signaled Thursday that the agency won't bow to the wishes of a madman simply because he happens to be sitting in the Oval Office.

After both Donald Trump and White House coronavirus task force leader Mike Pence attacked the CDC guidelines for reopening schools on Wednesday, agency director Dr. Robert Redfield told ABC News Thursday morning the guidelines would not be changed.

"Our guidelines are our guidelines, but we are going to provide additional reference documents to aid basically communities in trying to open K-through-12s," Redfield said on Good Morning America. "It's not a revision of the guidelines; it's just to provide additional information to help schools be able to use the guidance we put forward."
