Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, July 09, 2020

The Supreme Court has unanimously rejected President Donald Trump's arguments that he is immune from efforts by a New York grand jury to demand his tax returns and other details about his finances. However, the justices divided on how much deference the courts should show to the president and they ordered further proceedings in lower courts, leaving it unclear when and if a local prosecutor in Manhattan will obtain the records.

What is tragic about this decision,
is that the right leaning SCOTUS are
leaving the door very open to Trump
getting re-elected. To what will
very shortly be proven beyond a doubt,
as, leaving the door open to a known
criminal, being reelected as POTUS
of the United States. Now the odds are
pretty well stacked against him (if you
believe all the polls), but, the fact
still remains, that a (soon to be known)
criminal, who has violated numerous U.S. Laws,
STILL has a chance to be reelected our leader.

THAT is a stain upon both America and
the Supreme Court.

Weather is nice a Mar-A-Lago. Trump could be outside playing golf, complaining about the landscapers. Melania could be in Manhattan shopping. Ivanka's friends would be talking to her. Manhattan prosecutors may have better luck. But the only way the voters will see any tax returns is if someone slips them over the transom at Rachael Maddow's office.

It's two rulings, one in favor of the Manhattan DA's Grand Jury subpoena and one in favor of Trump's defense against the House subpoenas.

Before we start celebrating, remember that documents that the Grand Jury gets are strictly confidential and as you note, the only way anyone gets to see this is if "someone slips them over the transom at Rachael Maddow's office." The penalties for that are severe, so that probably won't happen.

IMO the latter is much more important than the DA ruling so Trump's finances will remain in shadow.

The NY case is going back down to the lower courts for further litigation, with SCOTUS only having foreclosed the arguments that Trump has absolute immunity from criminal subpoenas or that there is a heightened standard to issue one to him.

Here is the problem i have. The case as to these issues wasn't even a close call, with only the two most absolute partisan hacks on the court siding with Trump. SCOTUS could have declined cert back in November since 7 of them sided 100% with the appeals court ruling. By granting cert, briefing the case through March, and not ruling on this until July without changing a single thing about the case, SCOTUS has effectively wasted 8 months of time that could have been used to further develop the case in the lower courts and get the parties closer to a final disposition.

This ruling itself is a loss for Trump, but everyone knew his arguments were garbage, and SCOTUS draining 8 months off the clock before the election in a case he is 100% going to lose in the end is absolutely a win for him.

#55 | Posted by JOE at 2020-07-09 02:35 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

Based on?

History and precedent.

Voter suppression
Voter role purges
Facebook
Russia
------- is the incumbent
Insecure voting process
Prior hacking of election databases
------- campaign sharing polling data with Russians
Nothing having been done to protect us from what happened in 2016

Keep in mind that was has been shared and/or leaked has been horrendous. That indicates that much more has not been shared/leaked AND/OR is not known by our government. Reaching a logical conclusion that our elections are, at best, highly susceptible to interference.

Another nugget, until 2004, exit polling for presidential voting was nearly 100% accurate in predicting the winner. Yet, in that year, it failed-likely due to voting fraud and/or manipulation of the voting tallies.

So, no, ------- will probably be reelected

#56 | Posted by truthhurts at 2020-07-09 02:35 PM | Reply

The House case is an even better outcome for Trump, IMO. There, SCOTUS effectively created a four-part test that they believe the lower courts did not adequately follow in declining to quash the House subpoena. But if you look at the elements of this new 4-part test and actually read the lower court rulings it is clear that they actually did take those measures into account albeit without using the precise words SCOTUS has now mandated.

These cases are being framed as losses for Trump. But if you walk in the room knowing he was always going to lose the cases in the first place, and understanding that in both instances he has managed to drain 8 months off the clock and is now given additional opportunities to stall, it's hard to imagine him coming out any better.

Of course he is not absolutely immune from subpoena. Of course NY can subpoena a third party for his information. But if they can't get it before November, and he gets elected again, what the ---- is anyone going to care that he cheated on his taxes or lies about his wealth or is beholden financially to Russia and Saudi Arabia?

Oh No, does this mean the left will still have to wait to see IRS form 32876, income received from Putin? Get over it folks and learn from 2016, get a decent candidate. Having one that his handlers won't let out of his basement won't help.

1st. We won't and should not "get over it".

"It" is our country and we should never forget. We have learned. 200,000 dead. You should be ashamed.

2nd. We have a much better candidate than you. Stable steady leadership is exactly what we need right now. And Biden is exactly that.

By far. And he doesn't even need to "leave the basement".

Yet.

And he is already kicking Trumpy's rumpy all over the mat.

We learned. We are continuing to learn.

You obviously didn't learn a thing from 2018.

Biden's calm, rational demeanor (reminiscent of a very popular Obama) is outpacing Trump's fits of juvenile rage, paranoia and sociopathic narcissism in the Court of Public Opinion.

How do you explain that?

He can't because his comments aren't intended to accurately reflect reality.

No, but he's referred to their ruling as another hoax.

Biden gave quite a well received speech yesterday after touring a factory in Pennsylvania. Of course, Trump attacked him later on Faux News because Biden was wearing a mask while he was on the factory floor talking with the employees.

I didn't expect an answer. I was just driving home a point. Fishpaw just open the door for me.

Having a calm demeanor when you're a touchy-feely presidential type of regular "Joe" with no financial ties to Ukraine is a virtue we all need to embrace. I especially like how calm he remains while caressing kids

"I especially like how calm he remains while caressing kids"

It's probably not a good idea to let people know you're into that kind of kinky stuff.

Jus' sayin'

The IRS has Trump's returns along with the rest of ours ...
The IRS has the clout to audit and penalize him and the rest of us if there is a problem.
If anyone demanded to publicize mine or your return, we would tell them to go $##t in their hat.
That's all in accord with the Treat everyone equal and the No one is above the law claims.
