Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, July 14, 2020

"The Trump administration has ordered hospitals to bypass the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and, beginning on Wednesday, send all coronavirus patient information to a central database in Washington--a move that has alarmed public health experts who fear the data will be distorted for political gain," the New York Times reports. "From now on, HHS, and not the CDC, will collect daily reports about the patients that each hospital is treating, how many beds and ventilators are available, and other information vital to tracking the pandemic."

The new instructions are contained in a little-noticed document posted this week on the Department of Health and Human Services' website, Sheryl Gay Stolberg reports. From now on, H.H.S., and not the C.D.C., will collect daily reports about the patients that each hospital is treating, how many beds and ventilators are available, and other information vital to tracking the pandemic.

Public health experts have long expressed concerns that the administration is politicizing science and undermining the disease control centers; four former C.D.C. directors, spanning both Republican and Democratic administrations, said as much in an opinion piece published Tuesday in The Washington Post. The data collection shift reinforced those fears.

"Centralizing control of all data under the umbrella of an inherently political apparatus is dangerous and breeds distrust," said Nicole Lurie, who served as assistant secretary for preparedness and response under former President Barack Obama. "It appears to cut off the ability of agencies like C.D.C. to do its basic job."

Of course "the data will be distorted for political gain." Why else would this administration break a vital reporting system in the middle of a pandemic?

The hospitals don't work for Trump or his administration. No Hospital should comply. In fact, no state or city should comply with Trump's demands for anything any more. Student required to be in class, physically present, in unsafe locations? Nope. This order? Nope.

Time to say enough and let him know where the real power lies. With the people.

The Trump regime doesn't have that authority and if they do governors need to demand the same info be sent to them and they need to send it to the CDC.

So, what's the angle here? To clearly start lowering the numbers of cases and deaths?

Well, before this, he was outright telling people to stop testing altogether. Guess he thought even that was enough. Now he's got to cook the numbers behind a curtain. I anticipate a miraculous drop in reported cases/deaths leading to November while anecdotally, more and more people will be showing symptoms and dying.

Congress, the House of the People, the Senate, both created and voted for the law, and the President signed the bill into law. The ACA is incredibly popular.

Anything to say on the subject of this thread, Boaz? Are you for Trump's dictate or are you against it?

#15 | Posted by YAV at 2020-07-14 06:09 PM | Reply

At this point, who do they think they are fooling?

Trump's disbelievers already know the truth. Even if the staunching of information shows that no one else dies, there are still more than 135,000 dead Americans out there.

Trump's faithful will eventually be confronted with someone in their orbit who dies or disappears of some 'unrelated' cause--gunshot, train wreck, extended vacation at Sarasota Springs, Rapture--and the explanations will become as ridiculous as those found in the Soviet Union or China...

Trump is asking governors to send National Guard to hospitals to 'oversee' data collection.

In a letter slated to go out this week, Trump will ask governors to "consider" sending the guard to hospitals to "help improve data collection." As the president of the American Hospital Association states, this "makes no sense." If the National Guard is going to take a more active role in handling the coronavirus pandemic, double-checking hospital data does not really seem like the best use of their skills and abilities.

If the whole idea isn't suspicious enough to begin with, this plan coincides with a new directive that would eliminate sending data to the CDC. Instead, data will be sent through state agencies and federal contractors to new central federal reporting from HHS.

Hospital officials ignored the idea because "it's silly." But not everyone let the idea slip so easily, one industry official called the discussion "an offhand threat," directed at hospitals White House coronavirus task force response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx.

#24 | Posted by eberly at 2020-07-14 07:25 PM | Reply

Both appear to be true.
Wanna bet which one we'll be like?

Interesting note from reading both - it was the undisciplined and rowdy junior high aged students that Israel thought were guilty of spreading disease. That doesn't sound good for the U.S.

Not addressed, but possible reasons?
Smaller air-conditioned classrooms in Israel.
Germany, there really wasn't any AC when I was there. The image of the German classroom shows a large room, no AC vents.
Another difference:
Israel, students shown with absolutely no social distancing.
Germany, the students line up outside were 2 meters apart.
This might go with "rowdy" behavior reported in Israel.

Good contrast, Rsty. I think it clearly says one thing: We have no idea how forcing kids and teachers back to in-person instruction without PPE, dividers, temp checks, etc. is unwise and potentially deadly.

"People" didn't like the name.

But when they were asked about the specifics of Obamacare, they liked it.

Which is why Pres Trump and a Republican majority in Congress was not able to repeal Obamacare during the first two years of the Trump presidency.

Little things like, e.g., the way Obamacare treated pre-existing conditions were quite popular.

Be careful, this could be the plan all along. If the states and hospitals stop providing the information, it will just be ignored and not included in what will then be reported as being the current situation. Without that info, the numbers will look better, which is what the White House wants in the first place.

Trump isn't sane. (Call me Captain Obvious)

112 days out and the only thing he's doing about a deadly disease ravaging the country is trying to fool the public.

At this late date it's just another Hail Mary.

You see, Trump's insanity doesn't allow him to see anything but an attack on him personally, therefore the CDC must be lying. (They'll make a convenient scapegoat, too, when Trump loses the election.)

The CDC might also get sued, using HHS reports showing Coronavirus miraculously went "POOF" and all those thousands of deaths in the U.S. were normal from other causes. (Oh, to be a fly on the wall in THAT courtroom LOL)

Oh, and coincidently, Rudy Giuliani, Trump's TV attorney, is back in town.

We do our nightly update of covidexitstrategy.org and data for ICU is now unavailable from @CDCgov.

A critical indicator is missing.

With @HHSGov as the only source, they need to aggregate this data and make it public.

The public needs an aggregate view of the data being collected by "HHS Protect Now".

This appears to be the new system used by the WH Task Force to coordinate the COVID response.

With daily briefings over, the public needs it more than ever.

My hope is that a bug or another issue is causing the modules/data not to be updated.

"The "people" didnt want Obamacare"

So wrong, on so many levels:

1. When polled, eight of the nine provisions always polled favorably.
2. The only aspect which didn't poll well was the mandate.
3. Once the spectre of killing O'Care became a reality, its approval rate jumped upward.
4. Since then, it's always polled favorably.
5. Most of the disfavor was from a coordinated effort of disinformation.

Let's not forget: At one point among Republicans, Obamacare had only 16% approval. Meanwhile, The Affordable Care Act had 32% approval among the same group.

Coronavirus data has already disappeared after Trump administration shifted control from CDC

When reached for comment Thursday by CNBC, HHS spokesman Michael Caputo said in a statement that the CDC was directed to make the data available again. In the future, he said, HHS will provide "more powerful insights."

"Yes, HHS is committed to being transparent with the American public about the information it is collecting on the coronavirus," he said. "Therefore, HHS has directed CDC to re-establish the coronavirus dashboards it withdrew from the public on Wednesday."

Representatives of the CDC did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment. Later in the day, the CDC restored the site's previous dashboards with data through Tuesday, saying: "This file will not be updated after July 14, 2020 and includes data from April 1 to July 14."
