Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

In an interview with CBS News's Catherine Herridge on Tuesday, President Trump waved away concern about the rate at which black people die at the hands of police with a comment that amounted to white lives matter, too. "You said George Floyd's death was a terrible thing," Herridge said. "Why are black people still dying at the hands of law enforcement in this country?" "So are white people," (Trump) said. "So are white people. What a terrible question to ask. So are white people. More white people, by the way," he added. "More white people."

The fundamental premise of the Black Lives Matter movement, agree with it or not, is straightforward: Too many black Americans die at the hands of police each year, a function of racism embedded in the system of law enforcement in this country. There's no claim of primacy; it's not the case that protesters with the movement demand that black Americans get exceptional treatment when confronted by law enforcement. Instead, it demands that they not be treated exceptionally, that being black not correlate with a higher risk of death when being detained.

Instead, (Trump) decided to imply that being attentive to the deaths of blacks at the hands of police meant focusing attention away from white suspects who are killed. It was a pure distillation of one of the most common responses to the Black Lives Matter movement, an insistence that addressing problems faced disproportionately by one group is somehow unfair to other groups.

I know that I can't be the only person hoping for Trump's defeat to wake up nearly everyday to yet another example of why it appears he's doing everything possible to make his own demise a lead-pipe certainty.

Normally politicians see massive trends in shifting public opinion like a surfer sees a set of huge breakers - they both see a wave that can carry them forward, in anticipation of an invigorating ride. Trump not only ignores waves, he actively stands before them and takes on the deluge as though doing so is somehow going to turn the tide back into his favor.

Guess we'll see in November.

ABC News called him out as a liar. His comments were entirely a lie.

I don't think this is a political strategy that will work on the left.

Is it really racist to respond to a question about black victims by citing white victims?
Who really knows?
Can anything really be done? Probably not. We should probably just live with it anyway

I'm going to reserve my opinion until I hear from some racists before declaring all this is not racist

"the only one's victimizing poor whites,
are richer whites...
"

The southern politician preaches to the poor white man--
"You got more than the blacks, don't complain!
You're better than them, you been born with white skin, " he explains.
And the Negro's name
Is used, it is plain
For the politician's gain
As he rises to fame
And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game

The deputy sheriffs, the soldiers, the governors get paid--
And the marshals and cops get the same
But the poor white man's used in the hands of them all like a tool
He's taught in his school
From the start by the rule
That the laws are with him
To protect his white skin
To keep up his hate
So he never thinks straight
'Bout the shape that he's in
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game"

Some people fail to realize that being killed by the government you pay taxes to is different than being killed by a common criminal!

Donald Trump has never hidden his disdain for black and brown Americans.

It's what attracts most for his voters to him.

You know what would reduce "black on black" murders?

More job opportunities with better pay in local communities.

Fishpaw, the whitest guy in the room, is here to tell us all the good Trump has done for those ungrateful Africans.

By the way. You can always spot a racist by their use of terms such as "African" Americans.

I've never read fishpaw refer to White Americans as, "European" Americans.

That's because he wants black people to know, no matter how many generations their family has lived in America. They're not truly Americans. But a second class of Americans, who are actually Africans.

Hey! that's a good one CLOWNSHACK...I wish I could've thought of that one.....

I think we should call white folks "EA's" fo European Americans.....this way

everybody has a hyphenated name.......

I'm okay with calling everyone Americans.

But yes. I think perhaps white people would start to get it if they were constantly being called "European Americans."

#19 | Posted by ClownShack at 2020-07-15 02:40 PM | Reply

Look even the name "America" is not native to this country, it comes from Flronce, Italy

it's named after the great Italian explorer /navigator. Amerigo Vespucci. "America" has always been a common name in hispanic culture.....besides that, we grabbed the name America
all to ourselves.........this whole continent is America, not just the USA.
I think that calling the USA The United States of European America "USEA" Would be more appropriate....on't you???

I've heard Canadians referring to America simply as, "the States."

And Mexican, South and Central Americans call the USA, "Estados Unidos."

Leaders in the black community are calling on the New York Police Department to bring back the plainclothes Anti-Crime Unit that was eliminated last month as shootings and murders spike across the city.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, one of the African-American voices calling for action on gun violence, criticized the police force's decision to completely disband the unit. He deplored the recent deadly shooting of a one-year-old, one of the victims of New York City's recent spike in gun violence.

"I think that a total elimination is something we need to reevaluate," Adams said, CBS New York reported. "Right now, bad guys are saying if you don't see a blue and white you can do whatever you want."

Tony Herbert, an activist in New York's black community, agreed and lamented the rise in violence, criticizing New York officials for their failure to address the situation.

It's only been a month and they're already calling for a reversal of this policy?

Twice the number of whites shot by police as AA's, but with 10x more whites.

Math isn't Trump's strong suit.

White victimhodod? Libs think every white person is rich and never gets any hate or anything in their lives, and a red carpet is rolled out whenever they step one foot outside of their home. So of course they won't understand.

I agree, part of what matters is living, and black Americans have had too little consideration as to their longevity, let alone integrating wealthier communities. Poverty often introduces violence as a means of survival. Thus gangs are often kids attempted to steal for their group survival, it's about opportunities never provided and this is a moment that can change for the better. Black Live Matter is considering the oppression by authority that creates prisoners, who in turn cycle through systems of survival. This isn't going to stop without addressing the poverty issue, housing, education, business opportunity, serious overhaul of infrastructure aside, money must be carefully allocated and the police departments are not using the funds to the betterment of the often poorer neighborhoods. Fighting crime means fighting poverty. BLM addresses how defunding and redistributing most effectively creates a healthier society.

Does Trump have that in mind? He has done what for blacks? Jobs? Investments? A "signed" stimulus check that is supposed to last over four months? What was terrible about that question? Would half a question result in half an answer? If we just stopped all questioning we..:]

Remember that young man who said "George Bush doesn't care about black people" after Katrina wrecked the Gulf Coast? I wonder what he's doing today now that a virus is disproportionately impacting the black community and a racist President is deflecting from police disproportionately killing black men.

At this rate, Trump's supporters among African Americans will soon dwindle to Clarence "Chatty" Tomas, Sleepy Ben Carson, Herman "666" Cain and "Uncle Tim" Scott. By election day two of these four may be gone from the ranks...
