Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, July 15, 2020

July is starting to feel more like March. Businesses are closing. Hospitals are filling. Test results are taking days to process. And officials are warning that the worst may still lie ahead. California and Texas each set daily records on Tuesday with more than 10,000 new cases. More than 130 people died in Florida and in Texas, the worst day yet for each of those states. Nationally, more than 65,000 cases were announced, the second-highest daily total.

The outlook is bleak, and compared to March, when the Northeast was the center of the outbreak, surges have spread across more of the country. The mayor of Wichita, Kan., warned that hospitals could overflow within weeks. Missouri added more than 1,000 cases in a day for the first time. In Kentucky, where cases are rising and masks are now required, the governor said residents' actions in the coming days would determine whether "we go the route of Arizona," which has reported the country's highest per capita growth over the last two weeks.
With the handwriting all over the wall, it's a shame our sitting President still refuses to read.

Just as soon as trump and his governors send in the National Guard to secure the hospital data covid will be cured in Florida and other freedoms makes me stupid states

They will then lamely rebrand it the Chinasorosclintonobama cootie's, claim it's caused by gods anger in "those people" electing Obama, with everyone else being "immune" by herd loyalty
When the deaths do occur, the rationale will be the victims secretly liked Obama more than trump, thus were deserving of death by organ failure. This assertion will be validated by claiming on Fox News that no dead person with CSCO cooties has come forward to deny liking Obama more than trump

Case closed. Just live with it. Loyalty is our only vaccine

It's shaping up to boaz's apocalyptic fever fantasy come true

I'm guessing Utah will be the first state where it becomes standard practice for police to issue one warning a week to anybody caught not wearing a mask in public.

Yesterday:

Germany had about 450 new COVID cases diagnosed yesterday.

Florida alone had over 10,000, which is more new cases than entire European Union reported yesterday.

I agree with you. But answer me this, why are there still Republican governors who refuse to allow local governments to demand and enforce that masks must be worn in public as a matter of preventing their own citizens from further spreading the disease?

Covid was never political, it is a virus and spreads whenever and wherever it can find new hosts. The spread of infection is a mathematical certainty, not a partisan opportunity to harm any party or politician. The only goal of public officials should be to use all their power to limit the spread of the virus because of the costs of responding to it are far greater than stopping it through mitigation efforts.

If the top leader of this nation viewed the virus as the enemy instead of blaming those trying to stop its spread from doing so only to harm his political prospects, many believe that universal mask wearing would have never become an issue of anything but for being the most responsible way of keeping every individual and all of society as safe as possible when navigating public spaces while a pandemic works its way through global societies.

That's the $64 Thousand Dollar Question. It makes no sense, except maybe that Trump has weaponized every means at his disposal and, at least for the moment, fear of reprisal resonates the loudest.

Because if they listen to scientists instead of relying on God to protect them then that somehow disqualifies their belief system. It's either that or they are obstanate children in adult bodies and don't want to obey.

No big deal. This was already known to anyone who isn't a close-minded partisan hater. This was all inevitable. It's a novel pandemic. The people who actually thought that any type of PPE or anything else can contain it are people who just want to point a finger and not actually understand what a novel pandemic is. We could have forced everyone to stay inside for months and these numbers would still show up after we stop staying inside. They are going to happen whether it's a slow burn or fast burn. To those with a brain, the numbers of infected don't matter and are inevitable. The biggest crisis that turns this into a huge problem is that there are enough beds and care workers to help every person. That's where the slow burn helps. But make no mistake, these numbers are going to happen regardless.

All because some morons think their 'personal freedom' is more important than not spreading COVID-19.

Do they have to wear a seat belt? Can they light up a cigarette inside buildings? Can they eat inside at a restaurant with no shirt or shoes? Would they tolerate others sitting next to them? I think not.

Fcck all of 'em. They're why we're where we are. And the President who sets a piss poor example and has failed us and won't muster a national response worthy of this national pandemic.

We have police that will choke you out for selling loose cigarettes.

All we had to do was get the police to choke you out for not wearing a mask, and this pandemic would be under control.

That's all we had to do.

AU @ #26

"And the President who sets a piss poor example and has failed us and won't muster a national response worthy of this national pandemic."

Perhaps the most simplistic answer is the best answer.

The president won't try to save the country at the same time he's on a purposeful mission to destroy it.

The silver lining is, as Trump's political influence declines in the polls, the more courage state governors(R) find within themselves to defy Trump and follow the CDC guidelines.

Hopefully that number will increase dramatically once Trump has been defeated in November and Joe Biden provides the country a National Plan.

Right now all we have is Trump playing political ping-pong with our lives.

W beat Nixon's low approval ratings.

Trump has overtaken Joe McCarthy as a man who'll be the most scorned man in modern American history.

I wouldn't be surprising if people give a thumbs up as they pass by his coffin when he's laying in state in the Capitol rotunda one day.

PS - TWINPAC

Republicans have long sought to run up such massive debt they can start dismantling social safety nets.

"Starve The Beast" is a real effort on their part, and has been for decades. That's why they only care about debt and deficits when they don't hold the WH. What they're really doing is running it up as high as they possibly can.

"Ronald Reagan proved deficits don't matter" - Dick Cheney during W's 2 terms.

If you think about it, this pandemic has provided them the perfect opportunity to ensure the economy sputters, tax receipts don't match expenditures, and one day - sooner now than later - they can go after SS and everything else.

Yes, I already knew 'Starve the Beast' was part of it. And entitlements would be the first to go if they're allowed to be successful.

They're so many facets guiding the destruction of democracy it's impossible to define any one thing. All we can do is attack them as they come and hope quantity and quality prevails in November.

I know you and I are doing our part to support the only means at our disposal to pull the emergency brake in November. But it takes more than our voices and our vote. Everybody who can should contribute whatever they can to Joe Biden's campaign, no matter how small the amount. We are legions and it mounts up.

I beg everybody on this site to pony up whatever they can afford. The enemy who wants to destroy us is coming from within. They must be stopped and we, collectively, are the vanguard.

I want to give credit because I believe someone has posted this on another thread but I can't recall.

Anyway, Mary Trump has pretty much dropped the mic as it regards her uncle's response to the pandemic and virtually everything else that crosses his plate. She states that her family's sociopathy coming from Fred is that no one should ever admit being wrong or making a mistake because to reverse course is the ultimate sign of weakness. IOW perception of strength is more important than reality, and Trump can never take responsibility for anything negative that happens because nothing negative is ever his fault, it's always someone else's.

So once Donald decided to do nothing substantive about leading a federal response to covid, our fate was effectively sealed. He is never going to accept reality and he'll continue to try and bend circumstances to his own needs and desires. And we're all seeing and watching how the virus is reacting toward the 300 million plus hosts not being remotely protected in any adequate way as it races across and through America because we have no borders or barriers at each state's line to stop it.

If the people of America want to see a coordinated nationally-led effort to slow the spread of this virus then all due pressure must be brought to bear upon the entire Republican establishment, focusing on their unconscionable and deadly enabling of Trump's denialism. Public outcry needs to bypass Donald and go directly to Mitch, Kevin, and every single nationally elected Republican - holding them personally responsible for every infection and every death moving forward due to their own refusal to do what the nation already understands must be done to protect and preserve American lives and the public's health.
