Making the election a referendum on Trump is the essence of Biden's candidacy and campaign.

Your myopic view of this election will doom it Snoofy. You will have to have a platform that will get out the vote. So far all you've got is your opponent is very bad isn't going to cut it.

LauraMohr, nothing would get you to vote for Biden, just like nothing would get you to vote for Clinton.

So you saying something ain't gonna cut it is meaningless.

You just like to hear yourself complain about how powerless you are.

It's not my myopic view.
It's the Democrat strategy.
Take all the issues off the table and just focus on one thing:
Do you want more Trump, or not?

Apparently you'd rather have more Trump. Same as you were four years ago.

Hey, at least your consistent, with that head up your a-- thing.

Your myopic view of this election will doom it like 2016, Laura.

The platform isn't going to please everyone. The DNC has to worry about picking up middle voters to get elected.

But go ahead and vote third party again because the DNC isn't giving you everything you want.

And when Trump gets re-elected and the RNC completely destroys what you want, then you can just keep complaining about it.

This is a loss for all Americans.

But. I heard our tax dollars were needed to subsidize some wealthy corporations and the military industrial complex needs the rest.

Almost 20% of the nonelderly population in [America] lacks health insurance at any given time, and the disparities in access to care and health outcomes are very much greater in the United States than anywhere else from which there are reasonable data.

It is not as though these disparities are saving us any money: by any measure, we spend substantially more on health care than any other nation. Indeed, we spend more money on health care for Americans aged 65 years and older than is spent for the entire population of any other nation.

Nope. It's mostly going to please the top 10% donors of their donors.

The DNC has to worry about picking up middle voters to get elected.

Interestingly enough, that's not a concern of the GOP.

They focus on pleasing the extreme right wing fringe.

The GOP panders to the far right, the DNC panders to the right of center.

The left gets ignored.

It's the American way, apparently.

Snoofy, first thing demorats need is a viable candidate. China Joe has as much or more baggage than the wicked witch did. China Joe is obviously in the middle stages of dementia, and could never pass a cognitive test like Trump did. So first you need a candidate that can string 2 sentences together, Joe cannot do that.

Next the demorats need a platform, running on "we hate Trump and you should too" is not going to make. neither is defunding the police, or sucking up to terrorist organizations like BLM. Demorats like Pelosi, Schumer, Clyborn, Schiff, Nadler, and others have pretty much blown out all the middle of the road voters out of the party. the vast majority of voters are middle of the road and demorats are far left. I doubt there is enough time to get them back, so get ready for four more years of prosperity.

Biden's plan is to improve Obamacare with a public option at significantly reduced rates/free for the poor likely through Medicare/Medicaid, which would be the backdoor M4A. Eventually businesses will offer their employees an opportunity to go on the exchange and buy into Medicare as opposed to offering far more expensive private insurance alternatives. The benefit of doing it through Obamacare is that it has stood up to court challenges. With the makeup of today's SCOTUS, an M4A challenge would likely succeed, thus destroying M4A and Obamacare and putting us back to where we were in 2008. The Bernie folks have to understand that things happen in Washington incrementally. Their job is to elect Biden and then push him and the Dems left, not to remove themselves from the process by casting protest votes for Russian puppets.

NW.... this is not the time scare off moderates and let Trump win again, it's the time to get Trump out of office and then push the agenda left in the House and Senate, giving Biden the chance to show what he has, since Reagan, almost always shown with his Senate votes, that he's a Liberal

"Joe Biden's lifetime rating from the ACU was 12.67 which is not that much higher than Bernie Sanders lifetime rating (over 28 years of service in Congress) of 6.78. Both Biden and Sanders on any objective 1 to 100 scale using ACU's ratings which are calculated over dozens of votes each year would be classified as "liberal" though Sanders is slightly more liberal than Biden.

It should be noted Biden's ACU ratings averaged in the high 20's from 1973 to 1980 and promptly dipped into single digits once Ronald Reagan became President, where it stayed for the rest of his career."

By the time we get to the end of this covid pandemic the tab the government must pick up will be so astronomical that instituting some form of universal healthcare coverage won't be wishful thinking, it will be absolute common sense necessity. Our current healthcare system would be destroyed (and might still be crippled) already if not for the government stepping in with its promises to cover ever mounting covid costs for untold millions. And the probability of another germ getting lose and working its way through our shrinking interconnected global societies within our lifetimes is almost a certainty.

Biden doesn't have to lead any movement toward more progressive, inclusive social and economic policies because Mother Nature has already taken pole position and ain't nobody going to stop her but for herself as long as science and empirical evidence is taken seriously over ignorance and dogmatic beliefs unsupported by actual facts.

"some form of universal healthcare coverage won't be wishful thinking, it will be absolute common sense necessity."

Americans are unique in opposing this.
Universal health insurance was first implemented by Otto von Bismarck, who also hatched the idea of invading France for the sole purpose of unifying Germany.
That's why we call Otto von Bismarck an "arch-conservative."

When it comes to health care, Americans are to the right of a German Nationalist Arch-Conservative from 150 years ago.

Democrats aren't much better than Republicans... but Democrats do work to improve the grossly inefficient under-performing system we've got.
While Republicans just virtue-signal with vote after vote to repeal it... and then gut it with Executive orders, and challenge it in the Supreme Court, while offering no replacements.

Democrats on the party's platform committee rejected efforts to amend the document to show support for ... legalizing marijuana

Followed by;

The platform isn't going to please everyone. The DNC has to worry about picking up middle voters to get elected.

Meanwhile in the real world: "Nearly six-in-ten Americans (59%) favor legalizing marijuana for medical and recreational use, while another 32% say it should be legal for medical use only. Only 8% say it should not be legal." www.pewresearch.org

So how is rejecting legalizing marijuana aiming for the center? That 8% center who say it should be illegal? Or the 12% of Rep or lean Rep who think it should be illegal cause I'm sure the 12% of right leaning voters who still think it should be illegal were seriously considering Biden but that pesky marijuana thing was going to force them to vote Trump.

As if on cue for this particular discussion:

This is health care moonshot time': Pandemic pulls Biden, Dems further left

The coronavirus pandemic and the economic devastation it's unleashed are pushing Joe Biden and the Democratic Party further to the left on health care.... Biden keeps inching closer to the Bernie Sanders wing of the party without embracing "Medicare for All" by proposing to lower the eligibility age of the entitlement program from 65 to 60 and potentially extend government coverage to an additional 23 million people. He's also backing a robust government-run public health insurance option that would auto-enroll low-income people who lose their jobs and provide another choice for Americans covered under Obamacare or at their job.

Now, is THIS better than what Trump is offering, or are there no differences between the two's healthcare plans?

Only the foolish would start with half a loaf, then be offered another quarter loaf; yet then throw away what they already are assured of having because they can't immediately have the entire loaf (for which there's a much closer and better chance of getting if they take the 3/4 now, than if they would to go back to square one, restarting with no bread at all).

Because that's been delegated to the states.

Cop out when banking laws are set by the feds so legal business can't do normal banking. Cop out when due to federal law a federal justice department could still go after legal business. Change the schedule and then allow states to do what they want without fear of federal law trumping state law.

#47 and #50
71% of Americans support the idea of some form of universal coverage. World of difference.

Fair point and I hadn't seen that from Biden so that's awesome news. Also upon further reading the platform does mention universal coverage as a goal so honestly not sure why the medicare for all part is such a big deal. I'm not convinced M4A is the best option for universal coverage so actually happy to see it open ended on the platform maybe make that the above the fold headline not the rejecting of M4A.

I'm both ok and not ok with that. In this case Trump is bad enough that you really don't need another reason, but at the same time it would be nice to vote for something not just against something. Because Trumps demographic are reliable voters there needs to be excitement to ensure the democrats can get the needed turnout to dump Trump. Rescheduling MJ, UHC things like that will generate excitement, maybe that could be the October surprise.

""There is no more important issue than coming together " all of us " to defeat Donald Trump and to elect Joe Biden as our next president," he said on the call. "Now, I understand we do not agree with Joe Biden on all of the issues. Believe me, I know that. I ran against Joe Biden. But, at this moment, what we need to do is engage in coalition politics with the goal of defeating Trump.""

In other words, they don't care about catering to the actual voters. All they care about is beating Trump, so they will attack him every way they possible can with spin, lies, exaggerations, etc. The saddest part of all is for every report they can generate about how good MFA would be, they completely ignore all the research of why it would be bad. Both sides do this and it is the biggest issue we should be trying to fix. Neither side does anything to lessen the bad, they just ignore it.

So the jist is to expect nothing worse than Trump with a Biden presidency? I believe the obsession with maintaining a facade democracy will implode. Biden hasn't changed. He has shown that at every public event when he is confronted with legitimate policy questions then barks "go vote for someone else". He lies about his "legacy of fighting for civil rights", Tara Reade was literally raped by him in broad daylight and I also highly doubt Cornelius Pop was such a bad dude. He has instituted private for-profit prisons nationally, during his tenure with Obama had voted to cut social security several times, his authoritarian nature employs pro-violent police state tactics handling desert raves filled with teenagers, for crying out loud. Know Joe? He's "the man". Apparently the best the DNC can manufacture requires backtracking on marijuana and health care to eliminate progressive votes entirely, because he offers essentially nothing.
