DHS Acting Secretary Wolf's Statement on Oregon Agreeing to Cooperate in Quelling Portland Violence: Federal law enforcement officers will continue their mission -- Over the past 24 hours, Governor Brown and I have been in regular communication and have agreed to a joint plan to end the violent activity in Portland directed at federal properties and law enforcement officers. That plan includes a robust presence of Oregon State Police in downtown Portland. State and local law enforcement will begin securing properties and streets, especially those surrounding federal properties, that have been under nightly attack for the past two months. Oregon State Police will coordinate with Federal Protective Service (FPS) officers to ensure all federal facilities remain protected and secure. This plan is possible due to the valiant efforts of the DHS law enforcement officers protecting federal property in Portland from violent activity for the past two months. The Department will continue to maintain our current, augmented federal law enforcement personnel in Portland until we are assured that the Hatfield Federal Courthouse and other federal properties will no longer be attacked and that the seat of justice in Portland will remain secure. This has been our mission and objective since the violent, criminal activity began. The Department will continue to re-evaluate our security posture in Portland, and should circumstances on the ground significantly improve due to the influx of state and local law enforcement, we anticipate the ability to change our force posture, as we do everyday at our other 9,000 federal properties we protect across the country.

Fake news, they are rearranging the deck chairs so DHS will be the only ones provoking the "radical Leftists."

Listen to this --- clown actor DHS chief Chad "Heinrich" Wolf at the presser, the the two sides "have agreed to a joint plan to end the violent activity in Portland directed at federal properties and law enforcement officers."

That plan includes a robust presence of Oregon State Police in downtown Portland. State and local law enforcement will begin securing properties and streets, especially those surrounding federal properties, that have been under nightly attack for the past two months," Wolf said.

Not exactly a change of tone.

You should go down there and talk them. I am sure you can calm them down.

#4, actually DHS is still keeping it's troops and controlling the operation. It's a scapegoat job. Watch, it will be cops on steroids because they know they have federal support. Nothing on the streets will really change until the protesters go home.

More winning.I hope this ---- lasts past the elections. We need more unrest. It's what created this great nation, why are so many on the right so scared now?

Watering the tree of liberty is their bread and butter, until they don't agree with the grievances being protested. Then the protesters are criminals, not Patriots.

ODD.

Agreed, this is nothing more than lip service by the Feds, since DHS has ICE and CBP under its jurisdiction there is nothing to stop them from slapping new DHS badges on their uniforms and continuing their presence. Now the Oregon State Troopers will get to bust some heads with the imprimatur of Gov. Brown's authority.

Same shhhht, different day.

Then you at least see the depth of anger and frustration of the protesters.

That's a start.

It's gonna take something better than words that ring hollow and more violence to stop the violence.

I suggest before you go and try to tell them anything you listen to their grievances and then tell them how you will address their grievances.

They are addressing their government for redress if grievances.

Their government needs to listen to them and not attack them.

The feds have no intent on "listening." What state and local can really do is largely up to the feds and fed money as a separate component. The message is clear, use your state and local troops as hired thugs or we will do it for you... Just ask Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee et Al. They've decided this is the strategy they're going out with.

Anyone who thinks this is a win for Oregon isn't paying attention, it merely substitutes Oregon State Troopers (who are under numerous consent decrees for various abuses and have been criticized by Gov. Brown for refusing to wear masks on duty) for the Feds, who will end up only withdrawing a few troopers and rebadging the rest. Making matters worse, the State Troopers aren't confined to Federal Property and can roam downtown Portland without jurisdictional issues.

Now the same tactics can be used by Cheatolini in other cities that he dislikes.

Donner in case I haven't made it clear lately I'm horrified that we have what in affect are secret policemen kidnapping American citizens not even engaging in a crime off the street.

I basically feel like I am witnessing clashes between anarchists and fascists.

I am not fond of the "anarchists" but I can only criticize them while I hate the "fascists" with a passion that drove me to protest them just a few weeks ago.

I showed up my own damn sign which was conducive to the message of the masses if not exactly one of theirs and they were accepting of my weirdness my desire to stay 6 feet away from everybody and my leaving early.

"You hear all sorts of reports about us leaving. We're not leaving until they've secured their city. We told the governor, we told the mayor: "Secure your city." If they don't secure their city soon, we have no choice " we're going to have to go in and clean it out. We'll do it very easily. We're all prepared to do it.

So, in Portland, they either clean out their city and do the job and get rid of the anarchists and agitators, which is what they are. They're not protesters; they're anarchists and agitators. We have many in jail. Many of them have been put in jail. It's going to be a long sentence. They either clean out their city and do it right, or we're going to have to do it for them."

"Humpy Trumpy

You heard him. They can't leave until they clean OUT the city.

This leaves little option for Brown and Wheeler: now that Brown has capitulated and agreed to have her State Troopers move the protests away from Hatfield, she and Wheeler have no option but to crack down on the nighttime protests or let the Feds do it for them. Once Portlanders realize the import of what she has done they will be rightfully furious.

#26 | Posted by leftcoastlawyer at 2020-07-29 02:29 PM | Reply

With cops, troops, and troopers that are assigned an offensive directive as opposed to an allegedly defensive posture making the quiet part even louder... while pinning the blame on local rule. Thus amplifying the "out of control Leftists" narrative even more.

The more I think about it the more I fear this decision could literally tip the scale against democracy in the US.

That's not an exaggeration

Exactly, the OST can go on the offensive and if they fail, then the blame will squarely fall on Brown and Wheeler, rather than on the Feds for exacerbating the problem in the first place.

After 2 months of living in Portland during the riots.. I must say my life has not been affected at all.
All the chaos is around one city block downtown, 99.9% of Portland is buisness as usual.

So as long as its not in your backyard you are okay with that one block being chaotic?

As a Portlander you should be furious about what just happened, as Bocaink and I have noted this is just an engraved invitation for the Feds to shift their posture if the OST doesn't stop the vandalism on that one block.

Two things are likely to happen:

Oregon State Troopers are going to start clashing with the rioters, which will piss off Portlanders yet again about abusive practices by the OST or

Oregon State Troopers are going to let the rioters continue attacking Hatfield, and then Cheatolini and his lackey Barr are going to say "well, the city and state can't do anything about it, so we now will go on the offensive".

Either way, Portland loses.

That is exactly correct, and if the OST can't stop the attacks on the Hatfield Courthouse Trump and Barr are going to say "we told you so" and send troops onto the streets of Portland.

I agree, but as Bocaink and I have been pointing out, now that Brown has promised that the OST will take care of it with minimal concessions from DHS, if they fail then Trump and Barr will send troops into Portland...which will be even worse then them surrounding Hatfield.
