Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Politico Playbook: The United States Congress -- the legislature for the most powerful country on Planet Earth -- has been allowing lawmakers to come into the Capitol without being tested for the deadly coronavirus. People who work in the building -- legislative aides, chiefs of staff, press assistants, members of Congress, career workers and maintenance men and women -- are furious with an institution that does not have uniform rules or masking requirements, does not mandate testing and is run with minimal oversight.

WE GRANTED AIDES, LAWMAKERS and Capitol workers anonymity to discuss the climate of working in a building with few rules, and a gaggle of lawmakers who doubt scientists and hold themselves out as experts on everything from disease hygiene to pharmacology. THE PEOPLE WHO EMAILED US are not the kinds of people who typically reach out to reporters.

-- FROM A HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKER: "[Pelosi] is getting hammered by everyone. People are really really mad. ------- might be a better word ... [Gohmert] was in Judiciary, Natural Resources and on the floor. Doctor has told members who were near him yesterday to call for instructions, Members want masks made mandatory."

-- ONE SENIOR AIDE to a member who came in close contact with GOHMERT was told by the attending physician that they cannot get a test unless they are symptomatic.

-- FROM AN AIDE TO A REPUBLICAN MEMBER WHO HAD COVID: "I'm obviously not allowed to speak on behalf of anyone but it may be worth looking into how many Republican offices are also requiring all staff and interns to come in to work while taking no precautions. Ridiculing people for wearing masks is also not uncommon. I think you'd find a lot of offices in the anti-mask brigade are forcing staff to report to work even if they have legitimate concerns about their health. I'm sure you also [could] find some are having staff ... travel to districts in high risk areas and then not providing for quarantine afterwards.

"THERE IS A GENERAL FEAR that saying anything critical of the current office policy - or lack of policy - will lead to retaliation."

What a perfect illustration on why this nation has had zero comprehensive leadership from Washington on this pandemic ever since it began. Due to Trump's initial reaction, everything about coronavirus was immediately turned into a political issue instead of being dealt with as the only thing the virus ever has been - a life or death health issue requiring a unified, coordinated, response in order to minimize its effect on our society.

As it regards the Capitol staff and workforce, the irresponsible neglect in adequately protecting them the blame is wholly bipartisan. There is no longer any doubt of our elected leaders fecklessness in not properly protecting this nation when they can't even effectively protect their own house.

Gohmert would never have endangered others had Trump mandated masks but he didn't because Putin told him not to. Putin loves the chaos that the virus is creating in Trump's America, he is directly responsible for the 150,000 deaths so far into this Pandemic. He should not be allowed to escape to Russia when he loses the election.

Those interns sure are learning a lot about how government works!

If we know that some people with COVID-19 are asymptomatic.. why restrict testing to those who have symtems?

Its like watching an episode of punked... I keep waiting for government to say "just kidding" and actual do something.

"He should not be allowed to escape to Russia when he loses the election."

Trump is a man accustomed to pampered luxury. He's not going to leave the US. He's going to Florida.

It may well be a wasteland by then...

Matter of fact, maybe we should wait until 2021 and redo the census. Red states in particular are taking such a beating right now so we can expect an unforeseen population drop that will affect the next 10 years worth of well pretty much everything.

And people said Trump couldn't drain the swamp.

Meh. It's a pandemic. Numbers will happen regardless. We are a free country with people who value their freedom over everything else. This is the price we pay. Only way to stop it is to take away freedoms. I know Dems are chomping at the bit to do this in every way possible, but then that means they are not protecting America. They are changing America to something else. Thus...they want America as it is to fail because of their smugness thinking their opinions are the only ones that matter. Not saying it's a good or bad thing, just saying the fact that America today is not what Liberals want but then they whine like crybabies when people accuse them of trying to make America fail, because it's true and they want it to be something else. That something else could be very successful but that doesn't change the fact they want to make America something different.

The Constitution is not a suicide pact. You want to be the first society that dies from "freedom" (pandemics, guns, lack of health care).

What good is freedom when you're dead?
