Thanks for cleaning up the headline, RCade.

As you could tell, I was at a total loss for words trying to describe this amazing video.

It should be may be not maybe!

May be is a verb phrase maybe is an adverb

@#6 ... I love me some corporate pandering. ...

It's an advert, of course there will be corporate pandering.

However, what it says, and says most excellently, ~We are in this together. We can beat it together.~ is something I wish I'd heard from the Oval Office months ago.

For the most part I agree.

They seem to prefer "us against them" because of a lack of empathy. Because of that lack of empathy, they really can think about only themselves.

Whoops! Looks like you bonked your head on that tree limb riding on your high horse. You should be more careful, next time.

#13 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2020-07-31 04:16 PM | Reply

Yeah, put me on a high horse- that way you don't have to listen to me. Keep watching men give each other brain damage for fun (nfl). Watch the car drive in circles and tell yourself you are learning something. Watch the ball go up and down and tell yourself there is some complexity to it. Professional sports is all about hero worship, conflict, and advertising. Have fun with that!

#14 | Posted by Brennnn at 2020-07-31 04:45 PM | Reply

#14 | POSTED BY BRENNNN

Funny you mention that, because that's the exact reason I pay attention (and participate!) is because it's damn fun.

Hopefully, you get a kick out of pumping iron in the gym or running on a hamster wheel, but for some of us, we need a little fun in our exercise to really get the most out of it. For me, that's where sports comes in. I play football (flag), I play baseball and softball, I play volleyball, I go bowling (ever tried cardio-bowl?), and recently I started golfing. I watch all these sports as well because the people playing the sports I enjoy participating in are the best at their craft. I learn from their techniques and incorporate strategies with my teammates (you'd be surprised how complex a game of indoor volleyball can be when 12 people are on a 900 sq. ft. court).

I literally interpretted your original post as:

Fun is for children. Adults who have fun are dullards.
#10 | POSTED BY BRENNNN

So yeah, you are rightfully placed upon your high horse. Without the ridicule, you would have been labeled as a poster with an opinion. With the ridicule, you're nothing more than a poster pontificating from on high his horse.

Glad you and I were able to clear that up. You seemed a bit confused. Let me know if you need any further clarification. I'd be happy to oblige.

#22 | POSTED BY WILLOWBY

Why?

#23 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2020-07-31 10:58 PM | Reply

Because soccer is more boring than curling. A soccer guy gets touched, it's attempted murder. In a real sport like Hockey, a guy gets a puck to the face, After 20 stitches he's like "I'm good coach."

#24 | Posted by willowby at 2020-07-31 11:19 PM | Reply | Funny: 1

The only thing a soccer ball is good for, is as a companion in a fictional movie. They should all be deflated and the participants guided into real sports. If they can't do a real sport, keep some of the soccer leagues so their feelings won't be hurt.

It sure as Hell isn't soccer. For the most part, a bunch of smelly Euros in shorts.

Hockey for one. Any of the big four are better than soccer, plus NASCAR, motocross/super cross, golf, bowling, tiddly winks.

Have you ever noticed that soccer-haters always fit a very specific profile?

It's rare (and creepy) that anyone gives a flying duck what other people do with their recreational hours. But this particular phobia seems to imply larger issues of psychology, narcissism and overcompensation.

If all you know about someone is that they passionately hate soccer, you already know a great deal.

I think the drivers are athletes, so that seems like a sport. I like motorsports in general but dislike NASCAR for the anti-competitive rules. They might as well be running coal powered steam engines.

F1 is far superior for me and at the end of all that fuel wasting cool and useful gadgets get invented like anti lock brakes, split turbos, fuel injection, carbon composites, variable cam timing....and those things eventually make it to production cars that we all use.

What is weird to me is when there is discussion over an up and coming young NASCAR driver and one critique is: "he'll be so much more dominant or consistent in the field when he acquires more high level sponsorships and upgrades his car."

... as if the cars aren't essentially the same already? (I'll concede that since it was said by a commentator back in the COVID sports doldrums, that differentiation exists between cars, but how different can a "stock car," be?)

F1 has a ton of sex appeal. The tech, the culture, the locations, the variety in racetracks. The race translates well from TV to in person as well, the one I saw live was thrilling from start to finish.

thrilling from start to finish.

I saw Hamilton win at Silverstone. The race was good but the event itself was a joy the whole weekend. It reminded me of the infield at the Kentucky Derby, everyone slightly overdressed and completely sloshed by noon. Part prehistoric part sci-fi pure fun.

For all the nonsense of "smelly euros" the thing you notice most about sporting events in other countries in how much they (and we) are all alike. A European night at Anfield is nearly identical to an Iron Bowl under the lights with the SEC championship on the line. A minority of away fans banded together determined to give as much as they get, singing and chanting and fighting alongside total strangers. It's great, and if you dont like it, that's fine, but you are missing out on a genuinely human experience.

I don't think that explains it. It is something deeper and more troubling. Similar to people that keep wild animals, snakes, tigers and such. There is something seriously wrong with the way their brains work.

Here is the greatest European comeback ever with BBC Radio5 for the commentary. You dont have to be a soccer fan or a Liverpool fan. If Gini slapping the badge doesn't make your jingle jangle we must be a different species.

It's disappointing you would make such statements about Biden, without noticing the same exact patterns and behaviors, if not grossly worse, from Trump.

How can you present yourself as a rational person worth having a discussion with when your so obviously biased?

I don't like Biden. He was the only candidate out of the twenty plus Democratic candidates I didn't want to see as the nominee.
