Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, August 04, 2020

A review by the Justice Department and FBI of their practices for seeking approval of intelligence-related surveillance found that nearly all of the inaccuracies and omissions identified in a scathing internal watchdog report issued late last year were minor or involved paperwork problems.

Those two instances--which involved one misstatement and one omission in separate applications regarding individuals whose identities were not released--were deemed by the law enforcement agencies not to have been so serious that they "invalidated" the secret surveillance warrants the court issued based on that information, wrote Melissa MacTough, the deputy assistant attorney general for national security wrote.

Quite the opposite. The "errors" found by Horowitz in regards to Russiagate were anything but minor. The talking point was that it was standard operating procedure from the FBI therefore it wasn't a big deal. Well, this lays to rest that stupid talking point. It appears that what happened with Trump campaign associates was NOT SOP.

@#4 ... Well, this lays to rest that stupid talking point. It appears that what happened with Trump campaign associates was NOT SOP. ...

I didn't see specific mention in the cited article that the two errors found to be "material" in the 203 false statements or omissions were associated with the Russia investigation.

@#6 ... The IG wasn't looking at anything pertaining to the Russia investigation with this report. ...

My understanding that IG Horowitz looked at many FISA applications inside the Russia investigation and outside the Russia investigation, including those about Mr Carter Page.

If that understanding is correct, then this report seems to say that of the 203 false statements or omissions that the Horowitz report found, only one was material.

But it does not say if that one was under the umbrella of the Russia investigation.

Is my understanding correct?

#7 | Posted by LampLighter at 2020-08-04 11:40 AM | Reply

Is my understanding correct?

I believe that there has already been public testimony to the fact that the only Russia investigation-related FISA surveillance applications were submitted for Carter Page. So nothing else in this investigation even touched anyone in Trump's campaign or orbit.

@#8

My question still stands.

Is the one material issue noted in this review part of a FISA in the Russia investigation, or is the one material issue in this review part of a FISA that was not involved in the Russia investigation?

It's really just a yes or no question.

Mr Horowitz looked at many FISAs that were not part of the Russia investigation. One of those he looked at had material issues, but was that one part of the Russia investigation?

If the answer is "yes" then there are other questions. :)

if the answer is "no" then that seems to indicate that all the FISA requests in the Russia investigation were OK.

So far, I've not seen any credible evidence (e.g., a link to a valid source) to indicate one way or the other.

It's my understanding that this review looked at every FISA warrant except for the Crossfire Hurricane warrants (which the IG had already examined the Woods documents on) during the same time period to examine if the issue was systemic rather than isolated.

#11 | Posted by leftcoastlawyer at 2020-08-04 12:29 PM | Reply

My question still stands.

No it doesn't. There was only ONE FISA target related to the Russia investigation and the Trump campaign, Carter Page. Horowitz already documented that there WERE issues within the pipeline process for renewing his applications. Based upon reading the report summary, it's likely that Page was indeed one of the "material" mistakes because Horowitz already confirmed it in his testimony.

FISA applications only apply to US individuals, not foreigners. Since the Russians were already under surveillance, their conversations with Trump officials were recorded without any need for FISA warrants.

Page was unique among Trump's crew because he had established ties with Russian sources in Russia and the US, along with his own weird statements and connections and history as a probable Russian target as a recruit prospect - something the FBI caught on tape being discussed by Russians who were later indicted and charged inside the US.

Maybe you should turn off fixed news a minute have some covfefe and read the report.

Horowitz found that FBI investigators followed existing rules in opening Crossfire Hurricane even if those rules were "lax".

Barr called that "serious malfeasance". How do you get "serious malfeasance" out of following lax rules???

Horowitz said that F.B.I. procedures require an "articulable factual basis" that "reasonably indicates" that a crime or a national security threat exists to wiretap someone.

Mr. Horowitz found that a national security threat DID exist and so the investigation did meet that standard.

The Oranges were just. Long live the Oranges!

As it pertains to Russian collusion, in spite of all of the law-breaking tactics utilized by the investigators they still found no crime of criminal conspiracy with Russia.

"#81 read the IG report"

Read me the part that says "serious malfeasance."

"Open username for multiple users? Makes sense."

Definitely this.

Zetaleph referred to something Zetaleph said with "he meant... "

So there are definitely multiple users on the account.

Could be an acronym from their initials: E for Eberly, A for Andrea, a mattress, Ph for PhesterOBoyle. Z for Zombie Zatoichi who is celebrating the GOP Mass American Extinction Evebt.

So which partisan investigation led by Trump sycophants should we be waiting for now? Jeff used to always get us so excited about the next shoe to drop.

Personally I have always just assumed that the FBI investigates crime and if you don't commit crimes, you have nothing to fear.

I am happy that they listen to the Russians calls and it's really sad republicans got caught up in it but hey, why so many calls to the Russians? (Which they then all tried to deny) Now its all about process because thats all they have left.

And if this the deep state covering its ass.. how come after 3.5 years of Trump is the deep state even an issue... another failed promise?

So anyway.

What were the not-so-minor errors, and what was affected by those errors?

Those were thoroughly reviewed by the IG and proved serious malfeasance

As you have been told several times now, the report no where says "serious malfeasance" or anything close to that language.

You are just repeating another Bill Barr partisan (Are you surprised I am a Republican) lie.

As I said. All you deplorables know how to do is lie.

Bigly

Like your Dear Leader. 20,000 lies and still counting.

kids going back to school in the fall (fingers crossed).

Fingers crossed for them, you and your wife.

Great to hear the new grill is working out. You know how important that is to me.

Dude. It's been great. Been making some masterpieces.

And create new user accounts, in violation of community terms of service.

Rules don't apply to them. Why? Because some animals are more equal than others.

A review by Zetaleph and Deplorables found that nearly all of the inaccuracies and omissions identified in a scathing internal watchdog report issued late last year were NOT minor or involved paperwork problems.

They were "serious malfeasance"!

Why?

Because Bill Barr said so.

You know Bill Barr. Trumpy's "personal lawyer". Paid for you and me. Barr is the guy who said Mueller found NO evidence of collusion when mueller clearly said he found there were over 100 contacts between Trump campaign advisors and individuals affiliated with the Russian government, before and after the election, but the evidence was INSUFFICIENT to show an illegal conspiracy.
