A city of about 7,000 in a rural region of western South Dakota is set to host what will likely be one of the largest gatherings the world has seen in months, as hundreds of thousands are expected to show up for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally even with coronavirus cases climbing in the state.

These people can't take a year off during a pandemic. They're expecting as many as 250,000. Hopefully the turnout will be much lower.

All these people from all over the country are getting together to infect each other and then take it home.

I bet the residents of that armpit will vote in some new local government if any of them are left in the aftermath of this rally.

I can't believe they're holding it this year. In the middle of a pandemic? Well, if SD hasn't been hit hard yet, they're about to find out the virus doesn't care about the economy or political persuasion or borders.

One year back in the 90's, I was in Rapid City. A friend suggested we drive to Sturgis and check it out for the afternoon, so we did.

In a parking lot around the corner from the main drag in town, a biker club was holding a "first old lady to make her old man come" BJ contest. Somewhere between 10 and 20 dudes were on their backs. Someone yelled 'GO!' and the 'old ladies' all took their old men's junk in their mouths. First one to make their dude spout was declared the winner. There was also a 'rice burner' event where they were pushing Japanese bikes out of the 2nd story of a barn just outside of town. Couldn't say if they still hate Japanese bikes or not.

Went there in 2005. It's a zoo. Definitely wouldn't go there during the corona, probably not even without.

Yes, and these people don't fit the demographic who would be seen wearing face masks or social distancing. It's a wonder that Trump isn't going to hold a rally in Sturgis as he's always talking about how great that 'Bikers for Trump' group is. I'm sure that there will be a lot of MAGA hats and Confederate flags on display.

From what I've seen of bikers around here is that many are older, do not observe social distancing and are rabid anti-maskers.

Coronavirus likes this.

They'll come to town, spread the virus in a giant petri dish then take it home to their families.

Selfish idiotic --------- are killing America.

I'm just going to say it up front now before the event. I will sympathize for the victims of these a******s but not an ounce of sympathy for them when they get the virus. If you're going to be dumb yo got to be tough.

Business won out even over a sizable majority of residents who didn't want it.

60% " A survey found that's the share of Sturgis residents who wanted to see the rally postponed.

The chances of this rally being called a superspreader event in hindsight are pretty high.

Most bikers wear at least some form of face covering. At least while they're riding.

Once they all go in the bar they're so screwed.

If the state had a half way decent governor they would intervene and protect the health of the people. But instead they have corporate shill Kristi Noem leading the state.

Guess we'll never definitively know for sure but will be able to guess when some posters never show up again.

When a dude dies from choking on his own vomit with a quart of Jack Daniels flowing through him while going straight through a tight turn in the Black Hills, they'll simply write 'COVID' as his cause of death. Sad.

Seriously though...wrong demographic for this.

It's ez to socially distance on a bike. Bikers are anti social by nature.

It's the only time they do socialize. That's why they go to bars. To get drunk and screw.

Yeah I'm in favor of some kind of acknowledgement of the Retorters who were snuffed out by the COVFEFE-45 plandemic.

So far it's just Nullifidian, and even that hasn't been confirmed yet. For all we know he slipped on San Francisco sidewalk poop.

Gruesome, more death.More mayhem. Bikers love that ----. Choking on their own mucus, not so much. If I was them I would stay the eff home.

Not worth the downside, even if they don't die themselves they are sure to bring misfortune to others when they go home.

Sort of. 250,000 people on bikes. 2,500 legit outlaw bikers. Most of that 250k won't be showing up. It's old white guys. Their wives won't let them out of the house.

#6 | Posted by americanunity at 2020-08-04 08:28 PM

Those Japanese bikes go faster and cost less than those Harley Hogs. The only way a Harley could maybe win is driving a pair, a Japanese super bike and a Harley hog, off a cliff! It's moot now, as Harley Davidson is having difficulties...their customers are getting too old and broke to ride.

We'll see. I have a Harley Road King. I really wanted to go this year. My Harley would be a hit there. It sounds like a real Harley. Because it is a real Harley. But I am not going and it's not because of my wife. It's because that is what Common Sense is telling me to do.

Jim Cricket says this is not the year to go.

My fiance's parents just showed up today. She asked him "Does it look like there's 250,000 people?" He replied, "More like 400,000 but who's counting."

I opined, "People tracking COVID, that's who."

Did not get a laugh.

#38 | POSTED BY SITZKRIEG

It's a 2004. It's a twin cam 88 (1447cc)

The engine's name came from the addition of second cam to actuate the push rods. It's not a "Japanese clone". It's a Road King. Made in Merica.

What kind do you have?
