Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Russia continues to use a network of proxy websites to spread pro-Kremlin disinformation and propaganda in the United States and other parts of the West, according to a State Department report released on Wednesday. The report is one of the most detailed explanations yet from the Trump administration on how Russia disseminates disinformation, but it largely avoids discussing how Moscow is trying to influence the current campaign.

Admin's note: Participants in this discussion must follow the site's moderation policy. Profanity will be filtered. Abusive conduct is not allowed.

Most of the report focuses on an ecosystem of websites, many of them fringe or conspiracy minded, that Russia has used or directed to spread propaganda on a variety of topics. Those include an online journal called the Strategic Culture Foundation and other sites, like the Canada-based Global Research. The document builds on information disclosed last week by American officials about Russian intelligence's control of various propaganda sites.

The report states that the Strategic Culture Foundation is directed by Russia's foreign intelligence service, the S.V.R., and stands as "a prime example of longstanding Russian tactics to conceal direct state involvement in disinformation and propaganda outlets." The organization publishes a wide variety of fringe voices and conspiracy theories in English, while trying to obscure its Russian government sponsorship.

Here we are again, four years later. At this very moment four years ago disclosures of Russia's attempts to interfere in our presidential election became almost daily occurrences. And many of us called for the immediate widespread broadcast of what was happening wholly independent of supporting the candidates. Russia was attacking ALL of us even if they were using their influence to help one candidate over the other. And apparently they're doing it again.

It does no good to expect Republicans to care now when just today Lindsey Graham had the temerity to opine in committee in questioning Sally Yates that the Obama Administration didn't do enough to protect us from the Russians when he knows full well that Mitch McConnell himself thwarted a bipartisan public rebuke of Russian interference in September 2016, swearing that he'd claim such a statement completely political, insinuating that Obama was using the government to help Hillary Clinton.

Now Trump's own State Department is admitting that Russia is at it again though they don't want to link what they're doing as helping Trump. Here we go again.

Wonder how long it will take for Trump to declare his own State Department's report as just another "Russia hoax" yet again?

The main difference here is that's it damn near impossible for Trump to blame Obama for what his personal lapdog Pompeo actually created under his own Administration.

The Russian interference in US elections will be taken seriously and acted upon only when a Trump-supporting GOP candidate gets attacked by Russian disinformation campaigns. And maybe not even then. Who knew that Russia would be a big supporter of the party of Joe McCarthy, Nixon, Goldwater, Ike, William F. Buckley and so many Russia-haters. Are the Russians reverse victims of the Stockholm syndrome, or do the simply see the modern GOP to be populated by dupes, know-nothings and useful idiots?

So the Russians definitely hacked the last election but they won't do it again.

Them Ruskies and Trumpy both learned their lessons.

Trumpy learned to never admit anything, never give up any evidence that can be used against you and stop telling Russia to go ahead and hack us on live tv.

Them Ruskies learned that America is stupid, helpless and in chaos and that disinformation on fakebook werks!
