Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, August 06, 2020

Over the last seven days, a grim new COVID-19 calculus has emerged: one person died every 80 seconds from the coronavirus in America. And the pace at which those 7,486 people died appears to be accelerating, a new NBC News tally revealed Wednesday. The numbing new national snapshot of how COVID-19 is claiming more and more lives came as Johns Hopkins University reported another milestone: The world death toll from this plague had eclipsed 700,000.

The U.S. has logged over 4.8 million confirmed cases. And around 1.8 million of those have come since July 7, when the 3 millionth case was reported, NBC News figures show.

Under fire for being slow to respond to the COVID-19 crisis and presiding over the biggest economic disaster since the Great Depression, President Donald Trump once again downplayed the extent of the pandemic in a call-in interview Wednesday with "Fox & Friends."

"This thing is going away," he said. "It will go away like things go away."

Joe Biden, the Democrat hoping to oust Trump from the White House come November, fired back.

"Donald Trump continues to live in a world of delusion," Biden said in a statement.

"More people die from the flu."

It's true, of course. Throughout the course of history, more people have died from the flu.

So stop with those crocodile tears or you'll have to face a brutal tongue lashing from Eberly!

No September or October political surprise is going to suddenly erase all the thousands upon thousands of American deaths directly tied to Trump's malevolence and refusal to do what every other nation's leaders did to minimize their country's infections and fatalities. The graphs don't lie, they condemn Trump universally by every meaningful metric used in comparison to his entreaty of the deaths as "It is what it is."

The virus is the number one issue and nothing is going to replace it as long as Americans continue to die at a rate of one every minute and 20 seconds.

Nothing.

Americans should be angry. We have the most resources of any country in the world and we should not accept the outcome of that which we are receiving. Donald Trump will be remembered as the worst President in history. And he deserves to be remembered that way. His supporters are simply insane, no other explanation could account for that.

around 1.8 million of those have come since July 7

The reason I highlighted this is quite frightening in what its calculations predict.

Currently, Worldometers pegs the U.S. fatality rate to confirmed infections at 6%. Let's reduce this to 4%.

Which leaves us with another 72,000 probable deaths on just those infected in the last month alone. Add that to the 160,000 already dead and you get 232,000 deaths - most likely before October - if the disease follows its established trajectory.

And Trump presently has zero plans to proactively do anything to stop its continued death march throughout America.

Killing a nationwide testing strategy to "own the libs" leading to this many deaths is negligent homicide. They knew people would die and did nothing because it was only killing blue states. This level of corrupt evil needs to be imprisoned.

The deniers I know continue to deny because the "death numbers are inflated".

And then there's the stories of the deniers actively trying to spread the disease (e.g., spitting on people after being told to where a mask or shop somewhere else).

I think its going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

There should be punishment for any leader saying that. Like prison. That is simply lying to the people, which jeopardizes the lives of their children, for pure political advantage and nothing else. Oh....and it isn't working.... turns out most Americans love their kids more than Donald Trump. I know I do.

Shiny object: The virus will just go away, meanwhile 157,000 people are dead. Beleive what you want but understand, your side is killing thousands of American because they don't want to ask you to just wear a mask. Other countries have gotten the virus under control but they didn't have a right wing lunatic majority in the Senate and the WH. Your side is just wrong, science is on our side. I've noticed that many of the remaining Right-wing posters are retreating into an aloof, a pox on all their houses political posture.

I take from that that they have concluded Trump will lose, and are positioning themselves into some faux moral position so that they can rise above their portion of the blame for what's happening to this country.

She wouldn't abide by any mitigation measures. Thought the whole thing was a hoax. Well, she knows differently NOW.

My cousin and his wife have told her they'll be the first to call the cops and have her arrested if she violates quarantine.

BTW, in addition to my aunt, Trump's cured these Florida cousins from supporting Republicans as of 2018.

The plethora of books that they write detailing their perilous, and completely selfless, fight to wrestle power from the madman who the Democrats put in charge of the country will put a big ole stupid smile on my face.

It will also be comical to see them decked out in full hazmat suits on the floor of the Senate because Joe Biden and the Democrats aren't taking the plague seriously.

If Dems would put as much effort into stopping more serious issues, this country could actually get better. Seems Dems don't know what "novel pandemic" means, so their knowledge is just as terrible as it is about the separation between Federal and State responsibilities. A novel pandemic is going to do exactly what covid is doing. Millions forced in to sex slavery globally every year SHOULD NOT be just what humans do. But yeah, let's fight against a partisan topic in an election year and ignore all the other bad going on that is not an inherent trait of the control. It's sickening how bad Dems and Reps completely ignore issues that aren't partisan but are more serious than partisan hate.

I don't think it was ever higher than double digits.

Trump is directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
Republicans don't care.
But even darker than that, they can't accept that Trump bears any responsibility at all.

It's just like Trump said:
"I don't take responsibility at all"
