Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has tested positive for coronavirus, his office announced Thursday. The Republican governor is asymptomatic, according to his office, and plans to quarantine at home for 14 days. DeWine was tested ahead of President Trump's trip to Ohio on Thursday, and the governor was set to meet Trump on the tarmac.

DeWine took a test because he was scheduled to meet with Trump. So a test saved Trump from being exposed, yet Trump doesn't think the rest of us Americans should be tested so much.

This virus doesn't care who you are. Dewine seemed to take the virus seriously.

Does anyone know if he issues a statewide mask mandate? If not, and if he himself wasn't wearing an N95 mask, he may have caught it from someone who wasn't wearing a mask.

BTW, cloth and surgical masks will protect me from you, but only you wearing an N95 will protect you from me.

DeWine is 74 and has respiratory issues. Hopefully his experience will not go prototypically.

DeWine has actually behaved rather responsibly during this pandemic, despite being a Republican. I wish him well.

Truly sorry for Gov. DeWine. He has been one of the better Republican Governors and I am very sorry he is experiencing this virus because, at his age, it is very dangerous. My prayers are with him.

As a former Ohioan, I never liked this guy. My wife and I were stunned to learn of his actions this year to help combat COVID. We were--and still are--impressed with DeWine's work on behalf of the citizens of the Buckeye State. He has done right by all in Ohio and deserves more credit than he has gotten. For that, I hope he recovers quickly, with no after effects...

This is certainly going to get him "street cred" if he lives long enough to run for President in 2024.

How many more have to die for Trumpy to take this pandemic seriously?

According to news stories late Thursday evening, DeWine evidently was rapid tested again and the second test was negative. An ER doctor ripped him a new one for having thrown the specter that testing might flawed by misunderstanding how rapid testing works.

Rapid testing may give you false negatives, but it doesn't give false positives. Now DeWine is waiting for the more accurate lab test results, but he's unintentionally created the idea in the public's mind that rapid testing might give false positive results which could undermine the public's faith in tests that most can't possibly understand the science underpinning them.

This morning the reports are DeWine's negative test was a PCR test administered by Ohio State University, so for now it is presumed that DeWine is indeed covid negative.

>>This morning the reports are DeWine's negative test

DeWine was scheduled to meet Trump yesterday. Then came the positive test. Meeting canceled. Then came the negative test. This maneuver is known as the #idiot_swerve

Yes, I live in Ohio and DeWine has received broad approval from non-Republicans here.
The Trumpers are fed up with him and want to jump back in the ball pit at Burger King.

"How many more have to die for Trumpy to take this pandemic seriously?

Vastly overly generalized.

The test given to Dewine was an antigen test, not a viral test. He has tested negative by two pcr tests since the positive result.
