Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, August 08, 2020

Government watchdogs, Democratic lawmakers, and pro-democracy advocates declared it a "Friday Night Massacre" for the U.S. Postal Service after news broke in a classic end-of-the-week dump that Louis DeJoy -- a major GOP donor to President Donald Trump and the recently appointed Postmaster General -- had issued a sweeping overhaul of the agency, including the ouster of top executives from key posts and the reshuffling of more than two dozen other officials and operational managers.

Why does the GOP hate the US postal service?

Considering they count rural voters as their base, why are they out to destroy the rural way of life?
When you live in the country you just can't run down to the lobby fedex store.
You know who else doesn't have a coherent postal service?

Russia and North Korea

"Why does the GOP hate the US postal service?"

Because it's a public utility, not a for-profit private enterprise.

Trump and co-conspirators are not even hiding their plan... sabatoging the post office 90 days before a huge mail in vote is traitor type behavior and if it works for them, it won't end well.

"all of a sudden?"

You haven't paid any attention or you're clueless and thought "oh, they must all have hated the Postal Service and they're all hypocrites" because you don't like them, or something. Who knows. All I know is that I, as a "liberal" have always stood up for the USPS, it's not any "liberal" that's trying to wipe it out. It's not any "liberal" that is ignoring the Constitution which specifically calls for the USPS.

Idiot.

I remember that it was the post office that was always the first to employ vets from the Vietnam era. They gave very good preferential selection for veterans while most who were being released post Vietnam war were desperate for any kind of work. I suspect that this stands true today for vets and yet this traitorous rapist in office does what he can to denigrate vets and deny them means to a fulfilling employment. And denying US citizens the right to vote safely.
Here are the rules the USPS uses for Veteran hirings.

If there were any actual patriots in the US military, there would be tanks rolling on Washington DC. But there aren't, and the fate of the US will ultimately be the same as the Third Reich. But the death toll will be astonishingly higher.

Whether one loves or not loves the Post Office aside...

I have to ask...

Given the current status of the pandemic and how voting may need to be performed on Election Day, why are the Republicans so quiet about Pres Trump's apparent focus on making voting by mail a non-option.

The Republicans have always been very vocal about proper voting, so one would think that they would want the needed voting by mail capability to work and work well.

Yet they seem to be sitting quietly on the sidelines, looking quite afraid to step up and assure a working vote-by-mail process.

Why are the Republicans so timid on this issue? Don't they want their constituents to be able to vote?

It's simple more voting means more democratic voting means bigger republican loss.

Trump bypasses Congress and hands out $400 per week in additional unemployment benefits as part of his COVID executive order...

That would be the 177th Executive Order from this guy:

The country wasn't based on executive orders," Trump said at a South Carolina campaign stop in February 2016. "Right now, Obama goes around signing executive orders. He can't even get along with the Democrats, and he goes around signing all these executive orders. It's a basic disaster. You can't do it."

Bit of a change in polarity there for some reason.

Add this to Trump's long list of bad decisions. He can't kill vote-by-mail because that's already been approved by 38 states (and growing) including red states.

It can affect the delivery of ballots, which is the purpose but that includes Republican votes for him and the down ticket votes for 23 Republican Senators who are up for re-lections this year.

Since state rules apply, precincts could also decide to accept late arrivals by using this slowdown as a reasonable excuse to make sure all votes are counted.

Precincts that favor Democrats would certainly do that if they can. But would precincts that favor Republicans do the same?

This looks to me like Trump ha painted himself into a corner.
