Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 12, 2020

On Tuesday, as Florida set a new daily record for covid-19 deaths, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods prohibited his deputies from wearing masks at work. His order, which also applies to visitors to the sheriff's office, carves out an exception for officers in some locations, including hospitals, and when dealing with people who are high-risk or suspected of having the novel coronavirus. Woods, meanwhile, told his deputies on Tuesday to stop wearing masks in most cases.

... Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods prohibited his deputies from wearing masks at work. ...

Reasons like this are why Senate Republicans want employer liability removed from any COVID-19 relief bills.

The Republicans want to be able to seriously affect workers' health without being held accountable for their actions.

Dumbass Sheriff in an extremely white and red (neck) part of Florida. Also deeply Trumplandia. Bigly so.

Dumbass Sheriff actually said "We can debate and argue all day of why and why not. The fact is, the amount of professionals that give the reason why we should, I can find the exact same amount of professionals that say why we shouldn't," Which is a lie. Put up or shutup you dumbass.

"As for special details and/or any special events (paid or not), masks will not be worn," Woods said. "In addition, if you are the special detail deputy you will again advise the contact person that a mask will not be worn by you."

He's ordering no masks to be worn. Not allowed. Even in his "exception" is a joke:

"For all of these exceptions, the moment that enforcement action is to be taken and it requires you to give an individual orders/commands to comply, the mask will be immediately removed,"

What can you do about this level of stupid in a county of stupid, ordering all the police and those that work in the Sherriff's office to be stupid?

#6 | Posted by YAV at 2020-08-12 10:34 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 3

The Sheriff stated, "our number of cases so far has proven that the current way we are approaching the issue is working."

"Marion County broke its record for single-day COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday with 13. Florida state officials reported 5,887 new cases on Tuesday and 276 deaths."

BTW - that's a new record for deaths for the State of Florida.

Marion County is sparsely populated, 365,579 people, lots of horse farms, the Ocala National Forest, and springs. It's a beautiful area, but damn there are some dumb people there.

Friday night out in Ocala is hitting the Wal-Mart looking for someone for a "date."

"The Republicans want to be able to seriously affect workers' health without being held accountable for their actions."

Republicans have wanted this type of protection all along for businesses at the expense of the worker . They love it that you can barely pay the rent and are held hostage by your health care so you can't quit when they create hostile or unhealthy working conditions.

They do not want to be held accountable for their actions. That might cost them.

Republicans have become the Party of No Responsibility.

Where I live, that's a lot of people! Though I suspect the Friday night Walmart thing is about the same.

I live in a county with just 30,000.

Our county recently had a COVID outbreak WITHIN the Sheriffs Dept. But it still didn't convince the Sheriff to enforce the statewide mask mandate. Perhaps if one of his deputies has died....

1,663 square miles, 365,579 people, or about 220 people per square mile.
Sounds a lot denser that way. Hmm.
Oh yeah - I forgot. The Villages is also in Marion County (one of 3 counties it has spread across). You know The Villages? Where "White Power" was shouted in the golf-cart protest and Trump goes to visit beause he loves it so much?

We have a place near Silver Springs in this county where I spend most of my time now; there are multiple first magnitude clear water springs within minutes to an hour of here, pumping out literal rivers of 72 degree year round water.

Ocala is also the self-proclaimed Horse Capital of the World, and it's beautiful horse country...

www.google.com

Marion county had about 5 deaths total the first months of the pandemic, and people here, staunch rwingers mostly, paid little attention. But in the last month or so the attitude changed and we saw a lot more people taking precautions... those that weren't busy flying Rebel flags from their pick'em-up truck an posting Trump signs in their yards.

Now this complete idiot will be setting said progress back, perhaps irretrievably.

This Sheriff appears to believe he is the law per Posse Comitatis; the city council passed a law providing for fines for ignoring precautions, but the Mayor ditched it after the Sheriff said he wouldn't enforce it.... even after a couple of hundred cases and a the death of an employee in his jail.

Sad, but Trump.

Ok. The 5 words....

Uncle Fester "believes that the president has done a tremendous job fighting the virus " and that he shouldn't take responsibility at all' " even though about 160,000 Americans have died. Uncle FesteringBoil believes the virus IS WHAT IT IS!"

And he also believes it isn't racist to call the coronavirus kung flu' or the China Virus.' It isn't racially divisive to say Black Lives Matter is a symbol of hate,' to celebrate Confederate generals as part of our Great American Heritage,' or to share video of someone shouting white power,' which, like displaying the Confederate flag, is freedom of speech.'"

And most sadly of all he believes his President is not telling him and the rest America even more hellish lies than we could ever come up with on a daily basis.

Why are deplorables not outraged? I don't care want they "wanted". The death of hundreds of thousands of Americans is what they got.

Breaking News.... ;p

Published: Aug. 12, 2020 at 1:16 PM EDT
Ocala, Fla. (WCJB) -Face masks are required in the City of Ocala.

The Ocala City Council voted 4-1 to overturn Ocala Mayor Kent Guinn's veto - the only dissenting vote came from Council President Jay Musleh.

Guinn vetoed the ordinance on Monday, announcing his decision on the radio during the Bob Rose Show.

The City Council had approved an emergency ordinance requiring people to wear face masks when they entered a business within the city last week.

The ordinance states that businesses would have to posts signage about the face covering requirement, make announcements over the business's p-a system, and make "a reasonable effort" to ensure patrons and employees wear a mask.

Let's see if Deputy Dawg will enforce the law now... or not.

This ---- is the stuff of nightmares. The GOP are in total denial. Some people just can't process this kind of sustained trauma. They go blank and revert to their "normal" behavior even when that is suicidal. This happens in prison, and in war. Some people just can't adapt to sustained pressure, especially when the time frame is open ended. Too bad for them in most circumstances, but when it's a deadly epidemic other people pay for their weakness.
