Donna F. Edwards: I thought it didn't matter -- until it did. Now, I can say out loud that Sen. Kamala D. Harris -- a Black woman, a woman of color, a daughter of immigrants -- is former vice president Joe Biden's choice to help him rid the White House of Donald Trump and build a better future. And it feels awfully good to say.

(O)nce Biden made his announcement, it all seemed so clear and so right. By the most important metrics, Harris fits the bill perfectly. The senator from California is a great campaigner and will be an asset connecting with voters. She has demonstrated her command of policy issues from foreign affairs to criminal justice reform during her time in state office, in the Senate and on the campaign trail. Without a doubt, Harris is prepared to be president on day one.

The Democratic Party is a broad and diverse coalition, but Black women represent its most loyal voting bloc. In 2016, we cast 94 percent of our votes for Hillary Clinton, while a majority of White women chose President Trump. We punched above our weight in 2018, turning out above the national average. This year, Biden experienced the power of Black women firsthand. It's not an exaggeration to say that he owes his come-from-behind primary victory to us; in the pivotal South Carolina primary, Black women accounted for fully a third of the vote, and two-thirds chose Biden.

Black women vote for the futures of our sons and daughters; we vote for our health and the health of our communities. Black women saw in Biden the answer to Trump that the country desperately needs; by choosing Harris as his running mate, Biden has shown he recognizes that we are a critical part of that answer, too.

Harris was the right choice " both for the voices she empowers and for the person she is. She is at ease with herself, she has a story to tell, and she will energize voters. I remember being with Harris at a gathering of Black women at Spelman College " women young and old were captivated by her. I remember the quiet that washed over the chapel, all eyes on her, as she urged women to be fearless in breaking barriers. America is about to discover just how fearless she is.

I sit back and observe the pervasiveness of privilege and ignorance manifest themselves through the critics of Joe Biden's most obvious choice all along. It remains so easy to dismiss and mock a life so far lived serving the public good instead of acquiring personal wealth and intentional celebrity. Everything which actually prepares one for the most testing of crucibles on the planet is diminished and who one shared intimacy with becomes the first comments out of certain critical mouths in complete hypocrisy of the mountain of extramarital trysts and the scores of scorned lovers and conquests strewn aside by their favored cretin.

Harris was the right choice because of her experience, her background, her accomplishments, and most of all how she compliments and accentuates all that Biden is and has been. She will never shirk from her duty of giving him honest counsel from her expansive life experience wholly unlike Biden's own. Such a breadth of experiences will serve this nation well, far more than the homogeneous milquetoast men of privilege who've never been faced with hardships during the totality of their lives.

With her looks, her smarts, her pedigree, she could have made a fortune as a TV talking head, political/legal analyst, host but instead she works "for the people." I respect her for that higher calling, and think that as America really gets to know her, they will like her more and more. She's already more popular than Pence, and only Dems were marginally paying attention during the primary.

For all the so far inane criticism coming from the right, not a single person has said that she appears unfit to assume the presidency if necessary and that alone is quite telling.

She is going to prosecute the case of The United States People v. Donald Trump and Michael Pence in a way that will resonate differently than a usual politician. Her prosecutorial chops and command of both the facts and the language are going to be something Trump and Pence never encountered from Hillary and Tim Kaine.

Since Biden's verbal skills have been constantly called into question, he couldn't have picked a better partner who will use her voice to slice and dice Trump/Pence and their tragic failures of leadership into bite size pieces - then she'll shove them right back down their mawing gullets.

Tony, you do realize that if you keep posting positive articles about Sen. Harris the mouthbreathers are going to accuse you of being Righto's sockpuppet as well... :)

Prominent posters on this very weblog have said that Biden could have nominated a steaming pile and they would still vote for the team.

Tony doesn't lie about who he is or what he thinks. Or his relationship with RightOCenter.

Prominent posters on this very weblog have said that Biden could have nominated a steaming pile and they would still vote for the team.

First, no national Democratic vice presidential candidates fit the category of being a steaming pile. Biden's list were all accomplished woman with impeccable backgrounds - the majority were elected officials in their own right.

And since Trump DID actually choose a steaming pile of sycophancy to be his VP, even if Biden chose someone questionable, he himself is still far superior to Donald Trump by every possible metric.

Biden was VP for 8 years and partnered in the Administration that began this nation's longest streak of economic gains in history. Trump took over the driver's seat and proceeded to downplay a global pandemic which has left what Biden and Obama gave him now lying prone in a ditch.

I think most will trust one of the mechanics who built and drove the car successfully upward for six years over the replacement hack who managed to total the car in less than 4.

In this day and age Snoofy, you shouldn't repress your longing for men. Go ahead and let it out.

The only person who will judge you is your Mom.

"In this day and age Snoofy, you shouldn't repress your longing for men."

I don't.

I long for men exactly as much as I want, which is none.

In this day and age, it's sad you have to stay in the closet for business purposes.

Given how often you try to use gay slurs, we all know that is not true.

It's OK, no one will judge you.

Ah, I see you're more of a Mike Pence type: tall, blonde, and into guys with mommy issues.

It's 2020, nothing wrong with being forthright about your sexual proclivities.

During the primaries Kamala said she believed the Biden accusers:
On April 2, 2019, Harris said "I believe them," in reference to four women who had by then accused Biden of inappropriate touching.

"During the primaries Kamala said she believed the Biden accusers:"

During the primaries the accusations were not unbelievable.
Do you believe the accusations, GoNoles?

Bonus points: Why are you on a first name basis with Ms. Harris, but not on a first name basis with Joe?
