The U.S. is cutting back on coronavirus testing. Nationally, the number of tests performed each day is about 17% lower than it was at the end of July, and testing is also declining in hard-hit states.

So the choice seems to be either do not do enough testing and get the results back fairly quickly.

- or -

Do more, but still not enough, testing and get the results back more slowly.

What about the third choice --- ramp up a national testing infrastructure that can both do enough testing and return the results quickly, and as a result, help us fight this enemy.

Why hasn't the Greatest Nation of the Planet done that yet?

Testing numbers are down for multiple reasons. But one of the biggest is that people understand that if results aren't delivered within 48 hours testing is pretty much useless unless the people tested self-isolate until they receive their results. And very few if any have the luxury of doing that.

So people are going without testing, just figuring out they'll know if they get sicker what is going on.

But that also means asymptomatic carriers will go unidentified and infection rates will continue to climb as will deaths and hospitalizations.

Just a perfect storm of ineptitude and negligence rolled into one as more get infected and more continue to die.

If an enemy agent ever took over the White house... how could they do any more damage to our republic then Trump.

He can't be wrong on everything by accident... at some point you have to admit its his agenda to weaken us in every way.

If you test less, you have less cases. Duh.

Why hasn't the Greatest Nation of the Planet done that yet?

Because Jared and Trampy wanted blue states to suffer. The idea that it would spread to red states never occurred to them.

Very stable jeniuses.

There's less testing, yet the number of deaths have been going up. Trump is a genius!

Well, the GOP base is largely rural ignorant morons who will believe it when the numbers "go down" because they won't be seeing it like an urban voter will.

Still, it's a big gamble to take given this isn't going away and there's going to be a lot of pissed off people after the election when it gets really really nasty in December/January.

Sort of makes me worry what they have up their sleeves to deal with that inevitable backlash...
