The US House of Representatives has passed a bill that would inject $25bn into the Postal Service (USPS) ahead of November's election. The legislation would also block cuts and changes that critics have said will hamper mail-in voting.

Virtually meaninless in a government so divided and where everyone knows Moscow Mitch won't allow anything to be done in the Senate.

The proposal passed largely along party lines, 257-150, with 26 Republicans voting with Democrats.

The House is the only body that bears even a remotely accurate representation of America.

Of those voting, 63% want this bill to pass and just 37% do not. And yet it will not become law.

The American system is fundamentally broken.

The measure won't become law, as witness the vicious Republican Senate majority. But the vote has and will put Republicans on record for who wants old people to get their Social Security checks and who wants war veterans to get their medications.

Dead chickens, which Trump seems gifted at creating, may yet come home to roost.

Another Pelosi show vote, nothing is going to happen. If you are concerned about your vote get off your --- and go to the polls. The USPS is inept and not capable of delivering votes in a timely manner.

This is one of the main reasons that turtle face McConnell MUST be voted

out of office. McConnell needs to be replaced.......That's ENOUGH of his

obstructionist and delaying tactics!!

Uh, social security checks are EFT, there are only a handful that are mailed anymore. Reason the government went to EFT is the USPS is incompetent and cannot be depended on to deliver mail in a timely manner.

Hundreds of thousands of Social Security checks still go out by mail

@#6 ... Reason the government went to EFT is the USPS is incompetent and cannot be depended on to deliver mail in a timely manner. ...

The main reason that the government went to ETF for Social Security checks was a cost reason.

ETF is much, much less expensive than printing and mailing checks.

There could be nine GOP senators who will be made to look bad for not voting to protect the USPS"all are up for re-election...

I can't square this with my experience or that of anyone I know.

This came out as a talking point exactly when Trump needed it as a talking point.

You do know that the USPS was successfully delivering medications to veterans before Trump sabotaged it?

This is one of the things I have never understood about Trumpites, although II have my theories.

Why is it so damned easy to bend reality when Donald Trump tells you that you must do so?

No the American system is working just as intended.
That this particular result is not what you want, does not mean the system is broken.

Very true. Or at least, it is now that you have conservatives running it. When liberals were running it, it was doing just fine. But, that is hardly unexpected when conservative culture considers science and education to be "elitist", and requires everything they touch to confirm to their ideology, regardless of how much facts and reality show that ideology does not fit in every situation and often makes things more corrupt and less efficient.

And that this particular result IS what you want (weaponizing the post office to try to prevent people from voting and thereby influencing the next election) does not mean that the system is NOT broken.

You want the 37% minority to be able to hold the majority of the country hostage. But, only because you are in the minority. If the tables were turned, you would undoubtedly be calling for armed revolution.

Mister 0'boyle to you... wants the USPS to thrive. I restate the fact that our system is working as intended. IE the majority vote in the House and Senate wins.

If Turtle would allow a vote on the bill it would pass the Senate. All Democrats and enough Republicans would vote to pass it. Mitch won't let a bill get voted on unless a majority of Republicans (who represent a minority of the population) are in favor.

Explain why minority rule is better than majority rule.

Twenty-three Republican incumbents are seeking re-election this year, compared to 12 Democratic incumbents.

And McConnell is vulnerable.

Even if he wins against his fighter pilot challenger the RNC will have to spend so much money to protect his seat that others will lose out. And democrats could win the senate and McConnell will lose his speakership.

Of course, king Trumpy could also just dissolve Congress or just ignore them and rule his subjects the way he wants to.

I'm pretty sure if you combed through GTJR's entire post history, you'd never once find him complaining about the USPS until his Dear Leader sabotaged it.

DONNERBOY @ #22

"Of course, king Trumpy could also just dissolve Congress or just ignore them and rule his subjects the way he wants to."

At the risk of repeating what you already know, let me say . . .

He's doing that now ~ it's a practice run.

But he'll need their vote to call for a Constitutional Convention in his second term when he decides to re-write/change the Constitution. Even Russia has a Constitution that gives Vladimir Putin dictatorial power.

That's one of the reasons it's so important that Democrats take back majority control of the Senate., hopefully one that's veto proof. Even if Trump wins a second term, he's nearly dead in the water without a Republican majority in the Senate.

The other reason, of course, is to impeach Donald Trump if he get's a second term.
