He continued to voters:

"Don't leave it to the Democrats to get rid of Trump. YOU have to get rid of Trump. WE have to wake up every day for the next 67 days and make sure each of us are going to get a hundred people out to vote. ACT NOW!"

The DNC is rolling just like they did in 2016. Another post turtle. You see him on top of that fencepost and you know he didn't get there by himself. And Moore predicted with perfection last time too. He didn't pull a prediction out his fat hairy ass.. nope, he explained in detail why it was going to happen. Youtube is your friend.

Being in a red state that has just a slight tint of blue (went Obama in 2008) I could have told you this. Trump is poised to win our 15 electoral votes again, yet a strong run by Democrats could have changed that. We just aren't seeing a strong run by Democrats.

Lamplighter has been one of the most consistent on here in accepting the likelihood of a Trump victory and I agree with his odds which last I saw him post was 60/40 Trump. Just nuts after everything that it's not 20/80 Biden but it's not and that lands squarely in the laps of Democrats.

When ------- wins in November and the soul searching for a reason begins for the democrats; they should start (and finish) with election security, meaning being able to vote and your vote actually counting.

For the record-90% ------- wins reelection. If Biden wins, it will be a HUGE underdog story.

rump is going to get re-elected.

I talked to my sister in Bend, Oregon last night for the first time since COVID hit. The last time I had talked to her, her political beliefs were comparable to Corky. Not far left, but she hated Trump and Trump supporters. Last night she spent most of the conversation bashing Dems and the Democratic party. She doesn't like Trump, but that's who she will be voting for November.

She's a small business owner who has been pretty successful. COVID restrictions have pretty much destroyed her business. And that's a big part of why she will be supporting Trump. But she also expressed that COVID restrictions on put in place by Kate Brown are also intrusive, and fears that Biden may well require that anyone going outdoors wear a mask.

Oh, and since it's Oregon, there is the three months of riots that have been occurring night after night.

What also plays into an advantage for Trump are the riots or perception of violent protests in some key states. The perception that the Dems are unable or unwilling to effectively counter violent protests will likely drive voters into the Trump camp, even if they really don't like him all that much.

Intrusive? Oregon requires masks in offices and indoor public spaces for anyone over age five, and outdoors when social distancing is not possible. www.deschutes.org

"and fears that Biden may well require that anyone going outdoors wear a mask."

Why is this scary?

"She's a small business owner who has been pretty successful. COVID restrictions have pretty much destroyed her business."

She should have taken advantage of Trump's small business loan program.
It's basically free money to businesses, because it's a loan with no enforceable repayment mechanism, which effectively makes it a grant.
Why didn't she do that?

Because she feels that it is not necessary.

Too many old white people in this country are scared by BLM protesting. I hope I am wrong and Biden destroys Trump on-stage but I think Trump will scream and shout over Biden and his supporters will say Biden is weak and there you have it. Trump squeaks out a victory. I live in a swing state but I see a lot of Trump support here.

Yeah. It's a perception. I don't think there is much Trump can do about what is happening in a state. But the fact that Kate Brown and Ted Wheeler have been unable to contain the violence suggests a weakness on the part of the Democratic party. Or at least that's the narrative Trump is trying to push.

Funny you say that. Before I called my sister, she was sitting down with our 78 year old mother to see what her thoughts were on moving to Costa Rica.

Myself and my wife don't really intend to ever return to the US. My oldest daughter is committed to going to college in Europe. No clue what the younger one is going to do with her life, but I think she would be very unhappy if she returned to the US.

There are details that need to be worked through, but why resign yourself to a dumpster fire, literally if you're living in Portland, when there's an entire world out there?

It could change, it sort of has a delay onset affect. It didn't really hit me until I moved back to the states to go to college.
Freshman dormed with a guy from bumfck, Florida who wished he was a jersey shore castmember. The kinda guy who took oral prohormones but didn't plan out his cycle and would drive across campus to the gym - grew -------. Learned around campus that eventually it wasn't worth going into detail about "where I was from," because there was a decade-gap from living in the states, and most peer's idea of foreign travel/cultural exchange was a cruise to the Bahamas.

Early on in the pandemic, some of the most pointed photos of healthcare workers were those who had rashes from wearing masks for so long. I remember my Mom talking about how it was a problem with American students going out and drinking. And beside the main entrence post in Ulm for a while, they had the wreckage from a bad drunk driving accident on display (I don't know if it was a student or a soldier had who crashed the car). Pretty hardcore public service announcement.

My daughter can drink when and where she wants to, in accordance with the law. But she really doesn't. We've never been strict parents about that kind of thing. In fact she's been bugging us to let her use marijuana. We're like, "OK." Do what you want.

I think it kind of pisses her off because she's got nothing to rebel against.

You saying that masks can damage your face is not a "fact".

"In fact, it is."

No. IT isn't.

The mask is not damaging your face. It is the way you are wearing it. If you are wearing it wrong and not taking proper breaks of course you will have problems. Like wearing rubber gloves all day while working in a kitchen. Maybe you should adjust your ppe. Maybe wear a face shield.

If you are a healthcare worker you should be wearing it a particular way. See. This is the problem. Anything can damage you if used improperly. And forcing workers to wear ppe improperly is the problem.

But since Trump is forcing workers to agree to no liability clauses to be able to work this is what you get.

Look. You are not fooling me. I had smartasses like you work for me. I was a supervisor. Being a supervisor is huge responsibility. Your orders have real affects on real people. I am so glad I don't have to make those calls right now. I would be in so much trouble for trying to thread my way thru without conflict. Honestly this is why I retired. It was already a hostile work environment years ago. At least I am smart enough to know I probably would not have survived that fight.

Madbomb... I'm a Fed myself, DC area, 18 yrs and counting in govy, 12 years to get my 30 (looking doubtful I will last that long), but 7 more years for 25 years in and my house paid off, is more realistic... Had planned to move to Maine and buy a cabin on a lake for retirement, if America pulled its head out of its @$$... But that is starting to look more and more doubtful with too many morons in this country ready to tear the whole country down in order to get their P.O.S. in the White House... Have started looking at both Ecuador and Mexico for expat living. Have told my son, who graduates in 1.5 yrs to look towards Canada or Europe. But he will have 2 Engineering Degrees so he should be fine once he gets his foot in the door.

For the LIFE OF ME, I cannot understand people who would vote for a candidate or a party that have stated, as some of their short-term goals, to kill Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and the rest of the Social Safety Net. Do they not understand that this would destroy what's left of America?!

I took the same approach with all three kids. Way different results for each one. A lot has to do with the friends they make in school. My oldest became friends with a couple of trailer trash kids and spiraled down pretty quickly we had to get involved and there was about a year of angst over it. Then he realized he had it pretty sweet even if we didn't let him hang with that one group any more. Got into theater started drinking now is shift lead at starbucks (when he first got the job I was like oh god) he has a better 401k and health benefits than I do plus he is going to college on them so decent end result if not exceptional. Middle one was my huge nerd is a sophomore in college now and an RA smokes a ton of weed but maintains straight A's so I don't say crap about it. We'll see how it ends up but he is planing on staying in his college town this summer and getting a job there once he is done as an RA. Youngest somehow turned into a die hard conservative who doesn't drink or drug because he doesn't want to mess up his body or mind. He's kinda special in that he has an IQ in the ballpark of 160 yet somehow is actually cool and not a nerd. He scrapes by in school with C's because he can get C's without ever doing any work or frankly showing up for class. In some ways COVID has been a god send for him with all online school he can knock out the days work in 20 min. and get on with what he wants to do. His current project is an electric bike that started as a mid-range trek and now is more motorcycle than bike. He has taught himself electrical engineering, and welding as part of the process not to mention a whole lot of creative problem solving. His "bike" can go steady at 45 MPH for about 2 hours on a single charge top speed around 70 MPH but that drains the battery hard, also is insane on a bike. He's still tweaking it but has offers for 9k for it and is considering doing full time production after HS. He is also considering the army which besides being conservative may be his way of rebelling as we are a Navy family. I've said for years he'll end up a billionaire or in jail (or both).

Just seeing the different results from the same parents is wild.

Back to the thread topic. I hate to say ivory tower elitist but if the leaders of the democratic party would get down into the biomass I think any conversation of Trump winning would be a joke not a probability. They don't seem to grasp what is driving the majority of the population and are so wrapped up in this or that special interest that they are missing the forest for the trees.

If you want to make money in this country, make it yourself.

The jobs where you make money working for someone else are already slated for the insiders.

Spot-on. I feel like the DNC-HQ sees community engagement through the lens of hand selecting some regional figureheads of key demographic groups and placing them in the spotlight. Those regional leaders are glad to have a spotlight on their organization so are willing to stick to the script/offer pleasantries as critical feedback into the party.

On the other hand, the GOP became a cult of personality offering no ideas or direction for the way ahead.

In a parallel universe somewhere, this is Mitt's second term of steady, informed leadership and we're about to have an open seat election.

While I respect everything that Tao said, I still think it comes down to common sense. No one ever seems to ask perhaps the most relevant question which is does anyone see voters who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 changing their minds and voting for Donald Trump in 2020?

Does anyone here know of people who fit this category? Everyone is obsessed with voters who either voted for Trump in 2016 or perhaps voted for other candidates when in fact even with the cheating and suppression Hillary still won by nearly 3 million votes across America.

Has anyone identified groups who claim to be Clinton voters who now think that Joe Biden will be worse than what Trump has proven to be? There are 180,000 Americans dead and the numbers are growing by a 1000 everyday, yet THIS is what is attracting voters who otherwise would vote Democratic to vote for Trump?

4.4 million Black voters who voted for Obama in 2012 didn't vote for Hillary in 2016, in fact they didn't vote at all. Who thinks that these voters (calling Milwaukee, Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Minneapolis to name a few key cities) will sit out 2020 as America is literally awash in calls for racial justice and millions have taken to the streets? Now the NBA players and other prominent voices are making sure voting takes place in every NBA arena in America - and no one thinks that this will work more in Biden's favor than in Trump's?

Trump won by 77,000 votes in 3 states where he isn't polling the numbers of white suburban support that he did in 2016, so where are the voters coming from to counter what we already saw in 2018 - even as active measures to make voting more difficult are instituted from the White House?

You know what there are that didn't exist in 2016? Voters who cast ballots for Trump that now see the error of their choice as it manifested in chaos and death all across America. Biden does not have this problem. When he was VP, the nation was not in turmoil, it was ascending from the last fiasco that GOP malgovernance plunged this country into. But America is going to choose the arsonist who lit the blaze over the fireman who already successfully doused the last fire?

Most of non-Trumpian/non-right wing brainwashed Americans understand and recognize that almost all of those protesting in the streets are doing so because we don't have equal justice in America and that everything that Trump and his white supremacist cult stands for opposes these freedoms for aggrieved Americans. I still have faith - and reason - that Trump's days are numbered no matter how hard he tries to cheat. Mainly because he cannot run from the destruction of his own doing and millions of Americans are now facing evictions and food insecurity due to Trump and the GOP ignoring their concerns - which were dealt with through Democratic legislation passed way back in May that the Republicans have chosen to ignore.

Michael Moore has no special knowledge. He's just a guy who makes dumb movies. Not Nostradamus. He tries to be so prescient. Like Bill Maher, they're both hacks. Even hacks get lucky sometimes.

the factor that Moore forgets, in typical sexist fashion,
is WOMEN... WOMEN are half the vote, give or take a few
percentage points, and they HATE Trump for the most part.
So say 60-70% of the White Males are rabid Trump fans in
some of these states, I'd say 90% of that will be cancelled
out by the 60-70% of women leaning the other way... Democrats
need the MINORITIES, to show up at the polls...in numbers...

If that happens, then Trump will lose most of the battleground
states and thus the Presidency.

EARTHMUSE

Woman have more sway than Michael Moore uses in his calculations.

It's called "pillow talk."

If you get my drift.

Twinpac Last election I told my wife oh yeah I'll vote Hillary and voted Trump. Big mistake I know but pillow talk means very little. Most men aren't controlled by their wives.

I respect MM because he's down on the front lines and talks to people. However, his prediction in 2016 while right, was by the smallest of margins.

And now Trump runs on his record - and you figure he's probably going to lose more people than he picks up. Do you want four more years of this, or change. That's what this election is about.

It's a close race but I see Biden winning.

MM also is trying to motivate voters too of course.

"No one ever seems to ask perhaps the most relevant question which is does anyone see voters who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 changing their minds and voting for Donald Trump in 2020?"

Yes. My sister.

And probably lots of other people who see all the chaos, and the Democratic Party doesn't seem well poised to solve the problem. The supporters of the leftist rioters can try and promote some sort of Qanon like conspiracy theory that all the riots are actually right wing agitators, but it doesn't really pass the smell test. You've really got to embrace the suspension of disbelief to think that all of these riots have been carried out by conservatives.

What gives anyone the indication that the Repubs are any more suited to handle the current crises than the Dems?

#69 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2020-08-31 03:32 PM | Reply

And the rioters are certainly NOT solely left-wing protesters.

This is the problem with having a conversation with someone who views the circumstances as black and white.

Ever heard of anarchists and opportunists?

There are many of them on both the left and the right as well as unaffiliated.

Until the conversation is steeped in acknowledging anarchists and opportunists, it's completely useless to have one in the first place.

If anything, this is more political opportunism by the likes of MADBOMBER to paint the left in a certain way while the Left paints the right in a certain way.

Y'all are just a bunch of ------- opportunists like the rioters and looters. Well what do you know!?

All Hail Michael Moore the expert on....oh right he's not an expert he's a political gadfly who willfully engages in deception.

TOR, he is an expert ,he knows and understands people.

He told us before and we guffawed, myself included.

Well I am not guffawing anymore.

Be afraid, very afraid.

He not supernatural. He's just some guy who got lucky last time. Maybe he will again, but I doubt it. If America is stupid enough to re-elect this bozo I'm rethinking my citizenship if I can find a place to go as a refugee from dictatorship.

Effete,

It's much harder to leave now than it was pre-Trump.

Turns out that America first bs doesn't fly on the international stage.

Oy.

While I agree there probably aren't too many Hillary voters who will vote Trump this time what I see is the same apathy in Biden voters that I saw in the non-die hard Hillary voters last time and without the benefit of being "with her" it might be worse.

I know that you expect a large turn out of Black voters but I don't know that Biden really inspires them. I will bow to your deeper knowledge of the demographic than me though. Getting black turn out in PA and MI to flip those two and Biden only needs 1 more pick up to win.

I also feel that folks are over estimating how many Trump women will flip to Biden, in my area I'm just not seeing it but my area is not the whole nation.

There's definitely a lack of enthusiasm.

I just visited rural Minnesota. Not a single Biden sign and LOTS of Trump enthusiasm...all over. We were instructed not to talk politics at all, but I wasn't having that. I'm perfectly capable of having a conversation with a Trump supporter regarding why I don't support Trump.

Problem I then ran into had nothing to do with my inabilities and had everything to do with the overly passionate Trump supporters berating me as a traitor. One guy actually called be an Irish ni**er (I have red hair) enslaved on the Democrat plantation. I had all the intention of trying to understand the Trumper's mind, but the Trumper's mind had ZERO interest in understanding me. That's a major problem I have with Trumper's, so many of them seem very eager and comfortable living in an authoritarian state of mind. Well, guess what, you'll never get this recovering Catholic to return to the land of indoctrination and blasphemy. I shouldn't be shouted down and called names simply because I ask questions about Trump or why people choose to support Trump.

One guy literally told me he's voting for Trump solely to piss off liberals. I asked him how many liberals he knows and he said he wouldn't talk to a liberal even if it meant saving his own life. Whelp, that's the type of logic I was confronting in Minnesota, which I simply can't figure out. If it wasn't for the symbol of the American flag standing for freedom, I'd imagine these specific folks would be more than happy living under a monarchy. As long as that monarchy's name has an (R) next to it.

Simply disgusting.

Michael Moore gave a lengthy well reasoned explanation for Trump's victory last time. Before he "won"

But we all laughed and said "he's fat"

"What gives anyone the indication that the Repubs are any more suited to handle the current crises than the Dems?"

Trump is pushing the narrative of his being a law and order administration. That being said, I don't think that there is much he could do about what's happening in Portland without running roughshod over city and state politicians. And they've shown that they're not up to the task of handling the problem.

I think that Biden could try and push a counter-narrative by calling out the protesters and making the argument that himself and Harris would do a better job of containing the violence, he just hasn't done so yet. And if he doesn't do it soon it will be too late.

Yep.

That's why I hate the term antifa. It implies that it's an organization. It's not. There is no club president or treasurer. And they're not new. They destroyed Seattle in 1999 during the WTO protests. They took over dozens of anti-war rallies in the first decade of the 21st century.

And the one consistent quality they have is that they're all --------.

"It's much harder to leave now than it was pre-Trump."

In western Europe you probably have a better chance of getting resident status by being a refugee than you do of immigrating from another developed, non-EU country. Before you can immigrate, you need to be able to demonstrate that you can be employed, without taking a job that would have otherwise gone to one of the locals. There is always a need for low skilled workers, which is why I think the refugees are allowed in. And there is also a need for those with advanced degrees and rare skillsets.

I have a co-worker who is married to an American. He lives in the US because he cannot work in his career field in Germany. Even though he's employed by a German company and does all his training in Germany.

When Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 came out I knew some committed socialists who saw it and were mortified by how disingenuous he can be.
