Greg Weiner: President Trump's taped admission to Bob Woodward that he deliberately misled Americans about the danger of the coronavirus makes him morally culpable in the ensuing tragedy. But Mr. Trump actually forfeited the battle against the pandemic long before it erupted in Wuhan, China in the first place.

Five centuries ago, Niccol Machiavelli called this the "effectual truth": Claims that are true, he wrote in "The Prince," are so not because they correspond to objective reality but because they are politically "useful." Mr. Trump's use of skepticism as a standard for interpreting reality now risks undermining public faith in an eventual vaccine.

Early in this administration, it was reasonable to say that plausibility was the new truth: The mere existence of a believable opposing claim was sufficient to rebut a balanced assessment of the totality of evidence. But when skepticism is a whole system of thought, assertion is the new truth. A claim no longer needs to be believable. It simply needs to be made.

Right now, America is still in the middle of a figurative tornado where everything is ungrounded, airborne, and swirling at a pace that makes comprehension almost impossible. Donald Trump has not just crossed lines, he's obliterated them in ways never before seen. We no longer have undisputed facts, we have what favors Trump is always immutable truth - particularly when it comes from his own mouth - and that which disfavors him is fake news and treachery presented by disreputable scoundrels and subversives.

Heaven help this republic because it truly is teetering on the brink of an abyss from which it may never return in any semblance of how it used to be in the time before Trump.

That's like comparing a mountain to a "mole hill"

first of all.....Trump ain't got all his marbles, he's a "walking disaster"

But, most of all he's a demented "Liar in Chief"

" get the orange stain out!"

That was named after Trump's medical plan, wasn't it? Hydrochlorothiazide?

GTJR probably tried it and fell into Trump's preexisting condition exclusion. It was a trap!

Somebody should have told him he had to remove the fish from the fishbowl first.

No wonder he's so bitter.

LMAO! Nice TwinPac!

BTW - that line comes from an AmericanUnity post:
I wore this t-shirt to the main Post Office on Wednesday. One of the postmen at the counter took me all over the building to show it to his co-workers

(I own one now - lol!)

@#4 ... Yeah and who could forget you can keep your plan, you can keep your doctor..........oops, that was Obozo. ...

OK, that's one.

Now, where are the other 19,999 Obama lies that make the attempted analogy in your comment anything but laughable.

How many hundreds of thousands of Americans died because of a mistaken understanding that Obama later apologized for?

And now in Trumplandia Sir Trumpy Of Orangestain promises that if you like your virus you can keep your virus!

We will never forget 9/11

And the ones that survive will never forget the 20,000 lies that led to over 200,000 American deaths.

I posted this on another thread, but it's just as appropriate here:

Hitler wrote about his Big Lie theory in Mein Kampf: tell a lie so "colossal" that no one would believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously".

Goebbels expanded on that theory:
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

Is there any wonder that Drumpf has allied himself with the Alt-Right, Neo Nazis, White Nationalists, the Boogaloo Bois, the 3%ers and the rest of the Reichwing sewer dwellers.

But Obama wore a tan suit and used a bicycle intended for another gender!

I'm sure those instances killed millions.

The vast majority of Americans DID keep their Dr. Really, it was probably more of a question; did you Dr' want to keep you? I lost my Dr. shortly after the ACA was passed. He died of a heart attack while playing B-Ball at our local rec center. You could also keep you plan, as long as that plan remained available. Sorry your crappy plan was probably replaced by something quite a bit better, all-be-it more expensive.

I just heard Trump say (at a rally today) . . . "I will never lie to you."

That's the best one of his WHOPPERS yet.

I lost my doctor, too. But I didn't like the old fart anyway. He cared more about his billing hours than he did about his patients. Plus he had the "God Syndrome."

Thank goodness for Obamacare. I'm happy as a lark. It opened a whole new door on health care for millions of people.
