Journalist Bob Woodward opened up to CBS' News' "60 Minutes" in an interview airing Sunday on the moment in August when President Trump told him, "nothing more could have been done" on the coronavirus.

Trump has since:

- mocked social distancing
- mocked wearing masks
- ordered cutbacks on testing
- planning on ending TSA virus screenings
- altered CDC documents and guidelines
- ordered states to reopen and students back to school when not ready
- etc. etc.

If Trump actually did nothing more, the country would be better off.

@#1 ... If Trump actually did nothing more, the country would be better off. ...

You hit the nail on the head.

The problem with Pres Trump's approach was not that he did nothing.

The problem with Pres Trump's approach was that he actively joined the enemy, and helped it as it attacked and killed Americans on our home soil.

America. The land of the free. The home of the brave.

Now known as the land where Nothing Can be Done(tm).

Seems to be a common theme from today's GOP cult

If it can't be blamed elsewhere, then Nothing more could have been done

We see it here on the DR everyday

We elected a fool so we got what we apparently wanted in 2016. Why we would repeat that this year is beyond me.

It's funny. It really is.

For the past several months Trump supporters everywhere on the net have been claiming that actually Trump has done an amazingly excellent job preparing America for Covid 19 and fighting it effectively.

In one fell swoop now the new talking point is that "Nothing could have been done", to prevent it.

And I watch in disbelief as the hypocrisy, dishonesty and complete lack of self recognition goes sailing over their heads.

He should've passed it off to the CDC and let them handle it. Instead, he's gotta stick his fingers in everything in case, if it's a success, he would get credit. Now that it's a complete failure, he says it was wasn't his responsibility.

It is clear to me that Woodward should not be blamed for immediately running around yelling "Fire" after his initial conversations with Der Dotard--not to keep the matter quiet, but Woodward recognized that there was a larger, more important story to tell. That story is now about to be told, and Trump, not Wodward, is the subject of the story and the one to blame. The messenger is not to be shot...

Of course he's going to say that. He thinks he makes no mistakes.

Nothing more could have been done... therefore it's fifty Governor's fault... for not doing things... that couldn't be done...

So Much Winning!

"And I watch in disbelief as the hypocrisy, dishonesty and complete lack of self recognition goes sailing over their heads."

You're not the only one. But then I didn't understand crazy people like Jim Jones, Charles Manson, David Koresh and Marshall Applewhite either. Trump supporters defy all reason.

As for the headline: "There was nothing more than could be done."

By now we know how Trump's mind works. He certainly expected Bob Woodward's book to be a soft sell amidst all the negative books on the market. In other words Trump was trying to exploit Woodward's credibility because he knew had none of his own.

It was a rookie move. Trump thinks everybody is as dishonest as him.

Because it's better to let the country burn than let dems put out the fire.

It's better to commit yourself to a proven incompetent con man than to admit you were tricked by a proven incompetent con man. That would make you look foolish.

One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It's simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we've been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.

The man is a failure who doesn't even put forth the effort to not be a failure. You can brag on the pre-Covid economy if you want, although I'd question even that, but there's no doubt that America is in the worst shape physiologically, socially and psychologically that it has ever been. America has lost its moral grounding, its sense of purpose, and its leadership status.

And then his followers say FOUR MORE YEARS!

And the entire country would've been broke and bankrupt, moron. Thank goodness he didn't do that. Now we know that the CDC numbers were wrong. Get a life, not everything is Trump's fault.

Pffft hahahaha!

So exceptional U.S. and capitalism is, until it isn't!

Pity you have such little faith in the American spirit and the spirit of capitalism. Our entire country would have been broke and bankrupt had it not been for the actions of President Donald J. Trump.

M niece who is an FSU student has tested positive for Covid--as have her roommates and a number of sorority sisters. Apparently she panicked about it over the weekend and went to the ER where they gave her steroids and antibiotics. She is young and healthy, and I pray she will be alright. I also pray that her testing positive will be a lesson to other members of my family who aren't taking the pandemic seriously but due to their ages and pre-existing conditions should be. A little pre-testing fear and precaution might help prevent a positive test result for them and spare them the type of panic my niece has been feeling. Trump isn't helping. He says and does one thing in public while in private knowing the real truth about the virus: "This thing is a killer if it gets you. If you're the wrong person, you don't have a chance."

I'm trying as hard as I can to avoid being the "wrong person," , i.e. a victim of Trump's ignorance, irresponsibility and hell-bent on killing as many people as he can. I think the burst of power is giving him a woody.

I fear it's going to get worse if Trump get's re-elected. In fact, I'm certain of it. He's never going to stop.

If so, I'm buying a haz-mat suit. I don't care how over-reactionary I'll look when I have to leave the house.

My best to your niece. I hope it's a false alarm.

Then why do we have 4% of the world's population and 25% of the world's coronavirus?

Why did every country NOT run by trump manage it so much better?

(this is the part where you run away)

Twin,

No false positive unfortunately. My niece along with her roommates and some sorority sisters do have Covid.

"I fear it's going to get worse if Trump get's re-elected. In fact, I'm certain of it. He's never going to stop."

My fear too. If Trump manages by hook or by crook to be re-elected, we are in a heap of trouble, individually and collectively. He will be drunk with power, and with his GOP enablers backing him up, there will be no stopping him/them.
