The top communications official at the powerful cabinet department in charge of combating the coronavirus made outlandish and false claims on Sunday that career government scientists were engaging in "sedition" in their handling of the pandemic and warned that left-wing hit squads were preparing for armed insurrection after the election. Michael Caputo, 58, the assistant secretary of public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services, said without evidence that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was harboring a "resistance unit" determined to undermine President Trump.

Caputo continued his social media effort after the Facebook event, retweeting a conspiratorial post that hinted with no evidence that armed camps were being established in Washington, D.C.: "Occupants don't look like vagrants. Looks like forward basing for militant street ops," J. Michael Waller, a conservative provocateur, posted.

Caputo's comments were a thinly veiled attempt to intimidate CDC scientists into reporting what the administration wants and not what the data indicates.

The comments are also a thinly veiled call to action for Trump's brown-shirt boogaloos against scientists.

Scary stuff.

All part of laying the groundwork for the "good vs evil" battle ahead, first at the ballot box, and if that doesn't keep Trump in power, on the streets. Gotta rile the nutjob base a little more, get them ready to use their guns.

In the same vein, Trump was on Fox today
telling his supporters to believe that if the election doesn't deliver the result they want, the outcome is inherently illegitimate " that there are no democratically legitimate circumstances under which he and his supporters can lose in a fair election.
