Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, September 17, 2020

"After Trump" begins from the premise that Donald Trump operated the presidency in ways that reveal its vulnerability to dangerous excesses of authority and dangerous weaknesses in accountability. That premise is not news, though we go further than most critiques of the Trump presidency in trying to put Trump's excesses in historical context and to show how he built on and departed from prior presidential extremes.

If we are lucky, the presidency of Donald Trump will be like touching a hot stove and the country will forever learn to do certain things differently.

If we aren't lucky. People like BIZARRO make us eat sh-- will forcing his to smile at gunpoint.

I think our population needs to recognize that the problems with the Presidency and also the Senate all came from the Republican Party. If Democrats controlled the Senate Trump would not be President today. Barr would not be AG. All the IGs would still be correctly doing their jobs overseeing the various agencies.

I agree with your conclusions. However, the problems with the presidency were there thru many dem as well as repub administrations (i.e. emergency powers, failure to enforce subpoenas, etc.). It's just that it took Trump to exploit them and cowardly, impotent repub politicians to let him do it.

Yup.

I was not surprised with Pres Trump exploiting the weaknesses, but the cowardice of most of the Republicans did surprise me.

I agree with FEDUP the problems are in the powers of the President and the limits on those powers and I agree with the "After Trump" authors, we do need to have a thorough examination of our Constitution which, in my opinion, is terribly outdated and vague. We need the limits on power well thought out and clearly stated and if it takes a rewrite then that's what we have to do. We can't allow another power hungry fool like Trump to take power ever again and William Barr is a disgrace to his office and should be impeached immediately.

...is terribly outdated and vague.

Unfortunately the process to change it is one of the most outdated parts.

I am surprised that you were surprised. These politicians have been totally sold out to the billionaires that they performed exactly as I thought they would. Those people are wholly owned subsidiaries of those billionaires.

Sadly, your post is too true.

So we have one Obama era loser and one W. Bush era loser. Before they share their wisdom, maybe they can explain Fast and Furious, Obama weaponizing the FBI/CIA, corruption between Lynch and Clinton on the tarmac, enhanced interrogation, 3rd party renditions, etc.
Give me an ---- break about Trump until you clean up your own messes.

You were all for unlimited executive power when a Dem was in office. Many stated it would bite you in the ass one day, and you scoffed. Now here we are.

Yeah you shouldnt say we should prevent AIDS until we solve the common cold.

Idiot.

Trump is not political corruption on the normal scale. He is unlike anything this nation has every been stupid enough to elect before. You can't see it because you choose to get your news from liars.

Your user name perfectly sums up the delusion where you live.
