Comparing H1N1 to Covid-19 is really showing your ignorance.
I'm a virologist you dumb ----.
Yes, H1N1 did have the advantage of a vaccine pipeline that didn't require extensive FDA approval.
But monitoring was much better, a test approved and rolled into the clinic in less than a month and the vaccine approved and pushed hard within two months (IIRC). Public health and national emergencies were issued within days (a week tops for national emergency) and significant federal and state resources immediately opened to respond and provide PPE/testing/vaccines.
If you're telling me that some democrat would have implemented a full countrywide lockdown and required a mask in January, you're being quite optimistic of your democrat buddies.
Never even suggested such a thing.
They would have, however, paid attention to it, begun spinning up resources and agencies to respond when necessary and been ready to send trained, properly equipped personnel to CA when we received the first US citizen cases from China. None of that happened with Trump and there is suspicion that some of the initial seeding events in northern CA were from untrained, unprepared personnel sent to deal with the returning citizens.
Democrats in Feb and early March will still talking about visiting places like Chinatown in San Fran and have a nice dinner out in Manhattan.
Because there was no evidence at that time of community spread in the US and people were doing economic damage because they thought that simply being Chinese meant they had COVID. People were being ignorant and fearful (funny compared to now...).
I wonder if you'd be complaining about that?
Lockdowns might not have been necessary if the response early on was competent. Our response really didn't start until it was already here and then, because of the lack of federal leadership, it was piecemeal and scattered as each state did it's own thing.
As for reopening, it would have been done according to public health guidelines/advice and would have been data driven, not the willy nilly everybody open cuz 'Murica! we had under Trump that inevitably resulted in case explosions in the states run by the ignorant.
As for masks I'm willing to wear one for as long as I have to. It's such a mild inconvenience I see resistance to it as more a flag of one's idiocy and selfishness than anything else.
There's a part of me that would like Biden to win because this site will be toast. Nothing to complain about. Bad orange man gone. Good democrats doing good things with nothing to complain about.
Sure there will be. Republican obstructionism and budgetary hypocrisy will rear its ugly head once more.
There's also far more debate here and among Dems in general regarding policy ideas than in Repub circles. Probably because the Repubs don't have any ideas and you guys define what it is to be a sheep while blathering on about how everybody is a follower.
