President Donald Trump's former top Russia adviser said Tuesday that the United States is increasingly seen as "an object of pity" and its standing on the world stage is eroding.

I feel sorry for us. That's for sure.

I feel sorry for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who will have died needlessly due to the criminal negligence of this administration. And their families. The ones left behind who now have to pick up the pieces of a shattered family in a deplorable environment and carry on in the face of hateful ignorance.

And it's all thanks to Republicans and Fox News.

"that the United States is increasingly seen as "an object of pity" and its standing on the world stage is eroding."

Don't we know it!

The "world stage" might be surprised to learn that America feels the same way.

But not for the first time. We hung our head in shame after the Bush/Cheney fiasco, too, and after the Nixon boondoggle and the Reagan years. In fact, I'm sure the "world stage" has noticed it happens every time the United States elects a Republican president.

Fortunately, we have people like Barack Obama and Joe Biden who arrive in the nick of time to put the pieces back together. It seems like the United States always needs a Democrat to dig us out of one ditch after another.

But Trump sees this as a win for his side. The problem is determining who exactly is on his side. And it's not the people who voted for him in 2016 nor even the billionaires who he has so generously rewarded with his tax and fiscal policies. No, it's his real mentor, Putin, who has used and wants to continue to use Trump to help dismantle of the various Western alliances, and one way to accomplish that is to have the influence of the United States diminished and reduced to a point where the other nations of the world can no longer depend or even respect the US. Putin's return on his small investment is paying off many times over and all he needs is another four years to finish the job.

They call me Mr. Pitiful
This, everybody know now
They call me Mr. Pitiful most every place I go
But nobody seems to understand now
How can a man sing such a sad song, now
Ooh, when he lost everything, when he lost everything that he had
--"Mr. Pitiful", Otis Redding
