Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency warned the public Tuesday that foreign actors might spread disinformation about the results of the 2020 election and encouraged voters to be patient with delayed results. "The increased use of mail-in ballots due to COVID-19 protocols could leave officials with incomplete results on election night," the agencies said in a statement, highlighting the possibility that "foreign actors and cybercriminals" could use disinformation to "exploit the time required to certify and announce elections' results."

The statement released Tuesday advised Americans to get information from "trustworthy sources" like official government election websites. The warning also said that Americans, when dealing with reports of problems with voting or results, should "verify though multiple reliable sources" and think twice before sharing unverified material on social media.

The agencies specifically said foreign actors might try to confuse voters by creating and spreading disinformation about "voter suppression, cyberattacks targeting election infrastructure, voter or ballot fraud" after the polls close.

Am I the only one thinking that the FBI's most recent code name for Donald Trump has to be Foreign Actor?

Bur seriously, this is HUGE! The FBI just basically just issued a public service announcement that says

Hey America, everything that Donald Trump says about the election and its integrity that sounds just like the same thing the Russians are saying publicly in their media, well all of it is bovine excrement. All. Of. It. Don't trust a word that you hear in this regard.
Chris Wray must have his desk packed already, but we owe him a debt of gratitude for letting this bulletin see the light of day.

It is amazing that the FBI has to warn Americans about what their own President is openly trying to do when the facts of the matter are completely different. Our election systems at the voter level are as secure as to be expected based on each type of voting method and protocols.

No one ever seems to ask where are all these rabid partisans who'd risk jail for the sake of a handful of votes? If there were any large conspiracies there would be evidence of their existence. There aren't any because none of any appreciable scale exist especially on a statewide or national level. The FBI knows this and that is precisely what this bulletin was written to say without saying it directly.

"where are all these rabid partisans who'd risk jail for the sake of a handful of votes?"

Exactly. Even the concept is insane. Who TF is going to go to all the trouble in CA, NY, WY, MS, AL, or the other 30+ states where the result is a foregone conclusion? $10K and a year in jail per fraudulent vote? And in SD or OR, where their fraud would have all the force of a fart in a windstorm?!? Get TF out of here.

"Bur seriously, this is HUGE!"

It is. We are in for the fight of our lives. Democrats could win in a landslide and still not win if Trump, Russia and the GOP have anything to say about it, and they will:

Asha Rangappa @AshaRangappa_

Also, while the FBI PSA highlights "foreign actors," it goes without saying that domestic actors can and will manipulate this window as well. @BarbMcQuade notes that the AG himself has already shown a willingness to do so

Barr can make the Justice Department help Trump in election disputes. Here's how.

By Foreign Actors, they mean Trump, Hannity, and their ilk.

One thing just hit me like a ton of bricks. Has anyone really thought out what Trump's assertions would mean for the thousands upon thousands of other races and issue elections being conducted along with the presidential election?

If Trump says certain ballots shouldn't be counted, then those ballots cannot be counted for all the other elections they represent. There is no way in hell everyone else on all these ballots is going to let Trump's ego invalidate their own election results when there will be absolutely no evidence of anything being wrong or corrupted but for Trump's baseless assertions.

I just can't see any state legislature have their own races thrown into dispute because of Trump when everyone knows nothing was wrong with the balloting.

Trump thinks his race is the only one on the ballot. He's soon going to find out a lot of Republican candidates and Democrats too aren't going to buy his phony cries of fraudulent ballots because it undermines the results of their own races at the same time.

Trump is counting on a recently "stacked" U.S. Supreme Court to make that "assertion" for him.

I hope they're watching this thing play out on TV. Trump is raving like a madman about all the things he's going to do.

Tony, the ballots that ------- is trying to invalidate are mail in ballots, which will skew (massively) blue. So even in down ticket races this will benefit republicans.

The prize winner for 'best disinformation mouthpiece' will go to Trump. He started months ago.

Are Trump "conservatives" just fine with his already questioning the results if they aren't what he wants?

Seems so. They don't possess actual moral values.

a timely article, for those that still read...

An election doesn't have to be hacked (and votes changed), to be manipulated. Wouldn't surprise me if in late October, there's a video released online claiming that the early votes/absentee ballots have been corrupted. If it gets traction then the resulting apathy/loss of faith in the election infrastructure would have a larger effect than a hypothetical endpoint vote switching in a vote precinct of 500 people.

Information operations.
