I'm not guaranteeing anything but yes, I think he will. Lawyers would have to be convinced he's been robbed somewhere in order for him to not concede the election.

You know, it's really sad it's going to come down to it in the same swing states he won narrowly last time.

It's going to be close.....but it never should have been.

#6 | Posted by eberly at 2020-09-24 08:26 AM | Reply

Well, eb, you are wrong
What has he done in the past 5 years that would indicate to you he would concede, ever?
I think you are seriously misreading the man
Take his personality in conjunction with all his actions related to mail in voting and republicans laying the groundwork for voter fraud allegations and I think it is more than likely that the election is contested and if it is then all bets are off

Maybe I am whistling past the grave yard, but I have enough faith in the American people and the judicial system that gives me faith that Biden will win. With that faith, this election could be the election that STRENGTHENED America because it will highlight the structural fault lines that threaten our democracy; the lines that Trump and bad faith repubs were able to exploit.

The HOR is working on a bill that will fix some of those structural problems. However, from what I have heard of the bill, much, much more work needs to be done to prevent another POTUS from ever abusing his/her power in the way that Trump has.

The most likely scenario is that election night results show Trump with a lead, but with millions of absentee ballots left to be counted. He then screams about the election being "stolen" from him despite the fact that it always takes weeks for states to certify their results, and files lawsuits everywhere to stop legitimately cast votes from being counted.

According to the experts here, you are whistling past the graveyard.

Funny, this is exactly how I feel but I get my ankles get snipped at for saying so.

I'm a deplorable ruining this country. LOL

You get ignored.

Ahh...now I get the difference.

"He then screams about the election being "stolen" from him despite the fact that it always takes weeks for states to certify their results, and files lawsuits everywhere to stop legitimately cast votes from being counted."

that theory flies in the fact of almost everything Trump is historically notorious for.

With the exception of the USFL thing.....he's not one to be wronged and then takes folks to court so much as he commits the wrong and is perfectly fine with being sued by everyone. Perhaps that's a lesson Trump learned because he lost on all of that.

Filing lawsuits challenging an election after he loses doesn't sound one bit like Trump.

Sabotaging an election to win, then waiting for the opponent to sue challenging the results?? That's more like Trump's style. What I predict is that Trump has already put a plan into place to thwart results.

I just don't see Trump crying in front of us over the results and crying foul with lawyers.....but I'm not guaranteeing that...this is just me thinking out loud. I suspect he's going to cheat his ass off to win and force Biden to call the lawyers and do the crying.

Did you even read the article?

It should have scared the crap out of you. If you truly are an American.

Instead you are acting like we are overreacting and it could never happen.

We thought a Trumpy could never happen too

You see we did not overreact to Trumpy in the beginning of this whole mess and that is what got us here in the first place.

So f you and the mealy mouthed horse you rode in on.

No, I think Fed is whistling past the graveyard, but Fed doesn't have a history of intentionally obtuse and willfully ignorant comments downplaying every atrocity Trump commits.

I, on the other hand, am very attuned to evidence. Despite your pathetic attempts to blame it on people's emotions as opposed to what is being done right in front of your blinded eyes.

It's very obvious the words coming out of his mouth and his spokespeople are saying about "ballots," what he intends to do.

You are underreacting as usual. And nobody aside from Susan Collins has stuck their head in the (ass) ground to avoid seeing the obvious.

Now if you want to play reverse psychology and say since he lies every time he opens his mouth so he's lying about not leaving peacefully, but his followers believe his lie so we get to have lots of violence anyway.

This is about PEOPLE and SYSTEMS and FUNDEMENTAL RULES OF GOVERNING that are being hurt, not feelings.

So.... Eberly.

If I slept with your wife and smacked your kids around right in front of your face (say I was able to handcuff you to a chair), you would probably get "angry." Your emotions are what would drive your reaction, not the evidence of what I just did right in front of your face right?

If I also pointed a gun at you and pulled the safety, you would probably be scared. I bet you would be all emotional about it and get all scaredy.

Me to your family = Trump to my Country.

I bet Breonna Taylor's family is pretty angry too. They probably shouldn't act all emotional, it's probably going to pass just fine.

And we still have idiots saying Hitler was a socialist.

I genuinely don't understand why some people work so hard at learning and defending lies and revisionist histories that are so obviously untrue. Yet here we are. The ground work to call in question the entire premise of voting has been laid and building on that foundation of lies continues.

#32 | Posted by YAV at 2020-09-24 01:25 PM | Reply

that theory flies in the fact of almost everything Trump is historically notorious for.

No it isn't. Maybe you need to read my post again. Manufacturing an alternate reality in which he actually did win and it's being stolen from him by counting lawfully cast ballots is as Trump as anything.

Filing lawsuits challenging an election after he loses doesn't sound one bit like Trump.

Aside from how detached from reality that sentence is, that wasn't even my point. The point is that since Republicans are more likely to vote in person and Democrats more likely to vote by mail, the 11/3 returns might actually show Trump in the lead, with millions of ballots left to count, and at that point he will begin manufacturing uncertainty by inventing claims of the election being stolen from him while ballots are counted and start filing lawsuits to stop the counting.

Which, BTW, is what I am experiencing, and you are experiencing and everyone else is experiencing. WE can have different interpretations of what we see, but we wouldn't be having different interpretations of the things you used as examples.

If Donner is angry and scared....fine.

Your response to Trump saying he's not planning on stepping down should Biden win, is to accuse everyone else of overreacting and claiming this happened in 2008.

Stop trying to normalize Trump.

This is abnormal. This has never happened in the past.

This is why people accuse you of supporting Trump. Or being a deplorable.

Joe/Rsty ,

I completely understand where both of you are coming from.

The article makes a critical assumption.

If Trump contests the election in the event he loses, that will be messy. That is the premise of the article. The worst case scenario is Trump contesting the election and using the power of his office to make it very very ugly.

Here's where I simply reject one assumption ... In order for Trump to do this successfully, he will require the cooperation of the republican party and many in the leadership.

If the initial results point to a Trump loss, I don't think he will get the cooperation of the Republican Party.

That's a prediction and nothing more.

On all counts, I hope I'm wrong. First of all, I hope Biden wins in a landslide. Second, Trump goes away quickly. Third, the open Supreme Court seat is filled by president Biden's choice.

That being said, I thought the Republicans would have brought witnesses and actually held a trial in regards to the blatantly illegal actions Trump took with regards to Ukraine but they didnt. Expecting more of them when Trump is voted out of office but contests the results to remain in power I think is stretching it. I dont put it past McConnell to hold on to a GOP POTUS with both hands under any circumstance they can contrive.

Here's where I simply reject one assumption ... In order for Trump to do this successfully, he will require the cooperation of the republican party and many in the leadership.

Are you suggesting the Republican party has not fell right in line with Trump in the past?

If the initial results point to a Trump loss, I don't think he will get the cooperation of the Republican Party.
#94 | POSTED BY EBERLY

It's a safe presumption to make that on election night, it will either be very close or Trump will have a lead until mail-in votes are all counted. Should that happen, your scenario is bust and all hell breaks loose, as the article implies.

I'm having a hard time believing you don't think the Republican leadership will do anything in their power to avoid a Biden presidency, which includes going all in on Trump and everything else that entails. For many of those in the Republican leadership, that SCOTUS seat in and of itself is worth following Trump over the cliff.

Remember, EBERLY, for many of those folks, it's ONLY about the millions and millions and millions of unborn babies that have already been or will be 'murdered.'

Pathetic, but true.

If the initial results point to a Trump loss, I don't think he will get the cooperation of the Republican Party.

The Republican Party has cooperated with everything Trump has done, from day one.

If it comes to having another 4 years, where he possibly gets another few SC justices, versus letting Joe if Biden be President, you have no basis for thinking they won't at minimum stand by and watch Trump try his best.

#107 | Posted by JOE at 2020-09-24 03:59 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

And he's basing that assessment on a single variable: "In order for Trump to do this successfully, he will require the cooperation of the republican party and many in the leadership" which he doesn't perceive as probable.

He's accusing the author of making this assumption in order formulate his conclusion. That's such a safe assumption to be made, it should be considered a presumption. Hence, even to EBERLY's argument, the article is more than likely accurate.

Abortions were at an all time low during Obama's presidency.

Sexual education has helped a lot of people avoid getting pregnant. Same with the increased use and availability of contraceptives.

Unfortunately. Pro life people also tend to believe ignorance of sex is best and in abstinence until marriage. Which leads to accidental pregnancies, which need to be aborted.

There will be no Trump election loss.

The Department of Justice works for Trump.

Vladimir Putin owns Trump.
Why is he hiding his taxes?

The Republicans refused to hear any witnesses in the Trump impeachment trial.

The Supreme Court will be stacked to rule for Trump.

The mail sorting machines have been massively reduced in Post Offices

The Postmaster General works for Trump.

Voting ballot boxes have been removed.

The head of the Department of Homeland Security is a Trump man.

The Attorneys General's work for Trump.

Hundreds of Judges are beholden to Trump.

The voting machines are possibly hacked by Russia or manipulated by Trump supporting Corporations and banks.

Donald Trump is not talking like a man about to lose an election.

He is telling you what is about to happen.

If you were standing between two railroad tracks at night and you saw one bright light coming towards you with a very loud horn behind it, what would you think? There's a train coming soon.

That's a very good list.

I would like to add a few important recent developments to your list for the record as we get closer to the election of the century. And I challenge anyone to dispute these facts.

1. Trump has praised violence against journalists
2. Trump has called for "able bodied" election (goon) squads
3. STILL dismissing Russian attacks on our elections
4. Trump campaign is pushing doctored videos as REAL.
5. Claims he can override the FDA on vaccines
6. Grades his own response to the virus crisis as an A+ as 205,000 American deaths (and increasing by ~800 daily)
7. Is STILL contradicting the CDC
