Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he is lifting all restrictions on businesses statewide that were imposed to control the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. Most significantly, that means restaurants and bars in the state can now operate at full capacity.

Bars reopen in South Florida after DeSantis vows coronavirus closures are over. Some call it a political gamble.

...DeSantis expressed confidence that the worst was behind Florida and that there is minimal risk that allowing full restaurant capacities and ramping up tourism would result in higher infection rates and hospitalizations.

The governor says he hopes the Super Bowl, scheduled for Feb. 7 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, will be packed with fans.

"I also want to be able to show we're going to be able to host the Super Bowl in February," DeSantis said Friday. "We expect to do a full Super Bowl."...

"We're not closing anything going forward," he said. "Rather than trying to close things, what you want to do is have an age-specific strategy that really focuses on mitigating exposures and mitigating infections from the people who are most at risk for this."...

"DeSantis vows coronavirus closures are over."

The GOP is a Death Cult.

This seems excessive just to declare Trump won Florida...

If thousands die as a result of this decision. Trump may not win Florida. This is the most wrongheaded decision I've seen in a while.

Why do Republicans hate local control so much? Why the banning of local fines and ordinances?

I thought Republicans were against central authority, what a joke that is. They never fail to impose top down edicts on everyone, unless they're looking to evade responsibility.

If this goes bad,Desantis will be looking for a way to blame municipalities for the problems.

Count on it

"I thought Republicans were against central authority"

Today's Republicans are the party of Trump: 100% Transactional. As we've seen with the SCOTUS nominations, they will say anything, and do anything to get and hold on to power. NOTHING they say is based on actual beliefs.

For further proof, visit the fastest growing cemetery in the universe: the one where GOP talking points go to die. Buried there, you'll see Family Values, Debt Ceilings, Balanced Budgets, Respect for Precedent, Anti-Communism, Respect for the Military, Honoring War Dead, and an entire section where the Fiscal Responsibility family is buried.

There's also an indoor wing, where they have an enormous collection of current Republicans' spines.

That's the republican party I walked away from when Dimwit '43 invaded Iraq. What you posted was one of the best I've read in a long time.

DeSantis wants to be #1 and views COVID deaths as his chance.

My missus and I went out to the end of Key West, saw Steinbeck's former home ten or twelve years ago, and called it a day, so I was planning on never going to Florida again, and now my attitude has been re-enforced by the Governor of that doomed state.

This is all just a ploy to invalidate votes.

On November 3rd or 4th Trump will declare that all these mail in ballots should be tossed and that in person voting should be tossed.

The supreme court will appoint him 4 more years and this country's decline will hasten.

Where's all the republicans to defend this action?

Where's all the republicans to defend this action?

They're in triage on the "Trump is broke" thread.
