Seth Masket: Republicans get fewer votes, but they're about to lock down the Supreme Court. Before the end of the year, Amy Coney Barrett will probably be sworn in as a Supreme Court justice--and she may serve for decades. She will have been appointed by an impeached president who lost the popular vote in 2016 ... . She will almost certainly be approved by senators representing less than 45 percent of the American population.

It's even more dangerous when people who call themselves "Journalists" spread misinformation and their editors allow this kind of stupid ---- to be published.

The "Impeachment" was ridiculous, baseless political theatre to occupy air time between "Russia" and "#StayHomeSaveLives".

A marginal plurality of the "popular vote" means ------- in a Constitutional Republic designed to temper instantaneous and radical shifts in power.

Little Seth Masket probably need to shift his focus inward and begin addressing the act that his preferred political party, the Democrats, have become the largest hate group since the resurgence of the Klan in the early 20th Century. Seth and the little white urban ------- he drinks coffee with every day probably don't see it that way, but the rest of us do.

And the quicker Seth swallows his pride like he can swallow his $10 latte, the quicker Seth is gonna figure out how to navigate his way forward and write about it in a meaningful way.

Little Seth Masket sums it up neatly with this one sentence from his article:

It is entirely permissible under the Constitution, and it is dangerous.

That's right, Little Seth.

The Constitution was written by men much smarter than you.

Because even back then, they understood the concept of little pencil-necked tyrants throwing temper tantrums because all the stupid people won't do what's best for them.

People like you are as old as humanity itself.

Mao, based on your Pinochet praise for "magic helicopter rides" and the Proud Boys wearing shirts praising Pinochet, is it correct to assume you're a Proud Boy? It fits perfectly. Makes total sense. Just curious about it.

Yav,

This is off-topic, no? But...

Globally, attempted implementations of Communism resulted in about 120 million deaths in the 20th Century.

It is not enough to be passively not Communist.

We must be actively anti-Communist.

Throwing Communists out of helicopters is a good thing. I promise.

As far as the "Proud Boys" or whatever entity you people have over-magnified in your minds in an attempt to create and isolate something as a boogey-man, I guess I haven't paid my dues because my Pay-Pal account is de-activated. I never got a card.

Nobody is a ------- Communist besides you MAO

And you are disgusting filth to say throwing people out of helicopters is a good thing based on political ideology.

You are a horrible human being.

"Globally, attempted implementations of Communism resulted in about 120 million deaths in the 20th Century."

That works out to about one point two million a year.

COVID-19 has already killed a million people globally and the year isn't even over yet.

Aaaand you think Trump has done a good job protecting us from Communism. I mean COVID-19.

The Senate is redundant, why does it exist? A single legislative body could get more done and be more representative of the people. What does the Senate do? What does it bring to our republic? Is it a way to temper the rash judgements of the "little people,"? I know the framers feared the "mob". Originally the Senate was elected by the state legislative bodies.

This is as elitist and undemocratic as it gets
That was thankfully jettisoned. But why was the Senate itself retained? It just thwarts the will of the electorate and gives small states disproportionate power over the rest.

I think it should be abolished altogether.

"China Virus," says Trump.

China has had a TOTAL of just over 85,000 cases and 4000 deaths.

We've had over 7,000,000 cases and over 200,000 deaths.

This article is an argument against the concept of a constitutional republic.

It's the United States of America, not the State of America.

"This article is an argument against the concept of a constitutional republic."

Nonsense. It's an article about permanent minority rule not being good in the long run.

2/3rd of the national GDP comes from districts which voted for HRC. In general Blue states pay more than they get back from the Feds, while Red states get more from the Feds than they pay. www.baltimoresun.com

In NC and WI, Dems got the majority of the votes, yet don't control the legislature. In fact, in WI, Dems could get 75% of the votes, and still not control the state legislature.

None of these things are good for the long-term health of a representative Republic.

Direct democracy, we have the technology to make it work, every man a senator. Every woman too. Think about it. Direct referendums about everything the government does voted for by everybody. I like it.

No more -------- feeding at the lobbyist trough. No more lobby's at all just people voting online like American idol.

That's what I'm Talking About.

Oh for the love of turds. Why are Dems making it so easy? It's very easy to save links now. When the Dems have full power, just keep this link in mind because they won't have any problems with it like they haven't had in the past.

And the whole "minority" crap is so played out. Dems act like 90% of America voted for Hillary. It's QUITE clear that America is divided down the middle. If an election comes down to 55-45 or very close to it, there is no minority. There are two sides that are equally represented. I fully understand that when it happens to Dems, Reps will get just as butthurt as Dems are today. But for Dems to try to make it out to be like the country is mostly one side or the other because they didn't win is completely false and just stupid.

#21 | Posted by humtake at 2020-09-28 12:13 PM | Reply

"There are two sides that are equally represented."

Not really:

"She will almost certainly be approved by senators representing less than 45 percent of the American population.

The tendency toward minority rule in the United States, present since the founding, has become more acute. That's certainly true in the Senate: California has 68 times as many residents that Wyoming has, but the same number of senators. The disparity in population size between the biggest and smallest states is far greater than anything the founders knew."

Mao implied in the first post that the democrats knew there was a pandemic coming.

If they can foretell the future like that why are they the minority.

When you get rid of clowns like these I'll come back.

Until then good luck.

"That's what I'm Talking About."

Well, sir, you can try and convene a constitutional convention and create a new constitution that allows for direct democracy, but the current federalist system is intended to protect the sovereignty of the state. What you seem to be describing is a system where the United States of American is just the state of America.

And even then, be careful what you ask for. It sounds a lot like majority rule to me. It's entirely possible you'd find yourself on the minority side of the line at least once, and you might not like the outcome.

#24 | Posted by madbomber at 2020-09-28 02:23 PM | Reply

"Nonsense. It's an article about permanent minority rule not being good in the long run."

That's been a possibility in this country since it's inception due to it's design. I agree with you, but I don't think that the founders ever intended for the Federal Government to have the amount of concentrated power that it does. Which was the purpose of the tenth amendment.

I don't know about you, but I think that the Trump presidency (among others) is a great example of why the powers of the presidency and the federal government should be stripped and returned to the states, who are in a better position to manage the needs of the residents of those states. Louisiana has a different set of concerns than North Dakota. There is not a one-size-fits-all solution for all of them.

There's nothing for you to go back to.

Well, except tax cuts for the rich, and privatization at the expense of the poor.

For most Republicans, that's all they ver really cared about anyway: Money.

VAmy Coney Barrett us getting ready to try and fill the shoes of RBG. She never will and will never be very respected as a Justice. She's a right wing hack who doesn't understand what rights are, she prefers to allow her religion to dictate things like that. She will eventually be hated by most of the American people like a female version of Clarence Thomas.

his preferred political party, the Democrats, have become the largest hate group since the resurgence of the Klan in the early 20th Century.

Facts disagree with you.

"Right-wing attacks and plots account for the majority of all terrorist incidents in the United States since 1994, and the total number of right-wing attacks and plots has grown significantly during the past six years. Right-wing extremists perpetrated two thirds of the attacks and plots in the United States in 2019 and over 90 percent between January 1 and May 8, 2020"
