Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

3.5 million Black Americans were profiled and categorised as "Deterrence" by Trump campaign -- voters they wanted to stay home on election day. Channel 4 News has exclusively obtained a vast cache of data used by Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign on almost 200 million American voters.

In 16 key battleground states, millions of Americans were separated by an algorithm into one of eight categories, also described as audiences', so they could then be targeted with tailored ads on Facebook and other platforms.

One of the categories was named Deterrence', which was later described publicly by Trump's chief data scientist as containing people that the campaign "hope don't show up to vote".

Analysis by Channel 4 News shows Black Americans " historically a community targeted with voter suppression tactics " were disproportionately marked Deterrence' by the 2016 campaign.

In total, 3.5 million Black Americans were marked Deterrence'.

The 2016 campaign preceded the first fall in Black turnout in 20 years and allowed Donald Trump to take shock victories in key states like Wisconsin and Michigan by wafer-thin margins, reaching the White House despite losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton.

Trump's digital campaign, called Project Alamo' and based in San Antonio, Texas, involved a team from the now defunct British company Cambridge Analytica, working with a team from the Republican National Committee. Two senior members of the Cambridge Analytica team are working on the Trump 2020 campaign.

Cambridge Analytica collapsed after investigations by Channel 4 News, The Guardian and the New York Times in 2018.

Cambridge Analytica was headed by Brad Pascale who suddenly had a mental health crisis yesterday and is now in custody under the Baker Act.
Brad Parscale, the campaign's 2016 digital director told PBS Frontline: "I would say I'm nearly 100 percent sure we did not run any campaigns that targeted even African Americans."

But Channel 4 News has uncovered evidence that the campaign did target Black voters with negative ads designed to crush Hillary Clinton's turnout.

The Trump campaign spent 44 million on Facebook ads alone during 2016, posting almost six million different versions of highly targeted messages that were pumped directly into the feeds of target voters across America, helped by a Facebook employee embedded within the Trump campaign.

But many of the ads were so called dark posts', which could vanish from recipients' feeds once a campaign stopped paying for them.

It means no complete public record exists of the ads posted on Facebook during the 2016 campaign or the audience lists used to target voters. The platform offered no Ad Library' at the time.

All the chickens are coming home to roost as it regards the breadth of Trump's perfidious actions and treachery. Just in time.

I had always thought the goal of politicians was to get more people to vote, because then it would be possible to get more votes.

I had always thought the goal of politicians was to get more people to vote,

Not when the majority of voters don't support them.

In those situations you need to do anything you can to prevent people from voting.

Which has been Trump's strategy since May.

"Which has been Trump's strategy since May."

And the Republicans' strategy for a lot longer.

"P.S. For those still not understanding the Russia/Trump/Cambridge Analytica connection, we know the Trump campaign handed internal data to Russian intelligence, which targeted voters.

The precise details of the conspiracy are not yet public. The treason is, however, obvious."

For those who don't see the picture being made by all the individual pieces falling into place, here's a primer.

Remember Paul Manafort passing polling data to his Russian intelligence contact? This information is the very type needed for the microtargeting of specific voters in specific places which Cambridge Analytica executed through Facebook.

Remember the Trump Tower servers that only pinged with Russian banks - servers that were owned by a company of the DeVoses? This was likely the way for transferring the targeting algorithms and such back from Russian intelligence to campaign sources in the US.

Remember Trump's campaign spending the final weekend of 2016 in Michigan when no one else even thought that Michigan was in play?

While many still think that Hillary's inability to secure white swing voters in MI, WI, and PA was her downfall, the precipitous drop off of Black voter participation in those same states' major cities (Milwaukee, Detroit, Philadelphia) more than would have made up the 78,000 votes that cost her the election.

And all of this is interconnected in the disclosures done by this British tv station's investigative journalists today.

NW, TR.

Of course, Trump's lemmings here will call that, "smart"... like paying hush money or cheating on his taxes.

Really doesn't matter to them at all.

"Read Christopher Wylie's "Mindf*ck" about Cambridge Analytica. The Trump campaign (and the Russians) have been engaged in exactly this. Voter suppression of minorities, and finding new voters on the right from radical and conspiratorial groups."

Heck, that's been the strategy of the Republican Party ever since the 'Voting Rights Act' was passed in 1965.

Suppressing and stealing the black vote has always been a GOP gameplan.

Move voting machines from urban areas.

Close polling places in cities.

Distribute flyers saying election day was moved to Wednesday in minority neighborhoods.

Poll taxes.

Count the jelly beans.

Making people pay for voter ID.

Purging people because their name sounds black.

When you can't win...cheat.

Just wait till Nov 3rd. I expect nothing less than armed "militia" in urban areas harassing black voters.

I had always thought the goal of politicians was to get more people to vote,

When your message appeals to 1/3 of the voters you have to do what you can to win.

Adopting policies and working for all Americans is too hard.

Omg Dems are ridiculously bad at math. 3.5 million black voters is not a conspiracy. That's a VERY acceptable percentage of the group that the Reps knew would have voted for Dems so OF COURSE they are labelled as deterrence. Do you think Dems are trying to help black Reps from voting? Oh, forgot, Libs live in their own reality. 3.5 million is a very low number. Just remember that in 2008 the Dems slashed the tires of a Rep gathering place so they couldn't take the buses to the voting booth. Happens every election. To claim otherwise is to prove your incompetence.

Actually it was 2004 and the punks were caught, charged and served six months in jail, so justice was done.
