Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, September 29, 2020

This is how it happens. Precisely what you're feeling now. The numbing litany of bad news. The ever rising outrages. People suffering, dying, and protesting all around you, while you think about dinner. If you're trying to carry on while people around you die, your society is not collapsing. It's already fallen down.

I found this compelling, though the premise can be argued.
The self-reflection in this retrospective can be a call to awareness, or a call to what is at stake.

When would you know?

Trump's goal, or rather Putin's goal, is to make America a failed state.

I don't think Putin realized how easy it would be.

America's decline creates some real problems for the rest of the modern world.

"If you're waiting for a moment where you're like "this is it," I'm telling you, it never comes. Nobody comes on TV and says "things are officially bad." ...

Collapse is just a series of ordinary days in between extraordinary --------, most of it happening to someone else. That's all it is."

Is it fait au complet?

"When would you know?"

Maybe when the powers-that-be hand out the equivalent of a year's worth of tax revenue as pandemic balm, without cancelling the massive tax giveaway they just passed.

#5 - scary observation, Danforth.

What is the prognosis post-falling down? Is that a reference to tipping over the edge? Meaning, there is no rectification or resurrection?

That is a complicated question, Rsty.

Certainly Sri Lanka's civil war went on from 1983-2009. It's beautiful now.
We had our own Civil War. We had rough times, and grew and worked on perfecting our Union. For a while.

I suppose the answer to your question depends on us.

Ask me again when we know who will be President for the next four years.

Republicans have made sure we are no longer the world leader.

Our economy is in tatters.

New jobs are low pay, low skill.

Our debt is insane.

Our schools are falling apart.

Our infrastructure has fallen apart.

Republican Government can't accomplish the most simple tasks.

But we have our military...that we really can't and don't use.

Syco,

We're still experiencing PPE shortages half a year into this pandemic since all our factories have moved elsewhere.

GM made some ventilators but our actual capacity to produce (or lack thereof) has been highlighted by this outbreak.

He-Yump!

Yet during WWII, we built 16 B-17s per day in just one plant.

How far the mighty have fallen.

There's a U.S. manufacturer I read about a few months ago with multiple dormant production lines that could have made several million masks a year, but the CEO couldn't get anyone from the WH to respond.

Very much this!

Imainge if when we were coming out of the Great Recession, someone told that in a few years:

Q2 GDP would drop 38% vs Q2 prior year.
Unemployment claims would number in the millions for weeks... and months.
Unemployment checks would be more-than-doubled with an extra $600 a week from the Feds for a quarter, with lesser additional relief ongoing.

You would say: We must have never really recovered.

Don't rule out that Vladimir Putin has a lot of uses for the U.S. military ~~ compliments of the American taxpayer and Donald Trump second term in office.

Russia's expansion plans are on the drawing board ~ waiting.

It would appear that the Republican Party doesn't want to hurt Mr. Putin's feelings.
