Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, October 02, 2020

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus just days after one of his closest advisers who also had COVID-19 traveled with him aboard Air Force One. At 5:30 p.m. Eastern, the presidential helicopter Marine One landed on the White House lawn to fly the president to Walter Reed Hospital.

Speaking of what might happen next, the DOW futures just dropped 500+ points.

WALLACE

Gentlemen, we're going to go on to another subject. You have begun to increasingly question the effectiveness of masks as a disease preventer, and in fact recently you have cited the, the issue of waiters touching their masks and touching plates. Are you questioning the effectiveness of masks?

TRUMP

No, you have to understand -- if you look, I mean, I have a mask right here. I put the mask on it, you know what I think I need it. As an example, everybody's had a test, and you've had social distancing and all of the things that you have to, but I wear a mask, when needed -- when needed, I wear masks. I don't -- I don't wear masks like him. Every time you see him, he's got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from me, and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen.

29:51 WALLACE

Vice President Biden, go ahead, sir.

BIDEN

Look, the way to open businesses is give them the wherewithal to be able to open. We provided money --

WALLACE

I was asking, sir, about masks.

BIDEN

Oh. Masks -- masks make a big difference. His own head of the CDC said if we just wore masks between now -- if everybody wore masks and social distancing between now and January, we'd probably save up to 100,000 lives. It matters,

TRUMP

And they've also said the opposite. They've also said the --

BIDEN

No serious person has said the opposite --

TRUMP

What about Dr. Fauci? Dr. Fauci said the opposite.

BIDEN

He did not say the opposite.

30:27 TRUMP

He said very strongly: Masks are not good. Then he changed his mind. He's admitted -- I'm ok with masks.

WALLACE

I want to talk about one last subject, because your different approaches have even affected the way that you have campaigned. President Trump, you're holding the large rallies, with crowds packed together thousands of people.

30:44 TRUMP

Outside.

WALLACE

Outside. Yes, sir. Great. Vice President Biden, you are holding much smaller events with --

TRUMP

Cause nobody will show up.

WALLACE.

People with --

TRUMP

Nobody shows up to his rallies.

WALLACE

In any case, why you're holding the big rallies, why you're not. You goes first, sir.

31:00 TRUMP

Because people want to hear what I have to say, I mean, 25, 35,000 people show up at airports. We use airports.

WALLACE

Are you not worried about the disease, though, sir.

31:13 TRUMP

Well, so far we have had no problem whatsoever. It's outside -- that's a big difference according to the experts. And we do them outside, we have tremendous crowds, as you see. I mean every -- and literally on 24 hours notice -- and Joe does the circles and has three people some place.

BIDEN

By the way, did you see, one of the last reboot rallies he had -- a reporter came up to him to ask him a question, he said, No no no. Stand back. Put on your mask, put on a mask. Have you been tested? I'm way, way far away from those other people.' That's what he said. I can't, I'm gonna be okay. He not worried about you. He's not worried about the people out there --

TRUMP

We had no negative, no negative effect. We've had no negative effect, and we've had, 35 40,000, people at some of these rallies.

WALLACE

Just finish off because I want to move on to our next --

BIDEN

Yes, I would. He's been totally irresponsible the way in which he has handled the social distancing, and people wearing masks, basically encouraged them not to. And he's a fool on that.

TRUMP

If you could get the crowds, you would've done the same thing, but you can't -- nobody cares, nobody cares.

Wow. Godspeed to the many innocents, including the Bidens. Godspeed to Hicks and the Trumps as well, but I won't pretend I feel sorry for them. As Joe pointed out, "He's been totally irresponsible the way in which he has handled the social distancing, and people wearing masks, basically encouraged them not to. And he's a fool on that."

I have to say though that I wonder if Hope Hicks and the Trumps actually have the virus. Pretending to is a good way to get out of future debates, could be a ploy for sympathy and/or a way to make a miraculous recovery. Sorry to be so skeptical but Trump is such a liar I don't trust one word that he says.

If the Trumps do have the virus and if the Bidens get it from exposure at the debate, what will happen next? Infect them all and let God decide? I shudder at the thought.

Putting on my tin foil hat. Let's see....

Trump Think: Taking a beating in the polls and coming off a disastrous debate performance, how do I change the news cycle! I got it, I will introduce a new but familiar character into the mix: Hope Hicks. Hope will infect me and Melania with the virus. That will change the news cycle and allow me to avoid answering any more damn questions from the fake news media for 2 weeks. During this 2 week hiatus, I can fake going into the ICU. With the potential for being unable to perform my duties as POTUS, Pence will temporarily assume power and pardon me for any and all federal crimes that I may have committed before and after becoming POTUS. After the pardon, I can have a miraculous recovery and reclaim my title as King of America. This may have the added benefit of drawing some sympathy from those few voters that haven't decided yet.

That's it. Let's do it

Godspeed is an admonition of positive hope.

Saying that "I won't feel sorry for them" is a statement that those who now are infected consciously knew that they were not practicing the best protocols for keeping themselves safe from the virus, ergo, they bear responsibility for their plight as well and are not the same as innocent victims who become infected through no fault of their own.

If this outrages you, I'd suggest going back to bed and starting your day over again. The only thing deplorable is trying to conflate this comment into a derogatory one like Trump makes himself about the suffering and hardships of others with nearly every breath.

If you decide to repent of your sins and believe Jesus can save you, He gives you the power to no longer sin.

It is like apologizing to a member of your family: you fight it at first, then apologize, THEN you realize how wrong you were in other areas.

Many of you have such hate and angst in your heart against so many things, you need to see it is an indicator of your darkened heart. That doesn't mean Trump hasn't said and done bad things, but the fact that he makes you we angry as he does, is an indicator you have a problem.

Please repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Criminally negligent yet again...Nixon

I recall back in the early 80s Felony laws were passed which criminalized sex between a person who knew they were HIV Positive, without informing their partner of their condition. I also seem to recall these "Transmission" laws carried some pretty significant penalties.

Perhaps it is time for a set of laws prohibiting and penalizing a CV-19 positive patient who knows they are CV-19 positive, and who refuse to mask up or quarantine appropriately.

Trump et al were as reckless as the HIV positive patient who would engage in unprotected sex. There should be criminal penalties of this kind for negligent behavior for Covid positive patients who do what the Trump cadre has done.

Based on the theorized incubation period, Trump would have contracted the virus sometime last weekend give or take a day or so.

There's a whole lot of contact tracing going on right now, and Amy Coney Barrett was likely exposed to an shedding Trump or one of his infected staffers too. And she's met with all the older GOP Senators in close quarter meetings this week.

And let's not forget that the entire Trump contingent who all flew together on AF1 to Cleveland refused to wear masks during the course of the debate on Tuesday night, exposing the entire room to potential infection while Trump spewed droplets for over 90 minutes.

What a reckless, selfish bunch of ignoramuses.

A person briefed on the matter said that Mr. Trump fell asleep at one point on Air Force One on the way back from a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday night....

CPD Chair Declines To Comment On Future Of Debates

Frank Fahrenkopf, co-chair of the Commission on Presidential Debates, declined to comment on Friday when asked by CNN about the future of presidential and vice presidential debates following President Trump's positive test for coronavirus.

"No comment right now," he said.

In my opinion, the presidential debates are over. Trump and his entire entourage refused to follow the agreed upon safety protocols and wear masks in the hall and now they've exposed dozens to potential infection as a result.

They have all proven that rules mean nothing to them. They cannot be allowed to place others in harm again.

Based on the theorized incubation period, Trump would have contracted the virus sometime last weekend give or take a day or so.

Last I knew average was about five days. 90% develop symptoms within 11 days so there's a good amount of time where he could have gotten it.

More importantly, though, is that it's thought shedding begins a day or two before symptom onset. You're not contagious during the majority of the incubation period.

There's a whole lot of contact tracing going on right now, and Amy Coney Barrett was likely exposed to an shedding Trump or one of his infected staffers too. And she's met with all the older GOP Senators in close quarter meetings this week.

Listening to NPR this morning and they said Johnson is down in the 40% points in the polls. I don't think a politician will gain much sympathy after they have discouraged people from wearing masks and social distancing. For them to ask for sympathy now is pretty hypocritical. How many of their own supporters have died because they listened to Trump or Johnson?

Trump Kept Regular Schedule After Learning Close Aide Hope Hicks Had Covid
www.bloomberg.com

...President Donald Trump learned on Thursday morning that his aide Hope Hicks tested positive for coronavirus, yet continued on with a full schedule of events, including a fundraiser at his New Jersey resort that raised $5 million, according to people familiar with the situation....

In between learning the news of Hicks' infection Thursday morning and announcing his own early Friday, Trump stuck to his prepared schedule. That decision would appear to contradict the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guidance on COVID, which reads:

"Even if you test negative for COVID-19 or feel healthy, you should stay home (quarantine) since symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus."...

With the filibuster, if I've got 41 votes, all the negotiation in the world won't change the outcome if I don't want it.

Then again, you've proven you're okay with minority rule, as long as you're the one in power.

Boaz. COVID has been around since February. Trump has been ignoring it. Call the dangers of covid a Democratic hoax. Telling militias to storm capital buildings in order to reopen the economy. Forced schools to reopen. Hasn't mentioned Herman Cain once since he passed away. Did everything he and his administration could to cause covid to spread across America. Allowed over 200,000 Americans to die.

You haven't made a peep.

But now. Trump claims he's got covid and you're here calling us names?

You didn't care about anything covid related. But now Trump has it, so we're crappy and deplorable?

We're not going to know who might have been infected in Cleveland until next week at the earliest, so take today's negative tests with a grain of salt.

Negative tests are tricky to interpret in part because of the issue of timing. After people are exposed to the coronavirus, they incubate it for several days before testing positive or showing symptoms. In a systematic review of seven studies published in May, researchers at Johns Hopkins University analyzed how long this process typically takes. They found that the most widely used test, called a P.C.R. test, was most likely to come back positive eight days after an exposure to the virus, which tended to coincide with a person's third day of symptoms. Still, even on this ideal day, the tests came back negative on average in 20 percent of people who later tested positive.

We don't know when President Trump was first infected. Late in the day on Thursday, the administration announced that one of his senior aides, Hope Hicks, had tested positive. Around 1 a.m. Friday, the president tweeted that he and the first lady had as well. It's certainly possible that he had the coronavirus at the debate on Tuesday and could have infected Mr. Biden, even if he didn't have symptoms.

Based on the research, we may not know for another week. Even if Mr. Biden's initial tests come back negative, it won't mean he's in the clear.

Twin,

Trump has had all the information since before any of us did. He admitted it during his interview with Woodward. He chose not only to personally ignore it. But to also lie and deceive the public.

He was free to respond to the information he received however he chose. But he never shared that information with the rest of us. Luckily a lot of Democrats were warning us and a lot of us have done what we can to quarantine, stay safe, flatten the curve.

But that wasn't a nation response to COVID. That wasn't Trump acting ahead of the virus in order to protect America.

Trump in no way has attempted to be a leader and unite America to defeating the virus.

Trump has been a divisionist. Preferring a divider and conquer mentality.

He's personally responsible for over 208,000 deaths in America.

So. No. I don't feel sorry for Trump either. This is his bed he's made. Now he gets to sleep in it.

Besides. After sleeping on the news. I'm convinced he's lying. Perhaps to change the news cycle. Perhaps to gain sympathies. Regardless. I don't believe Trump. Something about a guy whose on record with over 20,000 lies. Not sure why anyone would continue to believe him.

It doesn't disqualify her, but it would absolutely throw McConnell's expedited hearing and vote schedules into serious doubt. By any estimation, Barrett has got to go into quarantine immediately even though she tested negative today.

She has been in close contact with at least 5 people since last Saturday who've all tested Covid positive over the last 2 days.

The Coronavirus Treatments Available for Trump

...The scramble to develop treatments for Covid-19 has paid off and a number of therapies are improving the chances of survival for very sick patients. Since the disease first emerged, medical professionals have gone from fumbling in the dark to a better understanding of what drugs work -- notably steroids and the antiviral medicine remdesivir. There's no evidence U.S. President Donald Trump, who has tested positive for the coronavirus, is sick enough to require such treatments, but they're available should he need them....

Not just her being quarantined or infected, but also every single GOP Senator who sits on the Judiciary Committee that she's met with this week and/or attended her announcement last Saturday at the White House. Already Mike Lee is positive, and what if any of these Senators are too sick when it comes time to vote her nomination out of committee?

The only Democratic member to meet with Barrett so far has been Joe Manchin. But have no doubt, Covid has thrown every single issue in Washington into a state of confusion for the near future.

And almost certainly, any substantial sickness of the nominee or the committee members would throw any final vote into the lame duck session after the election.

And all of this is based upon a complete clearing of the virus without any lasting complications, which itself is never a sure bet for anyone.

Wouldn't this call for a hiatus on her nomination until everybody is either confirmed or cleared for the full extent of the gestation period?

While Democrats indeed were asking for moral Republicans to kill Barrett's nomination, little did they know that the GOP itself is seemingly doing all it can to literally kill the nominee - by exposing her to multiple Republicans who've now contracted Covid-19.

Any schedule announced at this point in time is nothing but a plan. Mother Nature will be the ultimate arbiter of what will or won't be possible in the near term, not simply what Mitch McConnell wishes.

I don't feel sorry for this man.

He lied--repeatedly--about the virus and its severity to the American people.
He knew it was serious; digital audio quotes him as knowing. Yet, he lied to gain political advantage.
He held mass propaganda rallies that he knew would spread the virus; yet, he did it anyway for perceived political advantage.
He encouraged people to not wear masks, and taunted people who did wear masks, sparking a culture war of maskers/anti-maskers.
Trump mocked Biden for wearing a mask, even as recently as September 29's debate.
Trump had his entire family show up unmasked to this debate, probably infecting them all and others.
Trump knew Wednesday that Hope Hicks was infected and knew that she almost certainly infected others, including the West Wing and his family. yet he held a fundraiser in NJ without masks.
He publicly attempted to humiliate Joe Biden on worldwide television for wearing a mask.
Now, he puts American security at risk around the world through his lies, foolish behavior and hubris.

I don't feel sorry for him ONE BIT. He hasn't gotten what he earned yet!

At the Barrett events this weekend, people were told after they tested negative they could take off their masks.

That's not how any of this works. A negative test is not an excuse to pretend a pandemic isn't going on. You still have to practice distancing and wear a mask around people because tests might not have caught everyone spreading the virus.

Yes, that was AG Barr. Notice that there was NO social distancing and in the video, it appears that the only people you can see wearing masks were staff, most of whom appeared to be uniformed military personnel, which is ironic since Trump's first response when it was announced that Hope Hicks was positive, was that she had recently interacted with a lot of military personnel implying that she got it from one of them.

I don't think it's fake judging by the number of other people who have admitted it. None of this helps anyone's career considering downplaying the virus is a common thread among these people. Not to mention they aren't going to get much sympathy from the majority of people who have witnessed their antics. Trump Infection Puts Large Circle of White House Aides at Risk

...President Donald Trump interacted or traveled with a large coterie of top aides and advisers in the days before he was diagnosed with Covid-19, raising the risk of a widespread outbreak within the White House.

The circle of close contacts with the infected president and his wife, Melania, begins with his adviser Hope Hicks, who fell ill on Wednesday night. She traveled with Trump to the presidential debate on Tuesday and to campaign stops in Minnesota on Wednesday.

She was seen in close quarters with several other officials, including White House senior adviser Stephen Miller and Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller....

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) announced Friday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and said he first began feeling symptoms Thursday morning right around the time he attended a nearly 90-minute Senate Judiciary Committee hearing without a mask on for at least part of the time.

Most members of the committee attended the Thursday hearing. Those in attendance included Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Chris ----- (D-Del.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Lee.

Lee was there for the entire hearing. He spoke for more than 10 minutes straight when it was his turn to talk, at times shouting into the room. He sat feet away from Cruz. He did not have a mask on when talking, and at times did not have it on when not talking.

"The direct evidence shows that the news of Hope Hicks' positive test result, and her earlier illness, were hidden from both the public and most people who were directly at risk from exposure. What the evidence strongly suggests is that Trump was infected days earlier than his test result, no later than Monday, which was the day before he snorted and shouted across from Biden for 90 minutes. Everything from the reappearance of the second White House podium to Melania's mask-wearing suggests that a small number of Trump's team was aware of the truth for days."

There is no upside for Trump catching Covid and then recovering. He's denied that it's a real threat, so unless he goes into the Oval Office everyday and continues his normal work schedule, he's already proven himself woefully wrong. Trump would be on tv telling everyone that the infection is nothing that his strong genes can't handle. Yet not a peep from him today. That plays against it being faked.

And if he recovers, that still doesn't mitigate the fact that he's denied almost every protocol that would have kept him from catching the virus in the first place.

I've watched MAGA hat wearing Trumpers on tv today saying that Trump was too nonchalant about the virus and now it's caught up with him.

As the White House now scrambles to do everything that experts have told them needs to be done as it regards contact tracing, quarantining and isolating the infected, the new reality makes clear that Trump has been full of poop the entire time and that 210,000 Americans didn't need to die if the White House had led in telling Americans to embrace the best practices instead of acting as though the virus didn't exist as a real threat.

Live updates: Trump expected to head to Walter Reed hospital after positive test
www.washingtonpost.com

...Two administration officials said that Trump is preparing to depart for Walter Reed Medical Center Friday evening around 5:30 p.m.

The visit is "out of an abundance of caution," the official said, adding that the president may remain there for several days.

Trump spent Friday working and making calls from his residence, and plans to continue working from the hospital, the official said. Walter Reed has an executive office suite set up for this very purpose, including both a residence and an office space, the official said. The official stressed that Trump is not seriously ill, but because of his age, as well as other risk factors, he and aides decided to take this additional step.

He is expected to travel there on Marine One, and to walk out to the helicopter on his own.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany shared an update from the president's doctor in tweet earlier Friday afternoon.

"As of this afternoon the President remains fatigued but in good spirits," White House physician Sean P. Conley wrote in a memo. "He's being evaluated by a team of experts and together we'll be making recommendations to the President and First Lady in regards to next best steps."...

CBS News TV is showing a view of Marine One that is different from the usual view, in that the view is from the South Lawn towards the White House. Usually, the view is from the White House towards Marine One.

CBS is reporting that there are some reporters on the lawn between the WH and Marine One, and that the WH wants the video of Pres Trump walking to Marine One to be seen on TV.

Some are FDA approved (steroids and blood thinners) and used widely so they're just...off label.

Normally, martyrs die in defense of a worthy cause that inspires those who follow.

In the case of Trump, he would have sacrificed the cause because he was too ego-driven to realize that a novelcoronavirus cannot be defeated by bluster and bombast when his own recorded words - proving that he understood the power of his enemy, yet chose to disrespect it anyway - will live beyond him.

BTW, there are now TWO GOP Senators who are members of the Judiciary Committee that are currently infected with Covid and headed into isolation likely for at least 14 days.

If the Dems don't lose anyone, the committee is now 10-10 until Sens. Lee and Tillis clear the virus.

This may throw a little wrench into Mitch's plans and may indeed sway public opinion depending on how all this plays out.

But if the Republicans lose one more, the Dems have the majority on the committee.

You know what? Maybe RBG actually DID win that case up in heaven. This is freaking unbelievable!

Did you see this earlier?

He did not have a mask on when talking, and at times did not have it on when not talking.

www.nytimes.com

I don't think that it's a longshot Lee or Tillis may have infected others that won't show up until next week. This really might be RBG's revenge.

He'll reportedly slowly decline, and die on a ventilator; but in reality, he's getting radical plastic surgery and liposuction, and will walk out of Walter Reed 50 pounds lighter, three inches shorter (without his lifts), with a shaved head sporting velour tracksuit. He'll get on a plane and escape with a new identity to Argentina, to live with all the other escaped Nazis, thus avoiding his one billion dollars debt coming due and the federal and state charges piling up.

Literally, the entire 18 of the committee members in yesterday's meeting should be in quarantine right now depending upon the seating arrangement and distancing of the meeting room. Since Mitch wants to start on the 12th, that would already put them 4 days behind if a 14 day quarantine was observed.

And that's just the committee. And if the GOP loses the committee majority, the Dems could shut it down on it's own, which would force McConnell to take the nomination directly to the floor which is even more blatant.

The Dems reasons are obvious: There's a freaking pandemic going on in the committee. There is no reason to rush this hearing with everything else that's going on.

This would actually be true independent of the politics and since more than 60% wants the Senate to wait anyway - and with Trump now sick with Covid - it would be quite a haul for Mitch to jam this through before November 3rd.

It would have been counterproductive for Biden to keep running negative ads on the day his opponent is hospitalized with a serious illness. They would hurt him as much if not more than they hurt Trump.

The money is better spent on positive ads, particularly those that emphasize his plans for fighting Covid-19.

All great leaders since Moses have known that a feared enemy must be crushed completely. (Sometimes they have learned this the hard way.) If one ember is left alight, no matter how dimly it smolders, a fire will eventually break out. More is lost through stopping halfway than through total annihilation: The enemy will recover, and will seek revenge. Crush him, not only in body but in spirit.

I knew you were gonna bring that up!

You definitely have a point, and you'll have an even better one if the Court itself decides all that decorum about state decisis has run its course...

I can't really predict if the Supreme Court will honor its own legacy and sense of decorum, given the chance to violate the Founders intent and criminalize abortion.

I'd rather not find out the answer to that by sinking to Trump's level.

So I ask, why should he create more negativity for himself by running negative ads?
You need to keep in mind that voters generally do not like negative ads. The fine line that needs to be walked when running negative ads is that you have to throw more negativity upon you opponent than you throw upon yourself for running them.
It is indeed a fine line. Just ask the campaigns that ran them and lost.

Oh, that's easy. Trump in 2016 had no negatives to run against. He was an outsider. A tall glass of water, for right-wingers and other hateful creatures looking for Hope and Change.

2020 Trump has four years of glass house failures to address, before he goes throwing stones at anyone else.

I do not disagree, for the most part. They are supremely well-produced.

But they are not ads from the Biden campaign.

Their gain their effectiveness from their origin - Republicans. Republicans who are saying, "this is not who we want to be."

That is powerful.

Could Mr Biden pull off something similar?

Well, for starters, Mr Biden is not a Republican.

So if he were to run an ad like that, it would not be a "this is not we want to be" ad.

It would be a purely negative ad against an opponent.

Vastly different perception.

Depends on the ads and the target. You seem to be under the impression that Biden hasn't been doing negative ads. He has, thus the issue of him announcing he is stopping them.

I think I have made it perfectly clear what votes he will gain. Fence sitters who are too stupid to realize that Biden will protect them better from Covid. Those "undecideds" who think ------- saved them from 2,000,000 dead. Those voters who don't understand or realize the enormity of the deception from -------. I, personally, dont UNDERSTAND these types of voters, but they are out there. I don't understand people who wont wear a mask.

But there is a singular opportunity to peel some of those voters away. Negative ads touting -------s lies, and lack of caring about American dead. PERHAPS that will get through their heads. That ------- doesnt care about them, that when ------- caught covid he panicked!!!! MAYBE,just MAYBE that will get through their skulls that ------- didnt have their best interests at heart.

#477 | Posted by truthhurts

Every one of the infected - including the President of Notre Dame - would have been in ACB's face at some point that day, especially Melania. If you take the known infected, they're actually spread out across the rows, not concentrated in one central spot.

But every one of the known infected would have had close contact to ACB at this event as a matter of protocol.

It still doesn't explain Hope Hicks though. Maybe the origin is a person who was at the event and works closely with Hicks and/or the President too. Or there might be more than one vector of infection involved in this outbreak.

My concern going forward...

How accurate will be the information we receive regarding the President's condition?

Pres Trump has not been candid about his medical status. For example, why did he suddenly visit Walter Reed a few months ago?

If the President of the United States needs to be placed on a respirator, will we be told?

BREAKING: WH official says masks will continue to not be mandatory at the WH, even after Trump tested positive. Saying it's a "personal choice." They won't even try to protect themselves, they definitely can't protect us. We need new leadership. Vote for Biden-Harris.

Saw this in a tweet.

How stupid are people that they don;t realize, even now, you dont wear a mask to protect yourself, you wear it to protect those around you.

Something this basic is not known at the WH???

I really think this Cold War relic mindset needs to be retired because it simply doesn't apply anymore.

First and foremost, every conceivable scenario involving potential offensive actions from a rival state actor has already been gamed out 50 ways to Sunday. Plans have already been laid in and simply need to be executed. Rival nations know this. There is nothing that Trump is going to value-add to any reactive process but for making the go/no go decision itself. He's not going to ask germane questions or think out likely probabilities because he's ignorant and incapable - especially under duress.

With him out of the way, there's a greater chance the right decision will be executed versus the wrong one, imo. The bottom line is that our military will do whatever they've already planned and trained to do once faced with an action needing a response. The decision will get made and there's a greater than coin flip chance that a better one would emerge from anyone outside of Trump.

Our enemies know that too. There's an old saying, Never f*** with crazy. Trump is crazy and unpredictable. A distracted Trump is just another level of crazy - as unpredictable as all the others. There's simply no advantage to be gained.

Brutal is the right word. Our comfort and ease in life has led to our complacency on so many levels.

@#611 ... I really think this Cold War relic mindset needs to be retired because it simply doesn't apply anymore. ...

Yeah, I am not in complete (or even major) disagreement.

My concern is that I've not yet seen a valid strategy forward.

Capitalism has told us to outsource manufacturing and other critical infrastructure to others.

But national security tells us that we need to be in control of manufacturing and other critical infrastructure.

I've not yet seen a resolution of that dichotomy.

In other words, how do we deal with China?

To be honest, I am not convinced I will see a resolution in the next decade.

It is a tough nut to crack.

For example, how do you, as a politician, tell the shoppers at Wal-Mart that everything is now 25% more expensive?

That ain't gonna work.

Even fmr Pres Reagan couldn't put a happy face on that one.

So, how do we get from here to there?

(where ever "there" might be)
