Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

President Donald Trump phoned Rudy Giuliani from his hospital bed Saturday afternoon to declare he feels so healthy, "I could get out of here right now. ... I am the president of the United States. I can't lock myself in a room. ... I had to confront [the virus] so the American people stopped being afraid of it so we could deal with it responsibly. We have made tremendous progress on treating this disease. Fatality rates are very low compared to [the beginning]."

"If I had handled it any other way, I would have created more panic, more fear in the American people.

"We are making great progress on dealing with this disease and making better progress with the economy than anyone had the right to expect."

Anyone thinking that Trump contracting the virus might actually cause him to reevaluate his position and rhetoric on Covid are going to be bigly disappointed. Trump is only capable of seeing anything from the perspective of how it either benefits or harms Trump's own needs and desires. He is incapable of internalizing that the untold thousands (likely hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical services his treatment will cost the American taxpayers) his treatments are costing would bankrupt and impoverish millions of Americans who do not have either health insurance nor million dollar bank accounts and the ability of affording the very costs that he will not bear himself when the reality is that most Americans do not have access to many of the treatment options Trump is receiving himself.

For most Americans, the best defense from Covid is, was, and always has been giving this virus the full respect it deserves as an incurable novel coronavirus while maximizing any and all efforts to minimize the numbers of Americans exposed to it. Trump thinks that posture and mindset dictates showing "strength" against the virus. They don't. They show ignorance, and the price of Trump's ignorance has now cost 210,000 American lives with no end in sight.

Hopefully it won't cost him his own.

So basically Trump told Rudy:

'I'm going to beat this thing or die trying.'

To which I say . . .

Okey-dokey. Have at it!

"I had to confront [the virus] so the American people stopped being afraid of it so we could deal with it responsibly."

It literally shows that this moronic narcissist doesn't realize that the 'American people' have been dealing with this virus from the very start as they've watched 7.4 million of us officially contract the virus, 210,000+ die from it, and untold thousands upon thousands have their personal health compromised for the rest of their lives due to its insidiousness as a lasting debilitating pathogen.

And all he sees is fear and fright? He doesn't recognize the tremendous wells of resolve, sacrifice, triumph and despair this virus has created during its monstrous march back and forth across this nation over the last 7+ months?

What a sad, sad, misrepresentation and complete misunderstanding of America's experiences during this pandemic. But it is 100% peak Trump sociopathy. Why should anyone expect less?

The past is prologue: 2020 Rudy was predicted in the 1960's cartoon Underdog.

only 99.7% or so recover from this

As usual FlimFlam you enter the discussion with bald-faced disinformation:

CLOSED CASES

5,028,817 Cases which had an outcome:

4,814,547 (96%) Recovered / Discharged

214,270 (4%) Deaths

Good job comrade. Now go collect your daily rubles and don't bother coming back.

More if one is old and obese... and orange.

What a stupid comment to stay that he will get through this

Better tell Trump comrade,

Two sources told me Trump experienced heart palpitations on Friday night"possible side effects of the experimental antibody treatment he received. Trump has wondered aloud if he could defeat the disease. "Am I going out like Stan Chera?" Trump has asked aides, referring to his friend, New York real-estate developer Stan Chera, who died of COVID in April.

I had to confront [the virus] so the American people stopped being afraid of it so we could deal with it responsibly.

It's just like when he had sex with all those hookers to shield the rest of us from STDs.

So much self-sacrifice squeezed into one morbidly obese body!

Now do this for elderly, obese men. Here's a start:

"For every 1,000 people in their mid-seventies or older who are infected, around 116 will die. These are the stark statistics obtained by some of the first detailed studies into the mortality risk for COVID-19."

If you think Trump volunteered to take a 1 in 10 chance of dying to prove to the American people that covid is not something to be feared, your opinion of his intelligence is even lower than my opinion of his intelligence and I think he is a moron.

The sad thing is he probably really believes the Messianic BS that he's spouting. He thinks he's "winning"against the virus by stubborn Denial.

Denial is his go to mindset. He's the Denial King.

He really believes if you don't test they never had it.

It's Bigly Sad and totally Bogus.

Nice discussion but what I see is Trump, even when he thinks he might be on his deathbed, using Rudy to get another one of his lies out in the public domain.

Or maybe carved on his tombstone.

Trump will beat this because he has the best health care in the world at his disposal now.

Something you and I will never ever see if Trumpy has his way and his Supreme Court nominee and the Court successfully dismantles and destroys the ACA by ruling against it on Nov 10.

"Trump will beat this because he has the best health care in the world at his disposal now. "

My SIL is a recently retired Pathologist. She has volunteered to be part of a vaccine test group. Her reaction upon hearing the news was "I want monoclonal antibodies on my first day, too".

Herman Cain thought the same thing at the same stage of the illness.

Trump can tell people he's going to beat this, and numerically illiterate people will proclaim with certainty that he's going to beat this, but it's not a sure thing. Coronavirus hammers people far younger and in far better shape than Trump. He needs luck to be on his side.
