Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, October 08, 2020

The FBI says it thwarted what it described as a plot to violently overthrow the government and kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and federal prosecutors are expected to discuss the alleged conspiracy later Thursday. "Several members talked about murdering 'tyrants' or 'taking' a sitting governor," an FBI agent wrote in the affidavit.

The FBI was already tracking the militia in March after a local police department learned members were trying to obtain addresses of local law-enforcement officers, the FBI agent wrote.

"At the time, the FBI interviewed a member of the militia group who was concerned about the group's plans to target and kill police officers, and that person agreed to become a (confidential source)," the agent wrote.

I think people often forget that the 2nd worst act of domestic terrorism outside of 9/11 was perpetrated by white supremacists in the Oklahoma City bombings. Almost 850 Americans became casualties in the bomb blast.

This nation is more vulnerable because it has been the GOP's unending stance (up until this week it seems) that the FBI not allowed to more widely publicize which groups and types of individuals pose the greatest threat to Americans living in America. And while not a single death or act of domestic terror has every been linked to the nebulous Antifa, Sovereign Citizens, neo-Nazis, KKK adherents, and sundry others have not been anywhere as benign though you never hear it from our current AG nor this Administration.

White supremacism is a cancer that needs to be eradicated like any disease that physically threatens the safe and normal functioning of our national body.

More from the PDF linked in #7...

...As previously discussed, the FBI was able to monitor much of the activity between FOX and others through the use of CHSs. On June 14, 2020, CHS-2 participated in a consensually recorded telephone call with FOX, who described the meeting in Dublin, Ohio. FOX said he needed "200 men" to storm the Capitol building in Lansing, Michigan, and take hostages, including the Governor. FOX explained they would try the Governor of Michigan for "treason," and he said they would execute the plan before the November 2020 elections.

On June 20, 2020, FOX, GARBIN, and several other individuals, including CHS- 2, met at FOX's business in Grand Rapids. As part of FOX's operational security, the attendees met in the basement of the shop, which was accessed through a trap door hidden under a rug on the main floor. FOX collected all of their cellular phones in a box and carried them upstairs to prevent any monitoring. CHS-2 was wearing a recording device, however, and captured the audio from the meeting. The attendees discussed plans for assaulting the Michigan State Capitol, countering law enforcement first responders, and using "Molotov cocktails" to destroy police vehicles....

On July 27, 2020, CHS-2 met FOX at his business in Grand Rapids. CHS-2 provided the FBI with an audio recording of the meeting. FOX said their best opportunity to abduct Governor Whitmer would be when she was arriving at, or leaving, either her personal vacation home or the Governor's official summer residence. Both residences are located in the Western District of Michigan. FOX described it as a "Snatch and grab, man. Grab the f***in' Governor. Just grab the bitch. Because at that point, we do that, dude -- it's over." FOX said that after kidnapping the Governor, the group would remove her to a secure location in Wisconsin for "trial." ...

The right storms State Capitols fully armed and assassinates presidents. They drive their cars through protests and chant racists slurs and adages.

...On August 29, 2020, FOX, CHS-2, and another individual conducted surveillance of the vacation home. CHS-2 provided FBI with an audio recording of the operation. FOX used his cell phone to attempt to locate the residence, but initially they had trouble finding it. He contacted a friend who had assisted them in the past; the friend told him where the vacation home was located and sent pictures of the home from the internet. FOX and the other individual located the vacation home, took photographs and slow-motion video from their vehicle as they drove by it, and discussed conducting additional surveillance from the water at a later date. The other individual then looked up the locations of the local police department and Michigan State Police in the area, and used them to estimate how long it would take law enforcement to respond to an incident at the vacation home. During the surveillance operation, FOX said, "We ain't gonna let em burn our f***n' state down. I don't give a f*** if there's only 20 or 30 of us, dude, we'll go out there and use deadly force."...

Militia - a body of citizens organized in a paramilitary group and typically regarding themselves as defenders of individual rights against the presumed interference of the federal government.

Aside from mention of the federal government (this incident was state government), they seem to meet the definition in Random House Unabridged Dictionary (1980's edition).

I don't need to know the details because lefties don't sit around trying to foment plots to overthrow the government or kidnap elected officials. These guys owned businesses. They had means. What is their gripe? What is the "treason" they were fighting to reveal and gather public support to condemn? How did they imagine this would play out? National Guard would just turn to their side? Police would ignore their obvious danger to innocent citizens as they lock down a city? How long would their mock trial take and what outcome? A public hanging?

Are right wingers addicted to fear? Seriously, is there a dependency?

There seems to be some evidence that they are able to think. For example, incapacitating the cell phones by putting them in a box before going through the secret door under the rug and into the secret basement, the thought processes seem to be narrowly focused.

To your point, their imagination of how this would play out was probably, ummm, let's call it misguided. Yeah, that's the word. Misguided.

However, an important thing that I think we need to keep in mind is --- how close was the FBI to missing this whole escapade?

In other words, how close was this militia group to accomplishing what they were planning to do?

What is focusing this kind of "irritation" into a murder plot?

Why didn't they simply talk with the gym owner about what they wanted? Yet, their memberships haven't been revoked.. Perhaps we have found the actual ring leader is Anadrol!

#94 | POSTED BY LAMPLIGHTER AT 2020-10-08 10:28 PM

I'd say about as close as cops could responsibly allow them to get while still letting them do enough to develop some charges.

Through confidential sources, undercover agents, and clandestine recordings, law enforcement learned particular individuals were planning to kidnap the Governor and acting in furtherance of that plan. This group used operational security measures, including communicating by encrypted messaging platforms and used code words and phrases in an attempt to avoid detection by law enforcement. On two occasions, members of the alleged conspiracy conducted coordinated surveillance on the Governor's vacation home. Fox and Croft discussed detonating explosive devices to divert police from the area of the vacation home and Fox even inspected the underside of an M-31 highway bridge for places to seat an explosive, according to the complaint. Among other activities, the complaint alleges Fox purchased a taser for use in the kidnapping and that the group successfully detonated an improvised explosive device wrapped with shrapnel to test its anti-personnel capabilities. The FBI and Michigan State Police executed arrests as multiple conspirators met to pool funds for explosives and exchange tactical gear.

"And it doesnt look like they were right wing."

That's kind of a nebulous term.

Most people would consider the National Socialists to have been right-wing, but their economic policies were further left than those of Bernie. Even today, many of those on the extreme nationalist, racist right are promoting anti-capitalist messaging as a means of appealing to a broader group of potential supporters, inclusing those on the far left. It's really not that much different than what was going on a century ago. The communists and fascists weren't fighting because they were so different, but rather because they were competing for the same hearts and minds.

"We need to be explicitly anti-capitalist. There's no other way forward for our movement," declared Eli Mosley, one of the panelists at the event and former head of the white supremacist group Identity Evropa. "Twenty-eighteen is going to be the year of leftists joining the white-nationalist movement!" Echoing this sentiment were Mosley's co-panelists, including white supremacist blogger Mike Enoch, whose real surname is Peinovich. "We have to push a right-wing workers' movement," he opined, while blasting the culture of capitalism, where "everything" runs the risk of getting "corporatized and capitalized" and "everything is empty and fake."

"Guy is unhinged."

It's probably safe to say that most extremists are unhinged. Michael Forest Reinoehl's sister said he had no business getting involved with either BLM or antifa because he was not mentally stable enough to deal with it.

he sister of Portland shooting suspect Michael Forest Reinoehl was "relieved and also disappointed" by her brother's death Thursday " and now fears it will kick off a fresh wave of violence. April Reinoehl said she knew her Antifa-supporting brother's death was only a matter of time. But she was shocked to learn it was a US Marshals task force " and not right-wing supporters " that took him out in Washington state. "I wouldn't say at this point that this counts as bad news. It's just more news," April told the Daily Mail, which broke the news of Michael's killing in a phone call. "Honestly I didn't expect it to be the police, I expected it to be the people who had a contract out for him. I was expecting the angry population of people who were out for blood." April, who was estranged from the 48-year-old security guard, expects his death will spur even more violence.

Defund the police?
#108 | POSTED BY MADBOMBER

If you actually read about most of the things you talked about, you'd know that most people calling to "defund the police" simply want to shift resources and responsibilities for particular matters, such that nonviolent incidents would be handled by people trained in de-escalation. Things like a truant teenager, a man talking to himself in a parking lot, someone doing heroin in a park, might be better addressed by a person with a social services background than a guy who is trained to shout commands and point a gun.

In other worD's, a violent plot to kidnap a governor would still be handled by police, who would still have all the funding required to do so.

Gretchen Whitmer accuses Donald Trump of inciting domestic terror

The Michigan governor who was the target of a foiled rightwing kidnapping plot said on Friday that Donald Trump's rhetoric "incites more domestic terror", after the president posted a series of aggressive tweets overnight that sought to shame the victim of the plot.

Trump, who has spent months criticizing Whitmer and other Democratic governors over measures to try to control the coronavirus pandemic as it surged across America, on Thursday said Whitmer had "done a terrible job" in Michigan, and complained that she was yet to thank him for the FBI stopping the plot.
Speaking on Friday morning, Whitmer said Trump was "creating a very dangerous situation".

"Each time he has tweeted about me, each time that he has said liberate Michigan' and said I should negotiate with the very people who are arrested because they're good people', that incites more domestic terror," Whitmer told ABC News.

"And I am not the only governor going through this. Certainly it's been worse for me than most, but it is not unique to me, it is not even unique to Democrats. This White House has a duty to call it out and they won't do it " in fact, they encourage it."
