Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, October 10, 2020

On Thursday, the FBI announced that six men were facing federal charges in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap and possibly kill Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced that seven of their allies were facing weapons charges at the state level. And in a new local sheriff who had appeared at a rally with some of the suspects made an awkward effort to defend them, implying that perhaps they were merely trying to "arrest" Whitmer rather than kidnap her.

Most of us realized they were likely Terrorists when we saw them commandeer the Michigan State House by threat of force.

"Liberate Michigan" was a pretty obvious call-to-arms by our treasonous Cheetolini.

And they wonder why people say "-u-- the police"

... but merely a citizens' arrest. ...

A citizens' arrest would turn the person over to the authorities.

These men had discussed bringing the Governor to a secret location for a trial.

That does not sound like a citizens' arrest to me, but, at best, a kidnapping.

But it also raises the question, why is the sheriff trying to defend the men? Isn't that the job of their lawyer?

After much discussion in our newsroom, we've decided that moving forward, we will be using the term "domestic terrorism" or "domestic terrorist," rather than militia. We feel these words better define the subjects of the investigation.

@#4 ... we will be using the term "domestic terrorism" or "domestic terrorist," rather than militia. ...

In this instance I tend to agree.

Overall, the problem I have is where to draw the line between militia and domestic terrorists.

The Sheriff implied that Whitmer may have committed a felony that would have justfied a citizens arrest by these men. Which to me begs the question of why he hasn't gone and arrested her himself.

It's almost like this Sheriff is a POS who grasps at straws to defend domestic terrorism.

Following the arrest of six men earlier this week for their alleged involvement in a plot to kidnap Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer before the November election, Dar Leaf, Barry County (Mich.) sheriff, said that he doesn't have any regrets about being on stage with one of the suspects at a recent demonstration and suggested the Wolverine Watchmen militia members may have been merely planning to apprehend Gov. Whitmer to execute a citizen's arrest.

Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf Leaf stood alongside an armed William Null at a rally protesting Gov. Whitmer's stay-at-home order in May.

At the mid-May rally, Leaf said the governor's quarantine measures were akin to the mass arrest of the state's residents and called a local barber, who opened despite the governor's order, a "little version of Rosa Parks."

Leaf, a 30-year veteran of law enforcement, praised Michigan militia members working security detail at that event, declaring they were "the last line of defense" against an overreaching government.

"It's just a charge, and they say a 'plot to kidnap,' and you got to remember that. Are they trying to kidnap? Because a lot of people are angry with the governor, and they want her arrested," Leaf explained.

"So are they trying to arrest or was it a kidnap attempt? Because you can still in Michigan if it's a felony, make a felony arrest."

These types are Posse Comitatus Sheriffs; little dictators who think they are the ultimate law.

From that forbes.com article...

...Leaf belongs to the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, a group that believes that county sheriffs retain "supreme authority within their jurisdictions to interpret the law." ...

Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association

"The cover story, "Line in the Sand," details the growth of this radical ideology since 2009. The movement, formed around an organization called the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA), is a phenomenon rarely, if ever, seen in the United States " a concerted, long-term effort to recruit law enforcement officers into the antigovernment "Patriot" movement."

So the Sheriff is already knee deep in these thugs.

says he has no regrets about sharing stage with suspect

Why would he have regrets?

They're cult members and best friends.

Sheriff probably helped conceive the plan.

We need more centralized government to rein in this sheriff comitatus type crap. These guys are legal psychopaths. They are in cahoots with Amy Coney Barrett types who see their own authority as absolute.

We're screwed by the repubs. They are codifying a way to use the courts to control everybody except the nutters they like.

Those get supreme authority, with Trump as their final arbiter.

Yuck!

Every law enforcement employee in the group should be called before a tribunal and given the choice to resign their position immediately or face prosecution.

They have violated their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

That is a very serious crime in my opinion.

In fact, it might even be worth citizens arresting the Sheriff...

These terrorists should get a fair trial and a new room in some comfy high security prison in the UP. As for Sheriff Wiggums, he should lay off the donuts, dress more like a sheriff than a dog catcher, and worry more about upholding the law than being a sycophant of some mouth breathers who would shoot the sheriffs mother if she had the wrong yard sign.

The residents of the county should hold a little recall election for this guy...

When the FBI stops a plot to kidnap a governor, & the President can't thank the FBI b/c he's fighting w/ them-& he can't be thankful for the governor's safety, b/c he's fighting w/ her-& he can't condemn the terrorists b/c they're his supporters...it's time for a new President.

Unfortunately, there are no laws on the books covering "domestic terrorism". You cannot charge American citizens with "terrorism" because the laws only apply to "foreign terrorists", therefore only a non-citizen can be considered a "terrorist" under our system of justice. Americans are just plain, run-of-the-mill criminals.
