Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, October 15, 2020

With less than three weeks to go before Nov. 3, roughly 15 million Americans have already voted in the fall election, reflecting an extraordinary level of participation despite barriers erected by the coronavirus pandemic ... Of the roughly 3.5 million voters who have cast ballots in six states that provide partisan breakdowns, registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by roughly 2 to 1, according to a Washington Post analysis of data in Florida, Iowa, Maine, Kentucky, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

First things first, this is a news story, not a reason to take the election's outcome as a foregone conclusion. Americans are standing in long lines for up to 11 hours to insure that their votes count this year because so many see and understand many are invested in suppressing their ability to vote and then trying to invalidate their ballots.

And the following is something that Trump and the GOP have grossly miscalculated with his overemphasis on delegitimizing mail-in balloting:

While polls show that Democrats are more likely to vote by mail this year, there are signs that many are abandoning those plans and showing up in person instead. That trend was apparent this week in Fulton County, Ga., where it helped drive long lines at early voting centers, officials said.

"We're getting a lot of reports of people canceling their ballots by mail," said Rick Barron, the elections chief in Fulton County, home of downtown Atlanta.

Still, the early numbers are proving to be larger than even Democrats predicted. Three out of four voters in Pennsylvania who have returned their ballots, for instance, are registered Democrats. In increasingly Democratic Virginia, where early voting began in September with hours-long lines in suburban Washington, nearly 1.7 million voters had cast ballots by Wednesday, according to the nonpartisan Virginia Public Access Project " more than triple the number who voted early or by mail overall in 2016. In Kentucky, nearly 70 percent of mail ballots cast have come from registered Democrats.

Run through the finish line America and make sure your individual voice is both heard and felt wherever you live in this great nation.

But the Bluenami is real and it's growing. And in the immortal words of Sammy Sosa "(K)eep it continue," all the way through November 3rd.

More startling numbers:

(N)early 40 percent of those who voted Monday in Georgia were Black, and 56 percent were women, according to state election data. Two years ago, when Democrat Stacey Abrams, who is Black, narrowly lost the race for Georgia governor, 34 percent of the electorate was Black, according to U.S. census data. In that election, the share of women who voted was 56 percent, the same as the proportion of early voters now.

"Are you seeing the same thing I'm seeing?" asked one Republican strategist in Georgia who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak candidly, when shown the numbers. "This state is blue."

Next came Texas, where early in-person voting kicked off Tuesday. In Harris County alone, home of the state's largest city, Houston, and a sizable Black population, more than 128,000 voters cast ballots in person, setting a county turnout record. The county, which voted against Trump in 2016 by a margin of more than 12 points, roughly matched 10 percent of its entire turnout four years ago on its first day of early voting.

In Travis County, home to largely Democratic Austin, county clerk Dana DeBeauvoir said she expects about 650,000 of the county's eligible 850,000 voters to cast ballots before Election Day.

Biden, Democrats raise record-busting $383 million in September

The amount raised in one month beat the Democrats' record-shattering haul in August of $364.5 million.

The former vice president on Wednesday tweeted a video of him calling a grass-roots donor named Trimicka, a special-education teacher, to personally thank her and tell her first about the sum raised.

"I want you to know, nobody knows this, you know how much money we raised in the month of September? $380 million," he tells her as she cheers. "That's more money than I've ever raised in my whole life. 5.5 million donors, like you, I'm really humbled by it."

I've tweeted Trump a number of times to keep up the good work. I said " You're on the right track. You're going to win this thing."

He loves to hear that kind of thing.

Um, this happens every election cycle. It's already 100% know that Libs vote early. This is just a propaganda piece that happens every four years to try to get the sheep to vote for Dems because "everybody's doing it". It doesn't work. But I get the fight, the proportion of people who don't just follow along is decreasing so Dems get more sheep. And the country suffers for it because they cater so hard to those people instead of the intelligent ones.

Trump is susceptible to flattery, we should give him lots of it, and then throw his ass out of office in the election. My biggest fear lately though is how much harm he can do to this nation between election day and inauguration day. We should change our Constitution and have Presidents leave office immediately after an election that they lose. They should not have any opportunity to get revenge on a nation that rejects them.

Trumpers support huge tax cuts for the 1% which were passed as permanent tax rates while selling the middle class on a much smaller tax cut which was passed as a temporary rate which expires at the end of the year and you pretend it is Democrats who are sheep. I'd have to say, the real sheep are the morons who are lead around by the nose by Trump. You'll be shorn on Dec. 31 but you're too dumb to know it.

What intelligent ones?

Do you mean the ones who wait until the last day and stand in lines for 8-9-10 hours in the heat and rain while dodging and sidestepping anyone not wearing a mask and looks they might be sick with a coronavirus that could possible infect you, your family and everybody you know, especially your children and their school.

Those intelligent ones?

I think the country is hoping Trump will be on a ventilator by then.

There's no guarantee that Regeneron will last a whole four months. It's just an uneducated guess based on limited trial results.

Remember, Regeneron is only used on critical cases. Trump is either critical or overmedicated and propped up on steroid, hoping to make it past November 3rd.

When he drops, it going to be with a thud.

It would seem that the one sure way to get people to vote is to threaten to take their right to vote away. That's why most dictators get their handpicked puppets in the Congress or the courts to do away with voting before taking over absolute power.

Surprise! Huge early vote bodes well for avoiding electoral disaster.

As [Michael McDonald, who runs the United States Elections Project] told me, in swing states such as Florida, North Carolina and Arizona, elections officials are very likely to be able to count the mail votes quickly, in part because of their vote-counting rules, and in part because so many voters will have gotten in their ballots earlier than expected.

McDonald noted that the quick count of mail ballots in those states - particularly with so many Democrats getting in ballots early for Joe Biden - could help preempt a scenario in which Trump is leading on election night, allowing him to prematurely declare victory.

That's because we'll see huge sums of Democratic-heavy mail ballots counted right away, with in-person Election Day voting counted through the night.

"Trump is the one who's going to be catching up on election night" in states like those, McDonald told me. "It's not going to be Biden."

If we're lucky, the date will be January 3rd when a new Senate is sworn in with a Democrat majority.

That will still give him plenty of time to throw his temper tantrums and file his frivolous lawsuits.

The downside of Trump's lawsuits to challenge the results is the deadline of noon, January 20, 2021 when he is no longer president.

Trump's last ace-in-the-hole is the Supreme Court but even they will want to see some concrete evidence briefs. Lawyers can't just walk in there waving their arms in the air and shouting conspiracy theories.

Rudy might end up in some court but it won't be the Supremes. You've probably already heard. He's under investigation for being a Russian tool to deliver misinformation to help Trump win re-election.

Of course, now that the secret is out . . . so is the element of surprise in October.

"In Kentucky, nearly 70 percent of mail ballots cast have come from registered Democrats."

My wife and I voted yesterday in Louisville. Our polling place was very busy, in the middle of the day on a weekday, weeks before Election Day.

State and local officials here have done a great job making voting easier to do. There's no reason to make voting hard to accomplish. No matter which party you are in, you should be willing to support a simplified voting process.
