In a private call with his Nebraska constituents, Republican Sen. Ben Sasse tore into President Trump over his response to the coronavirus and accused him of being deferential to dictators, among other things.

You had a perfect chance to get rid of him. How did you vote?

Another Never Trumper, until it comes time to vote; then he's an Always Trumper.

F Sasse.

Trump has "flirted with white supremacists"

In much the same way that Monica Lewinsky flirted with Bill Clinton: By giving a BJ.

Sorry Noles, but I gotta call you out on that one.

He had plenty of chances to express his disapproval when it could have mattered. This is about self-preservation and nothing more. It's a good sign though for sanity, even if it's politically tainted.

CNN is a far more credible Source and they quoted him as saying the following:

"The way he kisses dictators' butts. I mean, the way he ignores that the Uyghurs are in literal concentration camps in Xinjiang right now. He hasn't lifted a finger on behalf of the Hong Kongers," Sasse said in response to a constituent's question about his relationship with Trump and his past criticisms of the President.
"The United States now regularly sells out our allies under his leadership. The way he treats women and spends like a drunken sailor. The ways I criticized President (Barack) Obama for that kind of spending I've criticized President Trump for as well. He mocks evangelicals behind closed doors. His family has treated the presidency like a business opportunity. He's flirted with White supremacists," the Nebraska Republican said.

Meh, call out the senator lol. His words are true enough, but his actions prove he is only out for his own career interests and mindlessly goes along with the party line in order to stay in the good funding graces of the party.

GOPers: Trump is horrible
Also GOPers: go Trump. You've got my support

If all Trump's secret critics in the Senate would put country over party then Pence world be President right now.

Sasse should resign for being a coward.

That's what it amounts to, doesn't it? Cowardice plus self-abasement in hopes of servile rewards.

Many dogs make better people than Sen. Sasse.

When Sasse took office i was actually afraid of him - he seemed like a genuinely principled guy who has a way of speaking that comes off as eminently reasonable. One of the few younger republicans who isnt a complete nerd. But the way he became so subservient to Trump has probably ruined any ambitions he might have had. Now he's just another Trumper, as badly as he wants to be seen otherwise.

Side note, expect to see a lot more of these "leaked" calls in the coming days, especially if Trump stays down in the polls.

Too bad he doesn't have the integrity to say publicly what he obviously knows is true.

People will forget over time. Need an example? Strom Thurmond. Then again maybe they didn't in his case...
