Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, October 16, 2020

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) may have not done herself any favors during a debate with Democratic challenger Theresa Greenfield on Thursday night. The two candidates were each questioned about something essential to many Iowa farmers: the price of soybeans and corn. Greenfield was asked if she knew the price of corn. She not only answered correctly, but also worked in some observations about what those numbers mean to struggling farmers. Yet when Ernst was asked the price of soybeans, she first ducked the question, speaking for more than a minute on trade issues. Then, when asked again about the price of soybeans, she fumbled and got it wrong.

Priceless! (no pun intended)

Ernst exposed herself as completely out of touch with IA farmers, ignorance of and the two most important commodity prices in Iowa. Unable to give even a ballpark price for soybeans, the price she gave for corn was 3x the current price her debate opponent had JUST provided within a penny per bushel.

People in Iowa probably had a giant question mark about Ernst appear in their brains as they witnessed her ignorance of something so incredibly important to a majority of the state already been hurt by Trump's trade war with China.

Could have been worse--she could have been critical of the butter cow at the state fair...

Iowans have a reputation for being politically astute.

Time to prove it.

Ernst has always been just a right wing liar, this is no surprise. The nation would be better off with her out of our government. Such a horrible person should never be elected to a position of power. She is one of the most disgusting members of Congress.

Speaking of a Republican faux pas during a Senatorial debate, what's up with Moscow Mitch's weird chuckle?:

Americans need the bold, science-based COVID relief that House Democrats passed.

While Trump's erratic behavior fails to crush the virus, Moscow Mitch laughs at those suffering the most.

This is what we are up against--and it's beyond despicable. #Vote " #FridayMotivation

I saw an extended video of Mitch's chuckling - that was creepy as hell. That and that smile. Ugh.
Thanks for posting the tweet with the short clip of it, Gal.

That laughing would be a nice campaign commercial.

she will still win...

IA, like my home state of NE,
is a very red state anymore...

Indeed, Omaha, is a ray of hope
in NE (getting bluer by the election),
in an otherwise, hopelessly red state.

sad thing is, IA used to be a very
blue state...

An ad of McConnell laughing would do more than anything to prove he cares about no one but those with deep pockets.

90% of Iowa is farmland. Spends 6 years in Washington and can't look up Iowa's #2 crop before a debate.

The soybeans that China isn't buying, thanks to Trump tariffs?

Aren't they worth about zero?

And then there's Georgia Senator David Perdue's racially tinged pronouncement of Senator Kamala Harris's first name, someone Perdue has worked with for nearly three years so there should have been no excuse for not knowing the proper way to say her name, but he went a bit too far, making what he said into a slur, and of course the crowd, which he was 'heating-up' for Trump, went wild:

Georgia Sen. David Perdue's mispronunciation of Kamala Harris' name draws outrage

Perdue was speaking at a rally for President Trump Friday.

I certainly hope that after he expires a future Democratic Congress and White House take it upon themselves to honor the then-former Senate majority leader by naming a nuclear waste storage site for him or perhaps a federally-owned swamp preserve in some backwater hellhole full of alligators.

It would be emblematic of his legacy.

No no Tony, let's build a statue, then tear it down.

Tearing down a statue is like a lynching. Something these folks can understand.
