"Some meaningful number of voters who are clear-eyed about Trump and his manifest failures"even those who think he is plainly doing a bad job"will stick with the president because they believe Democrats are worse and the media aren't to be trusted.

And these aren't voters who are glued to Fox News and reading Breitbart News. Often they don't think about politics at all"and they certainly don't follow the daily machinations of Washington.

They're typically not on Twitter. Instead they swim in a cultural soup of Trumpism, surrounded by friends, family, and social-media acquaintances who do live more exclusively in a right-wing-media ecosystem.

Even if Biden pulls off a landslide victory, that ecosystem will remain. And so will the dislike of Democrats and distrust of the mainstream media. Getting rid of Trump won't end the opposition's problems."

Corky,

It's almost like you read my mind.

You got one thing wrong though.

I do not "swim in a cultural soup of Trumpism" and my friends and family consist of a mixture of minds though more inclined to be right-wing.

The same attitude about not being glued to Foxnews, neither do I stay glued to Trump's daily commentary apparently as the fanatics of both sides must.

- neither do I stay glued to Trump's daily commentary

Even a cursory read of Trump's nearly incoherent blather and you would see an out-of-control megalomaniac and congenital liar.

Really, that should be enough for anyone.

The above posts were btw article quotes from a study of Trumpers, not my opinion.

Corky,

"Even a cursory read of Trump's nearly incoherent blather"

Ironically, liberals care more about Trump than I do.

Really...my opinion doesn't have any influence on his behavior nor will I take any responsibility for it.

I voted for him but have to control over him.

You might want to rethink that nonsense.

Or do you think yourself not responsible for your actions?

Corky,

I'm responsible for my own actions.

I'm not responsible for yours.

You're responsible for your own actions.

Trump is most certainly guilty of bad decisions which he will deal with.

Liberals are on some guilt trip.

That's your thing...not mine.

Tell us then, who is responsible for your obviously irresponsible voting?

Yeah there is. You could vote for someone who respects his science advisors and is more concerned about the American people than his own political prospects.

So many of the Trump voters were Dubya voters and they never accepted responsibility for him either. I get it, they don't feel as though they should ever take responsibility for anything.....much like Trump who states is out loud that he feels no responsibility for anything that has happened while he has been President.

Bill is a fake Christian.

He votes for a President who:
Is Racist and Sexist
Greedy and steals from everyone he works with
Has had 3 wives
Cheated on all 3 of his wives
Paid pornstars for sex and hush money
Would rather kick the poor than help anyone
Mocks the disabled
Insults everyone who disagrees with him
Brags about groping women

And then Bill pretends it has nothing to do with him.

Why do you think liberals shouldn't be able to fill SCOTUS appointments? Based on the results of the last election, at least half of the country votes for liberals (more than voted for Trump). Why shouldn't half of the Supreme Court reflect the views of the liberal half of the country? There is not a 6-3 conservative majority in this country.

Dems will do ANYTHING to boost their ego. It's quite incredible. The main reason why is because nobody has offered anyone better. The Dems could have offered up a donkey as a candidate and they would have said he's the greatest thing for our country ever, so they aren't objective enough to actually find and train people to become good leaders. Reps are too busy thinking that Trump's loudness and forcefulness are good leadership qualities. And no other viable candidates are available, or at least are not being presented.

There you go, a better and much shorter conclusion that is based in reality, not off of partisan hate.

Who,

"Why shouldn't half of the Supreme Court reflect the views of the liberal half of the country? There is not a 6-3 conservative majority in this country."

Times being what they are (I'm won't go into all the different perspectives...some good...some bad...some for the best...some for the worst) I think we can expect to see more people reaching out to the Democratic Party hoping they can address their needs. That being said the Supreme Court needs to keep mob rule in check.

Our government is a system of checks and balances and works better when one ideology does not control all branches of the government.

#36 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2020-10-21 06:05 PM | Reply

Who,

Along the same line of thinking, we have the Electoral College so that the same hand full of states don't continually decide year after year what is best for the country as a whole.

More checks and balances.

we have the Electoral College so that the same hand full of states don't continually decide year after year what is best for the country as a whole.

So tired of reading this nonsense. Aside from the fact that 80% of Dem votes in 2016 came from places other than NY and CA, we do have the same handful of states deciding the election year after year. It's just states you happen to like better than NY or CA. Stop pretending presidential candidates need national appeal to win the electoral college.

Two-thirds (273 of 399) of the general-election campaign events in the 2016 presidential race were in just 6 states. 94% of the 2016 events (375 of the 399) were in 12 states.

I wish Republicans would be honest about the fact that, more often than not, more people vote for Democrats and that they like the electoral college because it artificially inflates Republican votes.

If the NBA allowed baskets scored by teams from particular favored areas to count for more points than baskets scored by all the other teams, nobody would call that anything other than rigged. So just admit that it's rigged and that you like it that way. I would respect that honesty so much more than this -------- about 65M voters being a "mob" but 62M voters somehow being some distinct minority that needs protection. You don't. You need better ideas, that people actually like, and you don't have them.
