Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, October 21, 2020

Lawyers appointed by a federal judge to identify migrant families who were separated by the Trump administration say that they have yet to track down the parents of 545 children and that about two-thirds of those parents were deported to Central America without their children, according to a filing Tuesday from the American Civil Liberties Union.

Before Trump, actions by the United States which might have been considered as human rights violations were often in the eye of the beholder. In this case, there is no sane view which would describe this situation as anything but mass kidnapping.

Query to all those phony 'Christians' with 'family values': were those judges worth supporting a criminal cabal which has caused the mass separation of families, perhaps for ever? Well...we're waiting...

If we knew who the parents were, how can we not find them? They are probably back in Mexico, so just send the kids there, let Mexico/Ecuador/Guatemala deal with it.

And I saw somewhere like 80% of these kids came with Coyotes. What are we going to do? Give them back to the traffikers?

Liberals act like parents came with these kids and we separated them then and that's just not true most of the time.

Well, it's amazing that you only now seem "interested" in this topic. If you had been following this whatsoever at any time you would know that this administration deliberately did not keep records. This outcome was intentional, to really stop all immigrants by threatening to lose your children forever.

The caravan of immigrant families being attacked, separated and imprisoned were used for your MAGA messaging. There weren't coyotes, MS18 or any of that BS involved so show me your homework - precisely what are you referring to. These families are separated by a cult practicing authoritarian cruelty and unspeakable inhumanity brought against the poorest, neediest and most vulnerable seeking help.

"Liberals" are the only ones who believe these children are immigrating their family members because you are a liar who only propagates lies and distortions from your blatantly bigoted view.

Assuming the following facts are true,if this isn't criminal negligence by ICE and the US government, then nothing is.

1. The kids were originally with their mother or father when apprehended by ICE.
2. ICE intentionally separated the kids from the parent/s.
3. ICE somehow failed to properly track both the location of the kids and the parents at all times when in ICE custody, and/or proceeded with a deportation of the parents without including the kids in the process.

We do know that in at least certain cases this is exactly what happened. ICE officials should be going to jail for this. As I sit here now, I can't think up a real-life analogy for this negligent behavior that captures the horror and the incompetence of what ICE has done.

Since it's been employed by the Trump administration so haphazardly it makes me question that it ever had any use other than to hurt American ideals. To hurt people who are trying to escape horrific conditions and are then imprisoned by their deliverers. To punish those who feel this is inhumane.

The goal post was never to reunite immigrants. I'm not arguing against that, just disgusted at your ignorance and lies about it.

Instead, they encouraged kidnapping. They would be my first subpoenas if I was the Senate Dems, and I'd have the FBI standing outside the hearing room with handcuffs, as they were more than complicit! Honestly, I think the biggest mistake President Obama made was not holding the Banksters accountable. All those folks who got rooked, who lost their homes and their life savings, the Dem base lost their enthusiasm and didn't vote in the midterms and Dems took a bath. I think the reason they lost enthusiasm was because the criminals got to walk free.

President Biden should empanel a bipartisan commission similar to the 9/11 commission with subpoena power and federal prosecutors attached. They should investigate everything that happened over the past four years, from emoluments to Hatch Act violations, to kidnapping and caging kids, to illegal kickbacks to Trump and Kushner etc., to crimes outlined in the Mueller and Senate Intel Committee reports, the attempted destruction of the USPS, and so on. They would write a report at the end recommending ways we can better protect our democracy from a second coming of Trumpism, but also the federal prosecutors could recommend cases to DOJ for grand jury consideration. It can't be seen as a partisan witch hunt if it's being done on a bipartisan bases. Trump gave up any claim to the old boys club policy of not prosecuting your predecessor when he demanded that Barr open investigations into his adversaries and when he pushed this bogus Hunter Biden laptop story and claimed over and over that Joe and before him Hillary were criminals who needed to be prosecuted and shouldn't be allowed to run for POTUS. A POTUS can never again be allowed to use the levers of federal power to try to retain power.

These parents, designated as "unreachable" in Tuesday's court filing, are part of more than 1,000 migrant families who were separated by U.S. border officials before the Trump administration fully implemented its "zero tolerance" crackdown in the spring of 2018.

Advocates have been unable to reach the parents of 545 children who were separated by U.S. immigration authorities at the southern border and who could be eligible for court-mandated reunifications, according to a joint legal filing by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Justice Department.

These parents, designated as "unreachable" in Tuesday's court filing, are part of more than 1,000 migrant families who were separated by U.S. border officials before the Trump administration fully implemented its "zero tolerance" crackdown in the spring of 2018.

The "zero tolerance" policy led to the separation of more than 2,800 migrant families before Judge Dana Sabraw of the U.S. District Court in San Diego brought an end to the practice in June 2018.

Most of the families who remained in the U.S. when the ruling was issued were eventually reunited, but Sabraw authorized a steering committee of advocacy groups to track down the hundreds of parents who were deported without their children. After being located, most opted to have their children brought to their home countries or allowed them to stay in the U.S. with other family members, waiving their right to reunification.

But in October 2019, the U.S. government revealed it had separated an additional 1,556 children from their parents between the summer of 2017 and June 2018, including during a pilot program for the "zero tolerance" policy in El Paso, Texas. The steering committee then set out to locate the 1,030 families for which the government provided contact information, since Sabraw said they could be eligible for reunification if they remained separated.

So far, the committee has located the parents of 485 of these children, but continues to look for the parents of 545 minors, two-thirds of whom are believed to have been deported to their home countries. Efforts to reach these parents using phone numbers provided by the government were unsuccessful.

Trumps actions are illegal. If taken in a war they would be a warcrime.

I blame the parents and you should too. You excuse what the parents are doing, which is wrong. And you are calling me a POS just because I dont hold your view..

I'm calling you a POS because you're justifying horrible, cruel things.

That are being done to children. CHILDREN boaz.

Enforcing immigration laws and tightening up the border does not necessitate these actions. These actions, this CHILD ABUSE, was willfully done to punish parents and create a disincentive.

There is no justifying that while maintaining you're a decent, moral person.

Correct. By their parents. Doing an illegal act. Entering a country incorrectly. They need to come in the FRONT door. That's why we have a process.

I disagree. It's funny to hear a liberal like you talk about "morals" considering what the democrat/liberal establishment has done to decency and morals to our culture since the 60's. It's laughable.

Probably because you know this was an unnecessary evil but can't admit you support evil.

As for the other goal post shift, whatever. First of all, I wasn't around since the sixties so it's irrelevant. Second, you support child abuse so, yet again, "c-c-conservatives" take a fat ---- on their supposed principles and morals for political expediency.

Seeking asylum is perfectly legal. Wrong again Boaz. OOPSIE DAISY.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that he's partially right and they were seeking asylum incorrectly.

How is breaking up families and, probably permanently, separating parents from their children legally required? Why was that necessary to enforce the laws that were broken? Why, if it was necessary, wasn't a system in place to ensure the children were reunited with their parents when they were deported?

Boaz can't or won't answer any of those. Because he can't, not without admitting what a POS Trump is.

#79 | Posted by jpw at 2020-10-22 11:06 AM | Reply

"How is breaking up families and, probably permanently, separating parents from their children legally required?"

The requirement came from a policy that the Trump Administration enacted.

There's certainly nothing in the Constitution which mandates this cruelty.

Though there might be things that are supposed to prevent it. Which might explain why the policy was only legally in force for a few months.

" First, lets get away from probably's, maybe's, etc...it doesnt help the conversation."

On the contrary: it's central to the conversation. "Probably" means it was more likely than not these kids were separated from their parents. If you're going to eliminate "probably ", and deal in absolutes, then you'd have to concede ALL the children were taken from their parents.

As it is, based on the American Thinker article, of the 545 children they can't reconnect, 363 were taken from their parents.

A Christian is a disciple, a learner about Christ. That can be anyone.

Whether someone is "in the faith", as Paul said, is between them and their God, no one else.

Jesus, the namesake of Christianity, never said a word about LGBTQ, gays, or abortion.

In fact, the only mention of abortion is in the Old Testament, where it says a woman should be given 'bitter water' to induce abortion if she's guilty of adultery.

20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband"" 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse""may the Lord cause you to become a curse[b] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. 22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries."

"Then the woman is to say, "Amen. So be it."

Like the "man" having a baby farce. I will never say a man had a baby. That's impossible. A lesbian woman on hormones had a baby, but not a "man".

- Tell me I'm wrong....

You are wrong.

The OT Law was to show the people that they could never live up to God's standard of spiritual perfection while they were in the flesh in a fallen from grace state.

In the OT, they sacrificed animals to cover their sins (because God had to shed animal blood in the Garden to cover them).... continuously they sacrificed because they had sinned, were sinning, and would sin in the future. There was no stopping of sacrifice because they ever stopped sinning!
.
Jesus said that, You have heard it said, meaning the Law, that you shall not murder or commit adulatory or commit any other sin, like anger, envy, jealousy, sloth, greed ect.... but I tell you that if you even THINK such a thing you have sinned.

Again, saying that we cannot live up to God's standard of spiritual perfection, making his one time for all sacrifice necessary.

Paul addressed what you speak of saying that returning to sins is, "like a dog returning to his vomit", but that happens and so does our imperfect thoughts and behavior.

Picking out one's pet peeves like homosexuality or anything else, really, while at the same time being a greedy bastard or even thinking of being one, for example, is a sin in and of itself.

Here's the context - what Paul said before what Boaz chose to use, out of context, to rationalize his hate:

"I (Paul) wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people - not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother (other christians) if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler-not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church[b] whom you are to judge? God judges[c] those outside. "Purge the evil person from among you."

Corinthians 5:9

Paul was explicit on who he admonished for their behavior and it sure wasn't anyone but those in the Church.

It is not up to "Christians" to push their morality on the world. It is the world and the free will to do right and wrong that makes the gospel meaningful. Those that seek through Law to force compliance of everyone to such views of "Christian morality" don't understand what morality is or even means. Nor do those that do such understand why Christ's sacrifice and a true believer's free choice to fully accept Christ is meaningful only in a world of choice.

What scholarly bigotry.

Gotta hand it to whoever originally wrote the Bible.

2020 years later and people still believe that fictional story is the word of God.

It's magical!

Good point, Yav.

I would only add a couple of things about context. One, that Paul was writing corrective letters to churches with specific problems and addressing those problems. Corinth, for example, was a notorious pagan seaport serving the "scum of the earth". To be called a Corinthian in those days was a widely used insult.

The Temple of Aphrodite there, and others, promoted such rituals as mother/son sex... and these church members were former-ish pagans who continued to sometimes practice such rituals.

The thingy we still have in some churches today about women not speaking in church comes from a corrective letter to a young pastor named Timothy who was letting some strong-willed wealthy women in the church push him around. Paul was a bit exasperated and said he would just as soon they didn't speak at all.

Hence we get doctrine made out from out of context correction.

My pastor, a woman, put it this way; Paul was telling Timothy to grow a pair. Which translation may or may not be because she is a grammarian of ancient Greek, lol.

Paul also said that sometimes he didn't know if it was him speaking or the spirit in him. Which is why a good scholarly attitude is that no single scripture is a tenant of the faith. We always find multiple references to things that are.

Nice elucidation, Corky. Exactly.

I find many faults with the legalism Paul brought to the Church via the collected letters, not in his time but post First Century.

The transition from Saul to Paul I liken to that of a smoker becoming and ex-smoker.

Yav

A lot of people, not you, but others, don't understand that Paul was an important Jewish scholar, having studied "at the feet" of the finest Jewish scholar of his time, Gamaliel.

He wasn't one of the plain people, the fishermen disciples of Christ, he was a leading Pharisee.

And his "infirmity" that he speaks of in his letters was probably not physical, it was probably a near-disabling guilt at having been basically an accessory to the murder of Stephen, and his persecution of the early Church in general.

These stories followed him around to churches he established, often by Judaizers trying to disrupt the church.

Mama didnt say it, God did.

Didn't he also say that the old law was no longer to be followed because Jesus was the new Covenant?

Like most big mouth evangelizing Christians, Boaz has probably spent about as much time critically evaluating the texts and timeline of his religion about as much as Trump has on his ACA replacement.

Thank you fellow liberal Christians who actually read and learn about what they are believing instead of just "believing."

The difference between the two is Jimmy Carter vs. Pat Robertson

Or do you not know that the unrighteous[a] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality

"I think God was pretty clear on this...."

I think you're giving Trump a pass on four of the five qualifiers. That would make you a Cafeteria Christian.

You know what's the most aggravating part of reading this thread is?

It's not Boaz who has always been a bigot and a close minded person.

It's the rest of you. Engaging him in discussing why homosexuality is a sin.

Pretty much reads as condoning him. Like. Yea. They're living in sin for being gay. But Jesus died so they can sin.

It's ridiculous through and through and just another reason I find religion abhorrent.

There's zero sin in being born different. Regardless of what your favorite fictional story says.

#173 I see your point but it's eclipsed by the larger point of forgiveness of sins.

We need to work on the concept of forgiveness first. Only then can we extend it to situations that aren't so easily forgivable.

That whole thing where they are gonna stone the woman, and Jesus stops it? Boaz can't figure out that applies to gays too.

I agree that calling anything a sin is not really helpful. It's a strange dogma, to be born of original sin, but to also have it washed away. Seems like you could really cut out the middleman.

Most people, including most Christians, don't know what the word "sin' actually means. Like many words from that era, it has a military origin. When an archer was practicing with a target, or shooting at an enemy, and he "missed the mark", he sinned. Didn't mean he was a bad archer, just that he wasn't perfect.

In the NT, sinning is missing the mark of perfection, which everyone does.

- Seems like you could really cut out the middleman.

Easily. We could have been remote-controlled robots (before they developed freedom of choice) and it would have been all a lot simpler.
