President Trump and his advisers have repeatedly discussed whether to fire FBI Director Christopher A. Wray after Election Day -- a scenario that also could imperil the tenure of Attorney General William P. Barr as the president grows increasingly frustrated that federal law enforcement has not delivered his campaign the kind of last-minute boost that the FBI provided in 2016, according to people familiar with the matter.

Overt weaponizing of DoJ and law enforcement to sway an election.

Righties will of course be fine with such tin pot dictator behavior, in fact they'll probably call for it!

That exactly what I said in another thread. Trump is trying to use Barr and Wray to run the same last minute scam (announce an investigation) on Biden that he used on Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Then he'll fire both of them, just like he did to Jim Comey.

This time, though, Barr is showing some resistance. Barr and Wray are both well aware that loyalty in Trump World only runs one way.

I feel his angst.

I mean, he had Rudy G running around Ukraine paying good money for counterfeit dirt on the Bidens since last year, and now that he's sat on it so long his minions won't risk what's left of their ragged reputations on a fake indictment!

I mean, don't these people know that the President is above the law?

Yes if there's anything trump supporters won't tolerate, it's crime, or family doing political or monetary favors for each other.

It used to be that it was not ok to go after a candidate's kids.

Then conservatives lost (or never had) any ethics or morals. So, they attack an adult that Joe Biden has no control over (not an employee or in any contractual obligation to do what Joe Biden says) but will cause Joe personal angst that he is involved and being dragged through the mud, and think it reflects badly on Biden. Yet, when we see ACTUAL wrongdoing from people who DO have a contractual obligation to Trump (people indicted who were paid contributors to his campaign, but that he has absolutely NO loyalty to even though they did his dirty work for him) then for some reason these same conservatives think that Trump has no responsibility for their actions. The hypocrisy is strong in this one. But, that is part and parcel in bring a conservative.

And, btw, from what I have seen Biden is a great father, who did a great job supporting his (flawed human being, as we all are) son. And that just makes me think even more that you are all scum for dragging his poor son through the mud. Because he did not sign up for this.

We cannot help who we are related to. But we can help who we associate with. Joe Biden is related to a non-perfect son. Which I am positive he does not regret in the least. Trump associates himself with criminals and strongmen and other human scum (like, apparently, the majority of conservative politicians and media).

God, I need to get away from all the crappy people (mostly conservatives) in this country.

Stand tall and be strong. This will all be over soon. Try to concentrate on how much fun we're all going to have watching Trump try to negotiate terms with the ghosts of his past.

#9 - Trump is the tool and who is the cause celebre to kill our existing country in it's sleep and replace it with a quasi-religious pseudo-democracy with an ultimate goal to become autocratic and exclusive of any color except straight Christian white, Mike Pence. Fortunately, the tool selection is the wrong tool for the intended treachery. Trump's re-election bid will be defeated by something so tiny it can't be seen except under a SEM. But Trump will utilize American mob-boss extortion and dance Scot-free on the graves of hundreds of thousands of innocent Americans - if he pardons himself and doesn't precipitate a civil war. Biden inherits the biggest mess in U.S. history, far worse than FDR or Reconstruction. Mike Pence wanders around aimlessly, desperately seeking another rump to kiss. In this administration, being fired by Trump is almost a badge of courage. His outrage at the performance of his senior staff comes from their defiance of his personality, his mental illness and his penchant for criminal-style behavior. Those who stay through this administration, or who leave on 'good terms' are the ones whose resumes will be soiled by their fealty to a man so bent he resembles a hairy, talking pretzel...

This explains everything. He "feels" like he has a get out of jail card, so there is no bottom. Thus, he's also going to incite a brief and stupid civil "war" we will unfortunately have to now include as our history everhence. He's as close to the penocrasy as has ever existed, so at least we'll be a punchline in some kids play, "ORANGES YOU GLAD I DIDN'T WIN RE-ELECTION"

What's funny is that the latest Dotard bomb was bringing Hunter Biden's former business partner, Anthony Bobulinski to the debate last night. Bobulinski alleges that Joe new about a 2017 venture in which they would partner with a Chinese energy company to invest in the US and elsewhere. Excuse me for my lack of knowledge, but was Joe Biden in government in 2017? I didn't think so. So basically there was no influence to pedal. Anyway the Journal did their due diligence and reported that from their examination of the corporate records, "The Wall Street Journal show no role for Joe Biden."

Wray is only out if Trump wins. Firing your FBI Director and appointing a sycophant to investigate or indict your opponent this close to the election would be obvious even to the biggest mouth breather out there. I fail to see how it could possibly move the needle.

#18 | Posted by JOE at 2020-10-24 07:51 AM | Reply

What's a bit more likely to happen is Wray or Barr will release a memo that basically says nothing, is packed with legalese that most people don't understand, but contains just enough that Trump can twist it into a political attack on Joe Biden via his son.

#19 | Posted by JOE at 2020-10-24 07:54 AM | Reply

JOE

In 2016 just the word "investigation" was enough.

Barr is dragging his feet and Trump is having a conniption fit.

Wray looks like he's standing in front of a firing squad.

Trump is threatening to fire them both.

What do you think is going on here?

I find it hard to believe Barr is having a sudden attack of conscience.

#20 | Posted by Twinpac at 2020-10-24 08:32 AM | Reply

Trump is out of October surprises. Barr was his last hope.

Of course, there's still one more option:

Trump could set fire to the Reichstag building . . er . . . I mean the White House.

#20 I think he's openly trying to pressure them to do something inappropriate to assist him politically, the implication being that if he wins they get a chance to keep their jobs.

I don't count Barr out to do something next week. I'd be more surprised if he didn't.

I was hoping Barr was waiting to the last minute to resign before Nov. 3 so Trump's wouldn't have time to fish the DOJ ranks for another Roy Cohen.

So " inappropriate" that Barr would risk losing his license to practice law and could possibly face legal action himself.

That would be a big price to pay for allowing himself to get dragged even deeper into Trump's federal crimes should Biden's Justice Department decide to pursue that action.

I have a lot faith in politicians jumping ship to save themselves.

Americans weigh firing Trump.

I don't think releasing a facially accurate memorandum that provides Trump a lane to twist things into something they're not would put Barr's license at risk. He isn't stupid; he knows how to thread a needle.

#26 | Posted by JOE at 2020-10-24 03:51 PM | Reply

JOE

"He [Barr] isn't stupid; he knows how to thread a needle."

I agree that Barr isn't a stupid man. So far, he's managed to keep his foot just inches inside the law for the last four years. I was just thinking that perhaps falsifying or manufacturing evidence to make make such an "announcement" this close to the election is threading the needle one too many times.

You're the lawyer. You know more than me. It just seems to me that falsifying a cause merely to announce the appointment a special prosecutor, without evidence, and to obviously influence the outcome of this election, is illegal and could subject a federal official in Barr's position to charges.

#27 | Posted by Twinpac at 2020-10-25 06:52 AM | Reply

#27 That's the thing; Barr wouldn't falsify anything. Barr could release a memo that basically says "FBI and DOJ are looking into' the following conduct by Joe and Hunter Biden _________" and then let Trump run with it. I think you're missing how little Barr would actually have to say in order to give Trump something to weaponize.

#28 | Posted by JOE at 2020-10-25 11:06 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

JOE

That would be the minimum alright. Trump is going for the jugular. Barr is reticent. I can't see Trump accepting half measures on a one-shot deal. Trump needs a 'one and done' shot to win.

I suppose he could still fire Barr and fish the ranks of the DOJ for an Acting Director that wouldn't require Senate confirmation. Another Roy Cohn IF he can find one.
