Tesla is beta-testing its latest self-driving technology with a small group of early adopters, a move that alarms experts and makes every road user -- including other motorists, pedestrians and cyclists -- unwitting subjects in its ongoing safety experiment.

...Why it matters: Tesla hailed the limited rollout of its "full self-driving" beta software as a key milestone, but the warnings on the car's touchscreen underscore the risk in using its own customers -- rather than trained safety drivers -- to validate the technology....

Yup, Mr Musk has said a lot of things. Most of which seem to have turned out to be incorrect.

Now he is saying that Tesla has self-driving functionality working in its vehicles, and the general public has to participate in what looks like the beta testing (if it even has reached the beta-test stage), whether they are willing participants or not.

To my eyes, it looks like yet another case of the legalities not keeping up with technology...

And given the current structure of our government we will never keep up because technology is evolving at an accelerating rate while we're stuck with processes designed in the 1800's that the "conservatives" don't want to change. It takes too long to respond and is bogged down by special interests. Long term, this is unsustainable.

Have you ever read about why we vote on Tuesdays?

The origination of the reasoning, contextually in the current generation, is absolutely, absurd considering how it hampers people's ability to exercise their right to vote.

"Nevada was the first state to authorize the operation of autonomous vehicles in 2011. Since then, 21 other states"Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Vermont"and Washington D.C. have passed legislation related to autonomous vehicles. Governors in Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin have issued executive orders related to autonomous vehicles."

"Governors in Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin have issued executive orders related to autonomous vehicles."

"Since 2012, at least 41 states and D.C. have considered legislation related to autonomous vehicles"

Surprisingly ahead of the curve, but their Autopilot is just a smart cruise control so regulation isn't far behind in the places it is needed.

So, this is more of a marketing part of his system upgrading. Now they can do automated lane-changes. Amazing.

Elon Musk's own Twitter.

Teslas are petroleum products.

Big oil is Big Energy, which owns Big Green.

Sitz you are highly critical of Elon but not Trump. Both are BS artists running businesses dependent on other people's money. At least Elon has built one successful business.
Tesla looks like a ponzi scheme but it's cars are okay.
Just curious why the Tesla hate.

I have relatives that work for Tesla and they hate how Elon treats staff.

In the real world, people know that oil companies funded short sellers who were willing to lose money betting against tesla in order to suppress the stock price.
www.thisismoney.co.uk
" Wealth manager boss Ross Gerber says short sellers are being backed by Big Oil
He said it was in the interest of these firms to talk down Tesla
This is because they stand to lose billions if electric cars become widespread"

You didn't compile that list from elon's twitter. Someone did it to help people like you make a case against tesla. Why can't you tell us who that was?
