...The Connecticut Food Bank spoke Friday with Oliver's team and is "working on receipt" of the $25,000 donation, spokesman Paul Shipman said. ALS Connecticut already received its $5,000 donation.

"John's gift represents help and hope to the hundreds of individuals living with ALS and their families, who turn to us when ALS becomes a reality," Sandy Tripodi, executive director of The ALS Association CT Chapter, said in an email. "We are truly grateful for his generosity."

She also thanked the Danbury Hat Tricks, who inspired Oliver to donate to the chapter.

The coronavirus pandemic has increased demand for food in the state, Shipman said.

"This entire process was an unusual twist on community philanthropy that will do a great deal of good for many people," he said in an email.

Oliver already fulfilled his promise to donate $25,000 to projects for Danbury teachers in exchange for the name.
