I knew when he cozied up to the southern religious faction, that that was a bad bad thing.

I went to the right after voting and supporting JFK.
To the right means Conservative. Republican is not something I use to describe my life
Conservative means being careful with lifestyle and money. It means paying your bills on time. It means being a good father, husband grampa and greatgrampa.
It means holding down a job and paying taxes.
It means respecting family values. If it was good enough for my Sicilian born Grandparents, it's good enough for me.

But they go full crazy everytime...finding candidates even worse than trump. Promise to shut down the oil industry? You deserve to lose.

This will be 3 out of 5 in the last half-century exposed for corruption and leaving office in disgrace. The two others... Bushturd1 used his one term to give Reagoon's and one of the most corrupt administrations in US history a soft landing into senility... then he started a war to cover that little turd.

Why don't CONSERVATIVES care about CONSERVING the planet? Why do they put polluters in charge of the EPA?
The only thing they want to CONSERVE are oil profits.

And "paying your bills on time?" You conservatives just passed tax cuts for billionaires that left a giant financial hole that your kids will have to pay for. Since when did mooching off your grandkids become "conservative".

Family values? Like ------- a porn star without a condom while your THIRD wife is at home nursing your newborn baby? Or separating children from their parents to terrify potential immigrants? Great family values there.

Every thing you think about your party is obviously not true. Youre simply stupid to believe anything you just wrote.

Well, one candidate tries to live the beatitudes; one breaks half the Commandments on a regular basis.

They're voting for the latter, so I'd say "no".

Republicans have looked the other way on Trump's adultery, stealing from a children's charity, coveting his neighbor's goods, bearing false witness, and coveting his neighbor's wife.

World-class hypocrites, or world-class idiots; take your pick. One undeniable fact: Trump follows neither of Jesus' two central tenets: loving God, and treating others the way he'd like to be treated.

Jesus was asked what are the 2 greatest commandments.

He said the first is to Love God with all your Heart Soul and Mind.

And the second was to love your neighbor as you love yourself.

I believe Jesus would point out that any religion teaches to love your neighbor. Any sinner...any heathen...and atheist teaches to love your neighbor.

Jesus would say, I believe, "Do you love the Father?" Jesus would put that first.

Without love for God, you are not pleasing God.

The USA has more people in prison than anywhere else? Correction officer unions pay both parties. We have for-profit prisons in this country- does that seem right? Failed drug wars, racists police, and politicians that are eternally "tough on crime" are to blame.

The GOP would never trust someone like that even if he is one of their own.

They'd go with someone like Mike Pompeo in 2024, current Secretary of State and former CIA Director.

He's no spineless Casper Milquetoast for campaign purposes. But he is joined at the hip with the GOP's mission to convert America's system of democracy into a one party rule forever.

I would like to believe in a
country where the populous wasn't
filled with greedy, racist, self-
serving people; with cheaters and
liars, and those who live in
fictional fantasy worlds of
misinformation and skewed perspectives.
But sadly, there will always be those,
who 'drink from the Liar's Cup' and
want the lie to be true. In a damaged
country, where some have to be written
off as beyond reach and hope, one can
only seek to minimize the damage, only
attempt to slow the spread.

Which party most closely adheres to this. It's a test Jesus gave:

31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37 "Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40 "The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'

41 "Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44 "They also will answer, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45 "He will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Which party sought to slash school lunch funding? Food stamps?

Who seeks to slash social safety nets while giving tax cuts to people like the rich man who turned the beggar away in The Rich Man and Lazarus?

By rights, the Republican party should be on it's way to the political graveyard. Fortunately, the Dems will be there to reinvigorate interest in the party.

Right now, the Dems are united in their effort to defeat Trump. Once that has been accomplished, the uneasy truce between the center and left wings of the party will be over. And the left will soon be demanding their cut. If Biden sides with the left wing, he risks alienating the center who would have no other choice but to vote Republican. If he ignores the left, they'll take their votes elsewhere in the next election, which would also be a win for the Republicans.

- Jesus is talking to individuals, not the government.

Wrong in so many ways. For one, the first church was never a charity, it was a straight out commune where people sold all they had and took care of each other, not outsiders. After his death, the church grew without that requirement as to exist in many nations.

And there is no prescription anywhere in the bible that forbids a gov of, by, and for the People from deciding that taking care of themselves and others in a kind and loving way is a good thing to do.

#115 | Posted by Corky at 2020-10-26 04:20 PM | Reply

Corky, you are wrong. Salvation is an individual relation with Christ. The example given in #97 is what an individual does for the hungry, poor, etc. The gov't can't save you. In the early church, there was also, if you don't work, you don't eat. You cannot pick and choose specific verses to make a point. The whole Bible is the Word of God. The people sold and gave what was in their heart to give.. It was not mandatory and the people were able to have their own material goods. It was not communal. Christianity is a heart issue, not an outward phony baloney religion. Read about Ananias and Saphira. Jesus changes our heart and that is why we are "born again." We are all sinners deserving Hell, until God regenerates the individual.

The dems in leadership don't care for the poor. They only want their votes so they can stay in power and that is why they want the welfare state. Look at all the leaders in the Dem party (Repubs also), they are all very wealthy and they have done nothing except work for the people????? The dem party is all about being a victim and promising everything is free. At least the repubs. think you should work and give back to society.

Repubs don't think they should work. They think THE POOR should work, and the rich should be able to inherit so much money that they never have to lift a finger.

A famous Dem once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Being lazy and depending on the gov't free handouts, goes against that. Free, Free, Free, that is what the leaders say, but nothing is free.

Everyone should work. That is why there should be term limits on all gov't leaders, so they would actually work for once.

What you don't understand is that Christians are obligated to vote. By your standards, we would not be able to vote for anyone because they all fall short of God's standard, every single on of them. If you think that the Dems are righteous and pure, you must be blind. As a Christian, I don't look to see which candidate lives up to the standard of the Bible, because none do and I don't expect them to do so. I don't believe Trump is a Christian anymore than I believe Pelosi is a Christian. There are very few true Christians in Gov't. But, I don't lean on the gov't to take care of me, nor am I suppose to (that is also in the Bible). I try to elect people who will defend Christians and not trample on our religious freedoms. That does not come from anyone on the left. They hate Jesus and all that He stands for. By the Way, St Peter is not the one that I have to answer to. I will face (as will everyone else) God when I die and if I go in by my own merits, I will visit you in Hell, but I don't go in that way. I go in in the name of Jesus and He covers all my sins. For He was the only one who lived a perfect sinless life. That is also in the Bible. You should pick it up again and read it. It is the only thing that will give you peace and joy.

What the Bible says about marriage is that it is between a man and woman. Plus, it says that a Christian is not to marry a non Christian. Also, God hates divorce and divorce can only happen because of adultery or abandonment. I don't make up the rules, God does. So, once again, you need to read it and learn what it says. Don't come and give me a bunch of what abouts, mankind sins. Oh, and I won't respond to anything else you have to say because you are one who doesn't have any rational thought when you post things, such as your last two posts.

Corky, just like all Dems, you love to lie. I never said I go in by my own merits. You need to learn to read like Snoofy. Why did God kill Ananias and Saphira. Because they lied to the Holy Spirit. They land was theirs and they could have given what they wanted. Read it. They didn't have to give it all or any if they didn't want to, they lied and God struck them down. He is a merciful God, but He is also Just. We don't want His justice place on us. God loves a cheerful giver. Just because one gives, that doesn't mean it pleases God. If you give with wrong motives, that is a sin. Jesus talks about the Heart in the Sermon on the Mount.

We are Saved by Faith alone in Christ alone and it is by Grace alone, it is a gift, we didn't earn it. But Salvation is in the Work of Christ. If your Faith is not in Christ, you are not saved by that Faith. AS Jesus says, "I am the Way the Truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me." (just so you don't lie some more, I am talking about Jesus Christ, not myself).

You know who the bad guys are in the bible, OT and NT? The very wealthy who have no concern for the poor.

www.openbible.info

Do you know that the economics practiced by the party you vote for are not called Trickle Down economics for nothing?

Here's how they got that way:

www.rollingstone.com

There is no admonition anywhere in the bible about a gov of, by, and for the People not being able to decide that they want to make sure that the people of the country have fair laws, fair taxes, and a good social safety net.

GOP tax cuts are always skewed to help wealthy individuals and corporations at the expense of average person. This is historical fact, and has made it possible for 26 billionaires to control more wealth worldwide than nearly 4 billion people.

It's a scam; a poker game where one player has 1 million dollars, writes the rules of the game, changes them when he wants, and gives the other players 100 dollars each.

You may want to use your faith in some kind of rwing theocracy where religion supports that game, but count me out.

"What the Bible says about marriage is that it is between a man and woman."

The Bible also allows abortion, suggests fetuses don't immediately have a soul, and equates being gay with getting a haircut, wearing a poly-cotton shirt, or having a shrimp cocktail.

Which rules do you pick at the Christian Cafeteria?

#133 | Posted by Danforth at 2020-10-27 01:02 AM | Reply

What appears to be less than obvious to the rwing brand of "christian" is that the rules went out 2000 years ago and were replaced by grace and faith. Any judgements one hears based upon "rules" is purely self-invented, and usually self-serving.

#134 | Posted by Corky at 2020-10-27 01:07 AM | Reply

Corky,

You are aware the "grace" only comes with faith?

Christianity does not teach grace is available just because you say you believe in a God or that you believe God is naturally gracious and loving.

Christianity teaches this grace is given under the stipulation you believe it is true that Christ died for you. Jesus was the singular sacrifice rather than the never ending sacrifices Jews had to do in the Old Testament.

You just have to accept it as your truth.

#135 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2020-10-27 01:08 PM | Reply

Corky,

It's a simple concept really.

All you have to do is believe Jesus was born Divine, admit you are a sinner and want to be forgiven in Jesus name as He said would be done and openly share your decision with another Christian. Jesus asks us to pray in private but share your faith openly. Jesus said where 2 or more gather in His name, you have a church the way I see it. Simple.

Certainly many churches and preachers have made a life out of making it more complicated for "self serving" reasons just as you said.
