Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Several members of Vice President Mike Pence's inner circle, including at least [five] members of his staff, have tested positive for the coronavirus in the past few days, people briefed on the matter said, raising new questions about the safety protocols at the White House, where masks are not routinely worn. Devin O'Malley, a spokesman for Mr. Pence, said that the vice president's chief of staff, Marc Short, had tested positive. A person briefed on the diagnosis said he received it on Saturday.

"Vice President Pence and Mrs. Pence both tested negative for Covid-19 today, and remain in good health," Mr. O'Malley said, adding, "While Vice President Pence is considered a close contact with Mr. Short, in consultation with the White House Medical Unit, the vice president will maintain his schedule in accordance with the C.D.C. guidelines for essential personnel."

The statement did not come from the White House medical unit, but instead from a press aide. Two people briefed on the matter said that the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, had sought to keep news of the outbreak from becoming public.

The decision by Mr. Pence, who leads the White House Coronavirus Task Force, to continue campaigning is certain to raise new questions about how seriously the White House is taking the risks to their own staff members and the public from the pandemic that has killed more than 224,000 people in the United States. Mr. Short has been among those within the White House who have questioned the extensive lockdowns across the country.

It's one thing to intentionally downplay a viral pandemic that is killing Americans at a clip of over 700 per day as current infections continue to climb all across the nation, but it's simply something else to have infected people from within the Executive branch itself being among those potentially accentuating the spread because of their own refusal to take proper mitigation protocols seriously.

With allegedly the most sophisticated and repetitive testing available to any Americans, Trump's White House cannot even keep their own personnel - including the POTUS, his wife, and his own son - from contracting the virus, then why in holy hell should anyone believe that this same President is capable of keeping America safe when he's already proven himself to be the worst in the world at doing so?

Protect yourself - Fire Trump.

I have some doubts about this report. The same as I had when A.G. Barr announced the same thing.

It seem to me they've all found a convenient exit ramp to get the hell out of there (quarantine) before the 'cow pies' hit the fan.

To combat the virus, you have to be the virus - Coronavirus Task Force

"Antibody tests can tell if someone has been infected with COVID-19. But the infected person doesn't begin producing antibodies immediately. an take as long as three weeks for a blood antibody test to turn positive. That's why it is not useful as a diagnostic test for someone with new symptoms."

The 'head' of the Coronavirus Task Force is still going to hit the campaign trail rather than quarantine.

That is as reckless as it gets. Way to give the middle finger to everyone else.

Unlike the rest of us, he'll get Regeneron - given to 11 patients so far, including Trump - and nothing but taxpayer funded platinum medical care if he gets sick.

To them, they deserve it.

That's why the can be so cavalier about this. They, in their minds, are owed the best medical care available even if they behave recklessly.

Welcome to the new American royalty.

The president and his staff including the VP and staff have always been royalty in this country.

Nothing new about it. That's part of what's so ------ up about the US. We treat public servants like absolute monarchs.

Huh, I heard we were rounding the turn? I guess it's more like he's rounding the bend.

"Vice President Pence and Mrs. Pence both tested negative for Covid-19 today..."

Lucky us: The head of the Coronavirus Task Force doesn't understand asymptomatic contagion.

What could possibly go wrong?

"I guess it's more like he's rounding the bend."

It's more like dead brain cells rattling around in his head.

So...the folks tasked with protecting us, can't even protect themselves?!?

Don't worry about Pence. One must be a living being to contract Covid. They just run Plastic Mike through the dish machine every night, pour some bleach down his gullet, rinse him out and return him to the campaign trail...
