Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that he saw nothing criminal in Hunter Biden's past business ties with Ukraine or Russia, marking out his disagreement with one of Donald Trump's attack lines in the U.S. presidential election.

Putin appeared less friendly towards Trump in remarks broadcast by Russian state TV on Sunday. In what may be seen by some analysts as an attempt to try to curry favour with the Biden camp, he took the time to knock down what he made clear he regarded as false allegations from Trump about the Bidens.

Putin also reacted with visible irritation when asked about comments Trump has made concerning Putin's ties to the former mayor of Moscow, and to an alleged payment made to Hunter Biden by the ex-mayor's widow. Putin said he knew nothing about the existence of any commercial relationship between Hunter and the woman. Joe Biden says the accusation about his son is not true.

Putin's no dummy no matter how ruthless he is. Why all of a sudden did he decide to drop a truth bomb on his own disinformation campaign being run quite ineptly by his personal stooge President Trump?

This might be the confirmation that even Putin himself realizes that nothing can be done to save Trump this year, even with all their enhancements. The hole might be far too large for the Russians to fill - so Putin deftly threw a couple shovels of dirt just to be on the record as having defended the Biden's honor from Trump's unsubstantiated malevolent lies.

@#1 ... Why all of a sudden did he decide to drop a truth bomb on his own disinformation campaign ...

Russia, from the beginning, has used Pres Trump as a useful idiot.

When a Young Trump Went to Russia (2018)
newrepublic.com

...In 1987, the real estate tycoon visited the country to explore a hotel deal. Is that when he became compromised by Russian security services?...

Pres Putin's apparent change of direction is tactical, not strategic.

The strategic goal of sowing discontent and chaos in the United States is still present.

However, Pres Putin may have realized that Pres Trump is no longer useful to that end aim, since Pres Trump has become weak enough that he might lose the election.

The question in my mind becomes...

If Pres Putin is really ditching Pres Trump..

Who will Pres Putin be recruiting for the required tasks?

Pres Putin seems to have a rather deep command and control capability within the Republican Party via the NRA et al.

Who will be the next Chosen One?

Trump is an apparent Loser, and Vlad is dropping him for Xi Jinping. He signaled this the other day when he said that the US was no longer the Superpower, but that China is, and opened the door for military ties.

Trump feels SO used.! Wait until he gets Vlad on twitter!

@#4 ... He signaled this the other day when he said that the US was no longer the Superpower, but that China is, and opened the door for military ties. ...

Coincident with that was Pres Xi gloating over how China beat the United States in Korea, over how weak the United States was.

It certainly sounds like Pres Putin and Pres Xi coordinated their respective messages to show the weakness of the United States on the world stage.

But isn't that what the Trump supporters wanted? The removal of the United States as a leader in world freedom?

Elections have consequences, as many are so apt to say.

We are only starting to see the very beginnings of such consequences.

We didn't know the details but I think some of us saw Putin's support for Trump start to wane months ago. I'm glad to see the truth finally come out. I'm surprised that their relationship lasted as long as it did considering what a screwup Trump turned out to be.

I guess we don't have to wonder any more about who was going to throw whom under the bus first.

...considering what a screwup Trump turned out to be.

I'm sure that's why Vlad had him elected in the first place. Toss the stink bomb and wait.

imho... Pres Putin's support of Pres Trump has not been to support Pres Trump, per se.

But more to support chaos in our government.

To that end, Pres Trump played right into Pres Putin's hand.

The Useful Idiot whose ego was stroked.

I agree, but to what end? Trump was expected to get two term. That's the screwup part I was talking about. Now Putin has to start all over again in 2024 or 2028 with somebody who will finish the job. It's the same with what's left of the Republican party. I don't call that a win for Putin. I'm sure he expected a bigger bang for his buck than Donald Trump delivered.

@#11 ... but to what end? ...

Chaos in our government.

In Pres Putin's view, chaos in our government equals a weak United States. And a weak United States means a relatively stronger Russia on the world stage.

Pres Putin is desperately trying to regain the respect for Russia that it once had.

.. Now Putin has to start all over again in 2024 or 2028 with somebody who will finish the job.

I suspect he already has ample people to manipulate to that end.

Think of Ms Butina's efforts with the NRA and other Republicans. Do you think she was in the United States because she liked us? Really.

Think of the people at Trump rallies who wore the "I'd rather be Russian than Democratic" t-shirts. How deeply has Russia penetrated the Republican Party?

Just where do you think Republicans are sitting on this issue?

Are they more against Democrats...

... or Russia.

"Just where do you think Republicans are sitting on this issue?"

Certainly not where the RNC expected to be on October 26, 2020 with a one term president.

"Pres Putin is desperately trying to regain the respect for Russia it once had."

True, but when Russia has power, it has respect. Trump screwed up when was counted on to help Russia start expanding its power base to it's former glory as the U.S.S.R. Without going into long details, that's what that business in Ukraine was all about.

"How deeply has Russia penetrated the Republican Party."

Much deeper than passing out free propaganda t-shirts for people to wear at rallies. I think it will be a while before we, as Americans, find out the truth about the RNC. At first blush, it seems the RNC attempted to pull off one the biggest upsets in the history of the United States, a Unitary Executive, which means one party rule forever.

I doubt we'll ever know how Russia stood to benefit from a Unitary Executive form of government in America but I think it's safe to assume it had a lot to do with the U.S military assisting with their expansion into Eastern Europe and the restoration of the former U.S.S.R.

I've come to believe that the real Quid Pro Quo was between the RNC and Russia, while Trump was the puppet who did the dirty work. I've come to believe that the RNC's agenda (Unitary Executive), and the smokescreen of chaos Trump created, was meant to benefit the RNC more than Russia.

If we, as a country, ever want to ferret out the truth behind this whole inkblot on our society we have to look beyond the end of our nose at the power behind power and who is really pulling the strings. I think it was the RNC.

This is Putin denying that the Hunter Biden laptop story is a Russian disinformation operation. The prevailing belief among the National Security folks is that Putin is behind the laptop story. Here Putin is casting doubt on the veracity of the story, this is denial that he was involved. Now the Cultists will scream, "see, I told you it was real," thus keeping the story alive.

Actually I think you guys are all overthinking this. Mission accomplished. I mean Putin will continue to employ Festering Boils to troll us, but the newfound alliance to China (See: TPP failure: Consequences) is basically the announcement that Trump has served his purpose.

He's trying to go easy on Biden to avoid another (or an intensified) Cold War.

Truth is, like Bin Laden, Putin won.

Now it's a one vs. two power play.
