Victoria in Australia has recorded no new Covid-19 cases for the first time since Melbourne - the state capital - went into lockdown 111 days ago. The state was the epicentre of Australia's second wave, accounting for over 90% of the country's 905 deaths.

So the virus CAN be controlled.

Just not in America under the cheerleadership of Donald J Trump.

We had over 59,000 yesterday, over 75,000 Saturday and over 85,000 last Friday. USA! USA! USA!

Some fool was just on tube saying that "lockdowns" don't work.

I really wish they would stop that.

It's not about "locking down". And Democrats are not calling for shutdowns.

It's about behaving and acting responsibly and safely.

If you can open safely. Open!! If you cannot open safely then the local, state and federal government should help you. Just as they would if you were under attack by any enemy. Even one that is so small you cannot see it.

Amazing how other countries have found ways to beat the virus.

China is rebounding huge. Huge events, no masks, etc.

And here because people couldn't be bothered to stay home or wear masks in the name of Freedumb, we are crushing new case records and deaths.

It makes me effing ill.

"And here because people couldn't be bothered to stay home or wear masks in the name of Freedumb, we are crushing new case records and deaths."

This weekend was rough in my neighborhood. 12:30 am Saturday I went to my fourth floor window to scowl at the group of bros, 12 or 13 20 somethings, screaming the lyrics to piano man at full volume, then watch them enter my building's courtyard where they went to an apartment across from me that was having a party. There had to be thirty people in that apartment, singing, dancing, drinking, standing close to one another. Sidewalk restaurants have been crowded and ignoring social distancing for over a month now, but this was the first time I saw somebody throw a party like that in my building. This time last year that was a weekly thing, apart from the Billy Joel which is unacceptable no matter what. Chelsea has really jumped the shark.

Meanwhile, here in my corner of America we're seeing record new COVID cases.

And North Dakota - where they're experiencing a crisis - has a plan to give $16 million in COVID relief funds for fracking grants to oil companies. That relief money is supposed to go to "necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency with respect to the Coronavirus Disease 2019." Somehow, the $16 million in fracking grants is getting wedged into that category.

This is how Republicans treat their citizens. They could buy everyone in the state N95 masks, help out hospitals and front line health care workers, and a host of other worthy efforts, but no.
