Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, October 27, 2020

Olivia Nuzzi has an excellent look at the "tortured self-justification of one very powerful Trump-loathing anonymous Republican." Said the Republican of President Trump: "I thought he would lose! I mean, everyone thought he would lose. The idea that he won is still shocking. This is a man who is so completely alien to what this country -- the best principles of what this country is about. When I think about the fact that a hundred years from now, people will look back and say, How the fuck did they think this was normal?,' it makes me sad for the country. He's a permanent scar on the face of our country."

The cited article could be about half the length it is. That aside...

If this allegedly so very powerful Republican is afraid to speak his mind...

What does that say about the current Republican party?

To my ear, it makes it sound even more like the Republican Party is actively supporting a dictator in the Oval Office.

"This is a man who is so completely alien to what this country "

That's the worse part. It's not alien at all to a large minority. It's Jerry Springer nation. Things like Qanon are easy for anyone to master, and provide a sense of belonging. Lack of challenge to any whose self-concept is already fatally challenged is sweet ambrosia; being part of a clique takes many back to sweet high school, when they bullied the nerds.

"What does that say about the current Republican party?"

It means that they treat him as a means to an end, like Boaz has been saying for a while now (when he's not actively defending him). Tax cuts and court packing. On that score Trump has been a resounding success. Little else matters.

"What does that say about the current Republican party?"

That they'll fear Trump until they don't have to.

And not 1 minute sooner.

It means that most Republicans are unprincipled pieces of ----. As if we did not already know that.

@#3 ... It means that they treat him as a means to an end ...

So, the Republicans have been willing to bring disgrace to the Office of the Presidency for tax cuts for the wealthy and Supreme Court picks?

How does that align with Republicans who always seem to try to paint themselves with Patriotism?

We've been operating with two different dictionaries for a long time now.

Republicans Congressional members are by and large cowards. They let Trump get away with treasonous and criminal behavior that puts the nation at risk out of fear they will get primaried. Every single GOP senator and most in the House need to be voted out for putting their wallets before the health of the country.

All you have to do is look back at the Koch Tea Partiers and all those candidates who were elected. Every one of them a nut job when they open their mouth. Now you have the QAnon crowd getting elected. Republicans keep proving there is a way to sink lower when you think they have hit bottom.

The reason is the base that came about with the Tea Party has shown they will oust even established elected officials in a primary if they don't 100% tow the line. The fervent are who have been voting in the primaries.

What can trump do to them?

The worst he can do is make them maybe lose their job.

So every republicans who isn't standing up to trump, is choosing to protect their own job instead of save their country and save hundreds of thousands of american lives. They're all sociopaths.

This is a great lesson in how people -- Republicans in this case -- can be complete -------- for years, while still thinking they maintain some kind of moral righteousness.

Leaving office in disgrace.

This is who conservatives are. Trump is the LEADER of the Republican party. He REPRESENTS the conservative movement. There were ELEVEN OTHER people running for the nomination, and conservatives decided that Trump was the BEST conservative they could find to represent their interests.

Whine and complain about how you don't like him all you want. But, he IS the definition of what a conservative is today. So, if you are a conservative who doesn't like what he is then maybe you should look in the mirror, because you look closely enough and you will find that you have Trump staring back at you.

Trump is just one person. We have 300 million people in this country. There are going to be lots of crappy ones at the ends of the bell curve. The problem with this country is not Trump. The problem with this country is that you have one of the two major ideologies (conservativism) that thinks HE is the person who best represents their ideals. Trump is not the problem. Him being representative of the ideals of 40% of the country is.
